Author's note at the end;

"JANIEE! JANIEEE WAKE UP!" Angela yelled from the bottom of the stairs. It's a typical Monday morning at the Rizzoli household. Angela is downstairs in the kitchen getting breakfast ready for her three fast growing kids. While Frank her husband is reading the morning paper on the couch drinking his coffee. Jane bolted out of bed and ran straight to the bathroom. Thanking her lucky stars her brothers had yet to hog up the bathroom. She locked the door and jumped right into the shower. Even though she was able to get the best warm shower of the morning it was cut short by her brother Frankie pounding on the door.

"Janie get out! It's my turn!" Frankie continued to shout as he banged and rested his forehead tiredly against the door. "Think fast!" she swung the door open with no warning causing her younger brother to stumble forward into the small steamy bathroom. "Dude!" Frankie yelled in annoyance before slamming the door right in Jane's face. She just shook her head and hurried into her bedroom to get dressed. It's winter in Boston and it's freezing inside her compact family home. She quickly slipped on a pair of blue jeans and her white long john shirt, before running her fingers through her curly ruly hair and deciding she'd leave as so. Jane jumped down the stairs and right into the kitchen. "Morning Ma! Hey pops." She greeted her parents as she sat down at the kitchen island.

"Whoa, someone is eager to start their day." Angela pointed out as she served her eldest bunny shaped pancakes onto her plate. "Oh, yeah. Do you remember Emma? The girl I met at the dance two weeks ago?" Jane said quickly, grabbing some bacon pieces that were on the platter in front of her. "Mhm, what about her?" Angela asked while she continued to make two more plates for Jane's brothers. "She called me last night, she got a new home placement. You know the Nolan's that live a few blocks away from here?" Jane was talking loud enough so her father could hear too. Excited about the news she was sharing she wanted both her parents to be part of the conversation. "Oh yeah, the husband is a cop. He comes to the cafe in the mornings. He does a lot of night shifts." Angela started to babble, but Jane quickly got a hold of the conversation once again. "Yeah, anyway because she's with them now. She changed school districts. She's coming to my high school. I'm excited to see her." Jane smiled and finally started to eat her food. "Janie, I'm excited for you." Angela expressed sweetly before yelling out for the boys.

"FRANKIE! TOMMY! GET YOU BUTTS INTO THE KITCHEN NOW" She walked over to the fridge and pulled out the orange juice.

"Agh, Angela. It's only seven in the morning, stop with all the damn yelling." Frank ridiculed as he finished his coffee and fixed his reading glasses. "Well you know what Frank, I wouldn't need to do all of this yelling if I had some freaking help in this house. But since I can't duplicate myself, I'll stick to the yelling." Angela bit back.

"Morning pops" Frankie said as he walked into the open space. "Hey kid." Frank greeted back before putting his focus back on the newspaper.

Frankie walked over to his mother to give her a goodmorning kiss on her cheek. Frankie was the most affectionate out of the three kids. Always has been. "Ma, you gotta stop with the bunny pancakes." Jane whined, as she aggressively cut off the ears to the bunny. "I don't care if you're about to be fifteen. You will still get your mothers famous bunny pancakes." Angela said, finally slowing down her pace and pouring herself a second cup of coffee. Tommy finally ran in, stuffing his face quickly. Angela rushed the three of them out the house kissing them all goodbye and all while reminding Jane to keep her brothers safe as she walked them to school.

The walk to her brothers middle school was only ten minutes away from her high school

Tommy is just starting out there. He's in the sixth grade and Jane is already begging him to stay out of trouble so their Mother wouldn't need to leave work early to go pick him up because he was suspended yet once again. Tommy just rolled his eyes, but still hugs his big sister goodbye before he runs to the basketball court. "Frankie please make sure he goes into the building okay?" Frankie nodded and hugged Jane. It's his last year here before he graduates and starts to attend the same school as his eldest sibling. He always lays low and never gets into trouble. But since Jane can't be in the same building to keep an eye on their trouble maker brother, she depended on him alot. "You know I always do." Frankie smiled before walking over to the court.

Jane took her time on her walk to school. Though it was cold outside and it was past time for her to get a new winter jacket she still enjoyed this quiet time to herself. It was always so loud at home, and she was always watching over brothers. Then school is always so loud, and it doesn't help that Jane made it onto the girls varsity basketball team. Yes, she's a freshman but she's already well known throughout her school. Everyone was always saying hi, this didn't bother Jane. Her charismatic attitude always came to her so naturally. But because of this she never found time for herself.

"Hey Jane over here!" The young italian shook her head out of her daze to search for the voice that was calling out for her. That someone happened to be her best friend Barry Frost, who was waving eagerly by the side of the school entrance steps. "Hey Frost" Jane dabbed him up and they both started to walk up the stairs. "dude , it's wicked cold out here, how do you not have your jacket zippered up?" Frost asked, while swinging open the doors. "Ah man, it's not that cold." Jane brushed him off. The truth was that her zipper had broken last week but she didn't have the heart to tell her mother. She didn't want Angela spending a big chunk of money on a brand new jacket, and she was tired of thrifting for used ones. She figured she'd just stick it out until the end of the winter season.

"Do you remember Emma? The girl I had met at the dance?" Jane asked, trying to change the subject as fast as she could.

"Oh yeah, that blonde chick with the mean girlfriend?" Frost answered and absent mindedly started to pull on the loose thread of his jacket.

"Yes, but you can't repeat what you said about her girlfriend."

"What why?" They walked through the already packed hallway of their high school. "Jane!" Both Frost and Jane turned around and there she was jogging up to meet up to them. "Emma!" Jane met her half way and high fived her. Frost trailed behind and waved. "Oh my god I'm so glad I already found you before classes started." Emma said out of breath. "This is Frost, my best friend." Jane introduced him and he smiled adjusting the straps of his book bag.

"Lemme see your schedule Em" the blonde pulled out the folded piece of paper from her jacket pocket. "Awesome, we have third period earth science together. Plus all three of us have the same sixth period lunch." Jane said excitedly as she squinted at the words on the program. "I smell a great trio forming ladies and gentlemen." she said as she put her arms around both of her friends.

Third period rolled around and Jane was racing some random junior boy down the hallway. Whoever touched the hallway doors and back first was the winner of five dollars. "On your mark, set, go!" Emma counted down and then the two bolted down the hallway. "Rizzoli! DeLuca! How many times have I yelled ``NO RUNNING!" Mrs. Garcia, their earth science teacher yelled as she simply watched them race past her classroom. Jane left him in the dust. "Eat that Mark! Gimme my five dollars !" Mark DeLuca just shook his head and tried to catch his breath. "Whatever Rizzoli, I'll win next time" He said as he reached into his back pocket for his wallet. "No no! There will be no next time guys." Mrs Garcia said while they walked into class.

"Wait wait, blondie, who are you?" She spotted Emma. "Oh C'mon Mrs Garcia, that's your first impression of the new student. Shame shame." Jane joked while she pulled out her chair to sit. The class laughed and the older woman smacked the back of Jane's head with her newspaper. "I'm Emma Swan, I just transferred here. It's my first day." Emma introduced herself and stood awkwardly in front of the class. "Alright Swan, welcome. It's your lucky day, the only available seat seems to be right next to Jane. Though that doesn't seem right according to my seating chart." Mrs Garcia looked up at Jane through the top of her glasses. The young italian just shrugged and Emma flopped down.

The science teacher went up to the white board and started to write. "Alright class, the holiday break is two weeks away. Then I won't be seeing you until the second of January. I say all this because with the science fair being in february you'll have enough time to create your science fair projects!" she clapped excitedly while the room full of teenagers sarcastically cheered. "Before anyone asks, yes you are allowed to either work solo or work with a partner."

Mrs Garcia quickly ended her lecture on the guidelines and her expectations for the science fair.

Then leaving the rest of the period for the class to begin to brainstorm and come up with ideas for their projects.

"Jane, are you busy after school?" Emma asked while she pulled out her phone to check the notification she had just received. "Uh, not really. I usually just meet up with my brothers before we walk to my ma's cafe." Jane replied as she absent mindedly rubbed her hands together. "Gina just texted me, asking if I could meet her at the mall after school. Maura is going to be with her, would you like to tag along." "Yeah, sure. Why not? Just gotta check with Ma." The school bell rang indicating the end of the third period. The class started to file out into the once again packed hallway while Mrs Garcia reminded everyone to be safe and to be on time to class tomorrow. "Alright Em, I'll catch you at lunch." The Italian nudged the blonde and they both went their separate ways.

It's the end of the school day and Jane is playing a quick game of basketball on the court, because the boys had asked if she could. But she had mostly joined to keep warm while she waited for Emma to come out the school, knowing that her new friend was going to take a little longer than usual because she needed to go to the school's library to check out her text books that she'd be needing to use for the rest of the school year. The game had ended rather quickly, giving the younger italian the opportunity to call her mother.

"Janie, what's the matter? Is everything okay? It's the evening switch at the station and it's getting packed here." Angela was talking so loud that Jane had to pull her phone away from her ear. "Everything is okay Ma, I was just really hoping I could get your permission to go to the mall with Emma. We're going to meet up with Regina and Maura." the teen had spoken so quickly she had said it all in one breath. Usually her mother was pretty strict with plans after school if it didn't concern her younger brothers. Angela always wanted the three to stay together when she was at work. "Yes, Janie, that's fine. Just make sure to tell Frankie. I don't want him and Tommy to be waiting around when they can get to the cafe faster." Jane silently cheered at the granted permission and responded. "Yes, I will Ma. Thank you."

"No problem baby, I love you gotta go."

"Love you bye." Jane ended the call with a big grin and looked up to see Emma standing right in front of her. "Cool, everything went well with your mom?"

"Yep, everything is all set." Jane quickly texted Frankie, before slipping her phone into her back pocket.

The girls were able to catch the bus while making their way to the mall. Both of them are grateful they wouldn't need to deal with the harsh December Boston weather. They conversed the whole 15 minute bus ride. Their conversation mostly revolved around what teachers were great and which weren't. Which lunch period was the best to skip class in, and overall all the spring sports that will be opening up their tryouts soon.

"Alright, I'm pretty sure they're on the second floor. The last text I had gotten from Gina was that they were heading into Nordstrom." Emma said while they walked into the mall. The pair had hopped onto the escalator, that's when the screaming started. "Wait, that sounded like-" Emma didn't have time to finish her sentence before the familiar voice screamed again. "LET GO OF ME!" They made it to the top and put a face to the voice. Another yell and both Emma and Jane pushed themselves through the crowded mall.

"Maura!" Regina yelled again, trying to push away from the boy that currently had his arms around her waist, obviously holding her back from something. The boy had lifted Regina off the ground and the short hair brunette started kicking and wiggling trying to get out of his grasp.

"Holy shit." Jane spat out, there was Maura being pinned up the vending machine by three girls.
