"Can I take it off yet?" I ask with curiously. Thank goodness Adrien is holding my hand, otherwise I'm sure I would have crashed into a tree by now. I may be graceful when I wear the suit, but as Marinette that's a whole different story. However, I can feel that the bright sun I felt on my face just a few minutes ago has been replaced with cool shade. "Just a few more steps, love," Adrien whispers. Step by careful step he leads me, but I trust him blindly, feeling a small pang as Cat said that to me awhile back on one of our missions.
"And open your eyes," Adrien says, lips at my ear and I slowly open them. We're behind the mansion, the thick trees giving us dapple shade, the sun playing peek-a-boo among the branches. "Happy Valentine's Day, love," Adrien whispers, and I look around with wonder.
A small table that holds some pretty cakes and sandwiches, a teapot and a beautiful bouquet of roses are set for two, plus there's a heart box of chocolates right in front of me. But the most important thing that stands out to me is the statue of Adrien's mother. Even in stone, she looks serene and beautiful, and I can see why Adrien loved her so much. "And here I thought all you did was play video games on that state of the art TV you have," I turn and give him a hug. "Little did I know you were such a romantic."
I nestled my head into Adrien's chest, and he puts his arms around me. Suddenly, tears spring to my eyes as realize how much Adrien loves me, even if he doesn't he helped me on one of the darkest days of my life when the Miraculous got stolen. He didn't see me detransform, but in that moment? I think I would have let him see me as I truly am.
"I love you," I stare up into his warm green eyes that are fill of love. "I love you too. As for being a romantic, I got the idea when we last read to each other." I step back, a playful grin on my face. "No, I'm sticking with my theory. And by the way, we read Owl Moon."
We sit down and begin to eat. "Lemonade?" Adrien pours me a glass from the pitcher I thought was tea. My eyes widen as I take a sip, the refreshing drink has a bit of kick to it. "That's no ordinary lemonade," I say, reaching for a sandwich. Adrien pouts, and I start to giggle at how cute he looks. "Leo helped me make the lemonade." "That explains it. Leo loves romance. He tried to hide the book he was reading the other day." "Hey, us men have our secrets just like you girls do."
I start to think of me catching Cat washing himself in my room, and I had no idea he did that. "So, what do you do after dark?" I lean forward. Adrien's eyes darken. "Think about you." My cheeks heat. "Guilty."
Our banter is light and playful and when it comes to dessert, Adrien feeds me a chocolate heart-shape cake. I kiss his lips, happy on this perfect day, the day for lovers and flowers.
