A/N: I hope you like it :)
Shinichi watched the young woman next to him with a smile on his face. They had been back to their true selves for over half a year now and slowly he got used to the normality of his old life. Then again it wasn't completely his old life that he had gone back to. There was a new and important addition to his teenage life. When he had been Conan there had been a partner by his side and now as Shinichi he had a partner as well. If anything good had come out of the confrontation with the Black Organization it was that he had met Haibara Ai or now Miyano Shiho. Since they had changed back to their true selves Shiho had stayed by his side as his partner and even went to his school. They had become even closer and slowly he had begun to realize that he was falling for her.
It felt natural to be around her and the more time he spent with her the stronger he fell for her. His day always began with her when he went over to the professor's house to walk with her to school and his day ended with a dinner with her and Agasa before he went to his own house. Between that there might be a case more often than not, but even then she was by his side. Even their weekends they spent mostly together, just like they were doing at the moment.
It was Saturday afternoon and they were about to enter the shopping mall. Shiho wanted to look at the new collections and Shinichi had decided to come with her. He didn't enjoy shopping, but then again he had promised Shiho to go with her in exchange for the analyze for a case that had taken her almost all night on a school day. It was a fair agreement and it wasn't really a punishment for him anyway.
When Shinichi almost ran into Shiho, because she had suddenly stopped in front of a shop window, he was pulled out of his thoughts. Looking from his partner to the outfit in the display, that had caught her attention, he was a little bit confused.
"This isn't something you would usually go for."
Sure enough the outfit that Shiho seemed so intrigued by was a full on biker outfit for women. It was all black with red highlight throughout and Shinichi had never before seen Shiho be interested in that, let alone seen her wear something like it.
As if just remembering that he was there Shiho's answer took a moment and she didn't take her eyes away from the shop window.
"I just used to own such a set. It was perfect for riding my Harley."
"You had a Harley?" Shinichi asked surprised. There was still a lot that he didn't know about her, but he always listened closely when she shared little details about herself.
"It was my small piece of freedom. The feeling of driving my motorcycle was the only moment when I could feel free. It was an illusion of course, but it was my sad attempt at feeling a little bit as if my life belonged to me."
After the fall of the Black Organization Shiho sometimes told him about her time there and Shinichi felt always honored when she did. It was surely not easy for her to talk about it, so Shinichi comforted her when these moments happened. This time wasn't any different and he stepped closer to her and gently took a hold of her hand and intertwined their fingers.
"You're free now." He softly whispered.
For a moment they just stood there together, her eyes still on the outfit and his fully attention on the far away look in her eyes.
"I'm still getting used to it." Her voice was just as soft as his had been before her eyes left the shop window and she pulled her hand out of his. "Let's go to the Fusae shop. With you here the next case is just around the corner and I want to at least get my bag before that happens."
With that she walked into the direction of the shop. Shinichi sighed and followed her. He would have liked for their moment to last longer and her hand had felt so right in his. Since realizing his feelings for her, he had tried to show her that he cared about her in that way, but so far nothing had changed between them. Maybe it was time to tell her and sending on last glance at the biker outfit maybe he had an idea for the perfect setting.
Later that day when Shiho had gotten her new bag and he a new case, because of course she had been right, they arrived home. While Shiho prepared dinner Shinichi excused himself to make an important call. The first step to his plan had to be set into motion.
Exactly a week later Shinichi was nervously waiting for Shiho by his front door. Everything was prepared and he hoped that at the end of the day he could finally tell her how he felt. The keys in his hand weighted suddenly more when he saw her approaching him.
"Don't tell me you already ran into another case." Was her greeting.
"For once not." He smiled at her. "I have a surprise for you. Come with me."
Shinichi lead her to the open garage and watched content how her eyes widened at the Harley that stood there.
"When you told me that you used to own a Harley I thought that maybe you would like to ride one again. I rented it for the weekend."
Still speechless Shiho approached the bike and almost lovingly touched the motorcycle. Shinichi watched her with a soft look in his eyes. So there was something else other than animals that Shiho was fond of.
"You even got me an outfit for it. Is that the one from the mall?" She asked after a moment of admiring the Harley while she gently picked up the clothes from the seat of the motorcycle.
"Yes, it got your attention and knowing your taste I thought you would like it. My mom helped me guess which sizes you need, so blame her if it doesn't fit."
"At least you didn't go through my closet for my sizes like the noisy detective that you are." She smirked at him but it was more a smile than she would like to admit. "I'll try it on." With that she entered his house and left him in the garage.
Despite her slight insult Shinichi smiled. No matter how much she had tried to hide it, Shinichi had noticed how excited she was to ride a Harley again. Sure enough it didn't take long for her to come back, now fully dressed in the outfit that he had bought for her. It fit her perfectly and she looked confident. There was something about her in this outfit that gave Shinichi another glance at the mystery that was Miyano Shiho.
With a fond look in her eyes Shiho walked over to the Harley and put on her helmet.
"You trust me enough to drive with me?" She smirked at him with a raised eyebrow and sat down on the motorcycle.
"I trust you with my life." He smiled at her while he put on his helmet and took his seat behind her.
For a moment he saw the blush that was staining her cheeks at his words before her helmet blocked his view of her. He had just enough time to take a hold of her waist before they speed off. At first Shinichi kept his eyes close, because Shiho wasn't exactly obeying the speed limit. However he had meant it when he had said that he trusted her with his life, so after a second of hesitation he opened his eyes and watched the scenery fly by. Shiho had been right, it felt freeing and he slowly relaxed.
Shinichi didn't know how long they had driven when the scenery changed. The sun was slowly setting and the busy city had changed to the outskirts. When they finally stopped Shinichi noticed that they had arrived on a hill which was overlooking Beika. His legs felt a little unsteady when he got off the bike, but he tried to not let it show because he knew that behind her helmet Shiho must be smirking at him. However when she took off her helmet the look she gave him took his breath away.
The sun was setting behind her and gave her strawberry blond hair a faint glow, but that wasn't what made his heart race. It was the look in her eyes and the beautiful smile she gave him. Her eyes shone with such happiness and her expression was so unguarded that he found himself mesmerized by her.
"Thank you." Her voice was soft, but his heart heard her loudly. "I've never felt so free before."
In that moment his feelings got the best of him and all his thoughts about the speech that he had prepared and the right way to tell her that he loved her left him. His heart took matters in its own hands and he the final steps to hopefully a relationship with her. Closing the distance between them he softly kissed her.
When he pulled away after a few seconds he didn't know who was more shocked by his kiss, him or her. He hadn't planned the kiss. In that moment he had just let his feelings for her get the best of him and now that his heart had gotten what it wanted it left the mess it had left for his mind to solve. However no matter how good his mind functioned when it came to cases it was useless in this situation, so his next words were nowhere near his intended speech.
"I was going to tell you, but not like this." His blush was taking over his face by now and that Shiho was looking at him with a surprised expression on her face wasn't helping his nervousness. "You just looked so beautiful in that moment. Not that you don't look beautiful normally. I'm messing this up, aren't I?"
"It's not a classic confession, but keep going and we'll see." There was a small smile on her lips and Shinichi could see a light blush on her cheeks.
Encouraged by her words and the fact that she wasn't running away or making fun of him, he gently took her hands in his and met her eyes with determination.
"What I'm trying to say is that I'm in love with you, Shiho."
She didn't reciprocate with words, but the beautiful smile on her lips and the kiss he received from her were proof enough for the detective to know the truth about her feelings for him.
A/N: Happy Valentine's Day :)
