Hello everyone! I'm new to this fanfiction community and this is in fact my first ever fanfic. I hope y'all enjoy reading it! Please leave reviews, both good and bad comments are welcome! No hate please, though.
Diaclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. Everything recognisable belongs to J.K Rowling. Also, this story is inspired by the amazing fanfiction 'The Darkness Within', written by Kurinoone.
However, I have changed quite a lot of details and characters, so it's actually very different from the original work! Without further ado, please proceed and read!

Ch.1 The abduction
The wonderful sound of children's giggles could be heard in Godric's Hollow at all times. James and Lily couldn't contain the wide grins on their faces as they caressed their sons, Harry Potter and Liam Potter. Harry was 2 years old, while Liam was a year younger. The elder brother was a spitting image of James Potter, except his eyes. He had inherited his dad's messy raven hair and sharp cheekbones, along with his mother's big emerald green eyes. Liam, on the other hand, was a miniature version of his mother. His hair was dark red like Lily Potter's and he had his mom's almond-shaped face, but his eyes were hazel, just like James.
As the doorbell rang, James cautiously headed towards the door with his right hand tightly gripping his wand. Yes, a wand. You see, the Potter family was not an ordinary family. They were wizards and they could all do magic. They lived in a dangerous time when a dark wizard, namely Lord Voldemort, terrorised the entire wizarding world. Owing to a prophecy stating that only the Potter's children would be able to defeat the Dark Lord, Voldemort was adamant that he killed both of them as soon as possible. As a result, the Potters had gone into hiding, with their house protected by various protection wards, and, most importantly, the fidelius charm. Once set, the charm was unbreakable unless the secret keeper betrayed the house's inhabitants.
James waved his wand swiftly, all the while muttering a spell that would allow him to know who the person outside was. A few seconds later, a smile graced his face and he opened the door in a heartbeat. Sirius and Remus, as they called themselves the Marauders, entered the living room cheerfully. Lily let out a breath she didn't know she was holding and went to greet her friends too.
Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, along with Peter Pettigrew were James' best friends since school years. They even had nicknames for themselves. Sirius was Padfoot as his animagus form was a dog. Remus was Moony as he was a werewolf. Peter was Wormtail as he could transform into a rat. James was Prongs, since he could change into a stag. The Marauders had set countless pranks at Hogwarts and were still considered legends even then. They had annoyed Lily senseless, with Sirius always getting James into trouble. Of course, James wasn't innocent either, but seeing as James was her husband, Lily preferred to place the blame on Sirius.
The Marauders had only graduated for a few years, and were all working as aurors in the Ministry of Magic now. It was their job to fight dark wizards, while Lily taught potions in Hogwarts. James loved his job, now more than ever since he didn't want his sons to be responsible for the demise of Voldemort, as indicated by the wretched prophecy. He wanted to end the war before his children grew up. Yet, Voldemort was always a step ahead of the aurors and the war didn't look good to the light side.
Thanks to James, the marauders and Lily were now friends. Indeed, Lily considered all of them her brothers and loved them dearly, even though she would never admit it.
'Let me see my godsons!' Sirius chirped and raced towards Lily, hands outstretched to reach Harry in her arms.
'Shhh! I swear, if you wake him up, I'll skin you alive!' Lily admonished and threatened Sirius playfully. Sirius laughed and gently carried Harry.
' How long has he slept?' Sirius questioned Lily in a low voice while stroking Harry's hair, cuddling him lovingly.
'A little over an hour,' Lily replied, 'James and I want to go shopping for a while, could you and Remus take care of Harry and Liam when we are out?' She asked.
Remus strode over and nodded, all the while eyeing the sleeping Liam affectionately with nothing but fondness in his eyes. 'Where's Wormtail?' He enquired.
'I don't know, he hasn't arrived yet. He probably overslept.' James shrugged nonchalantly.
With a quick wave, James and Lily went out, leaving Remus and Sirius with their sleeping sons. The two friends talked quietly about work and waited for Peter to arrive.
Less than half an hour later, the sound of footsteps softly echoed in Godric's Hollow. Sitting on the floor with two infants cradling on their laps in the playroom, the two marauders knew that something was wrong. Lily and James shouldn't be back yet, and no one else was in the house other than themselves and the two kids.
Instantly on alert, Sirius motioned Remus to place Harry and Liam into their respective cot upstairs. Remus nodded and proceeded upstairs warily. Normally, Remus wouldn't take orders from anyone. Yet, since this was about the lives of his best friends' sons, he wasn't going to take any chances.
Waiting apprehensively, Sirius hid behind the door with his wand raised. Should anyone enter the room, he would not hesitate to curse them.
'Leave, when you still can.' A high, cruel voice hissed. Sirius' insides froze. It couldn't be…him, could it? Shoulders tensed, he stepped away from the door and the sight took his breath away. Standing in the doorway was none other than Lord Voldemort himself. He was a tall, long haired handsome man with an extreme amount of confidence hovering around him. The only thing that showed the true monster underneath was the pair of ruthless, scarlet eyes. They were so cold that a glance of them sent shivers down Sirius' spine.
Red eyes gleaming, Voldemort smirked. ' I do not wish to repeat myself, but seeing as you are a pureblood wizard, I'll give you one more chance. Step aside if you want to live!' He spoke, voice laced with venom.
Sirius held his wand up and gritted his teeth. He knew that he was going to die, but he wouldn't give his godsons up without a fight. 'No! I won't let you hurt them!' Sirius snarled.
'Very well.' Voldemort mused. Shaking his head, he muttered 'Gryffindors! Always so brave….and foolish.' under his breath and pointed his wand at the incredibly handsome, dark haired young man in front of him.
'Incarcarous!' Voldemort cried maliciously. Instantly, Sirius yelled, 'Protego!' and a shield erected in front of him. Yet, Voldemort's spell was stronger and broke through his shield with a crack. Immediately, ropes appeared out of thin air and Sirius was tied up. Without sparing Sirius a chance to free himself, he shouted 'Crucio!'. Sirius screamed as his insides boiled and his skin burned with excruciating pain. His eyes rolled to the back of his head and passed out within seconds.
Voldemort stepped past Sirius' body without so much as a glance and walked upstairs. With a wave of his hand, the surprised Remus went flying towards the wall and dropped like a rag doll with a sickening crunch.
Voldemort walked towards the cots in long strides and took in every detail of the two young Potters. He hated children wholeheartedly. He hadn't quite forgotten how other children teased and taunted him years ago in the orphanage he grew up in.
''So, you two are the chosen ones, prophesied to defeat me. Well, I don't see how you can do that, seeing as I'm going to kill you before you can even walk.' Voldemort mocked. He raised his wand once again and pointed it at the slightly older baby. He must be Harry Potter, as indicated by the plaque at the side of his cot. Voldemort could sense power radiating off both the young boys. These boys were talented, especially the older one. Oh yes, very much so. 'It's such a waste to kill them.' He thought. But Harry and Liam had to die, in order to ensure his safety. If they come of age, Harry may even grow to have power to rival him and Liam wouldn't be far off as well.
Just as the killing curse was at the tip of his tongue, Harry opened his eyes and his bright emerald gaze fell on Voldemort. He grinned and waved his hands innocently, as though he was happy to meet Voldemort. Voldemort swallowed the 'Avada Kedavra' he was about to say and stared at Harry curiously. A thought had struck his mind. What if… what if he raised the boys up and trained them to be his personal assassins? As long as they were loyal to Voldemort, they would never harm him. They could even be of great help to defeating the annoying Dumbledore!
The corners of Voldemort's mouth lifted as the brilliant plan formed in his mind. He wandlessly levitated Harry and Liam and walked out of Godric's Hollow. With a soft 'pop', they apparated to an impressive castle miles away — Riddle Manor.

'No!' James screamed and thrashed in his bed. Lily was shaking him frantically and trying to wake him up from his usual nightmare. Tears slid down her cheeks, as she knew all too well what her husband was dreaming of. Their son's abduction 15 years ago was recorded by a surveillance orb in the room, and the terrifying footage had been tormenting the poor parents in their dreams regularly ever since. With a jolt, James' eyes snapped open and he sat up so quickly that Lily let out a yelp. He looked around in confusion, disoriented. Lily immediately moved to his side and hugged him.
'James! It's just a dream. It's ok. Everything is fine…' Lily whispered gently, all the while rubbing small circles on James' back.
'Harry… Liam…' James rasped, voice still hoarse from all the screaming.
Lily closed her green eyes, tears streaming down rapidly. 'They're gone, James. Our boys are gone.' She choked out, grimacing as if in pain. The couple sat in silence all night, seeking comfort from each other.
It had been 15 years since their sons, Harry and Liam Potter, were killed by Lord Voldemort, the darkest wizard alive. Lord Voldemort had tortured the Potters' fellow marauder and secret keeper, Peter Pettigrew, with the cruciatus curse and forced their location out of his mouth. Peter only just recovered from the trauma a few years ago.
Well, in truth, Harry and Liam were kidnapped. But it was clear that Voldemort had come with all intentions to kill them. Why he didn't kill them on sight and left Godric's Hollow instead, no one knew. Most speculated that the dark lord had brought them away to torture them, before taking their lives. Anyway, there was just no chance for the two young boys to survive. What James and Lily did not know, was that Lord Voldemort had changed his plans.
Lord Voldemort did not kill Harry and Liam Potter. He had marked Harry as his heir, and Liam as his second son. They were now called Harry Marvolo and Liam Marvolo, also known as — the dark princes.
