Hi, this is not a new continual Rango fanfiction. The story plot is not finished yet. But I wanted to take the opportunity to upload the first chapter on the 12. anniversary of the Rango movie on 14th February. Possible that a new chapter comes in a few months, but I'm still not sure.
Title was inspired by the song "Legends Never Die" by Ft. Against the Current.
"You and the sheriff are more alike than you think. You're nothing but legends. Pretty soon no one will believe you even existed." – Mayor John.
1. Prolog
Water filled the air. Everywhere was water on the ground and on the clothes everyone. But nobody cared. Everyone in town was just happy about the returned water. While Rango and Beans looked after the vanishing rattlesnake with the turtle in his coils, Priscilla ran toward Rango and embraced him. "Rango! You brought back the water just like you promised." She hugged the sheriff tightly. "You really are a hero."
Rango chuckled, kneeling down to the little aye-aye child. "Well, the thing about heroes is, whenever you-"
Priscilla lifted her hand in a warning way. "Don't spoil it."
Rango stopped, sobered. "Right."
He stood up and took Beans by the hand. "Well, I don't know about you, but I could sure go for a dip."
It was dark. Just sparks of fire and ashes danced around him. The chameleon crawled on all fours. His mouth was dry. Just the tears in his eyes wet his lips.
He touched his leg. He could feel blood and pain. A bullet, he guessed.
"Yes, you are a legend," a voice said behind him, calm and cold, . "But even legends fade away one day."
The chameleon turned around in the dirty ground, looking at the black big figure not far away. The revolver was aimed at him.
"Soon nobody will talk about you anymore", the figure continued. "At the end, you'll only be someone who briefly turned on the faucet of a tiny, insignificant town in the middle of nowhere."
He heard an ominous click, echoing through his ears in the thinning air around him, followed closely by an ominous laugh.
"For the last hero, the last bullet - how fitting."
He closed his eyes.
