"Donk?"
"Yes...?"
"What's a soulmate?"
Robert Crawley looks at his eldest grandson in surprise as they wash the dinner dishes together. He never thought that a question like this would be asked by them...ever.
"Where did you learn that word?" he then inquired the little boy.
"Well...Mummy always told me that she and Daddy are soulmates." George replied politely "But when I ask about it, Mummy didn't want to tell me."
"Why did your Mummy not tell you?"
"Because I need to sleep early last night because we're going to stay with you and Granny."
Robert chuckles softly, and shakes his head a little "Sounds about right."
"But Donk, can please tell me what's a soulmate?" George then looks up at him "Pretty please?"
Robert chuckles again, and looks back at him "Well, a soulmate is...like a best friend, but more." he replied, "It's the one person in the world that knows you better than anyone else."
"Oh..." George said, still looking up at him in awe.
Robert nods in agreement "It's someone who...makes you a better person." he then paused for a bit, then continued "Actually they don't make you a better person, you do that yourself...because they inspire you. A soulmate is someone who you can carry with you forever. It's the one person who knew you, who accepted you, and who believes in you before anyone else did...or when no one else would. And no matter what happens, you'll always love them. And nothing can ever change that."
"So that means...Granny is your soulmate?"
Robert smiles sweetly "Yes. Yes, Granny is my soulmate."
"Will I find my soulmate one day, Donk?"
"I'm sure you will, Georgie. One day...you will find your soulmate."
George laughs adorably, to which his grandfather laughs along with and kisses the top of his little head.
"Robert? Georgie?" a voice then came from upstairs. The boys then turned around, and saw Cora heading down the stairs towards them.
"Ah! Just in time." Robert smiled lovingly at her "George and I just finished washing the dishes."
Cora smiles back at him, and kisses his cheek "Good. Because now I can put this growing boy to this bed." she then said.
"Granny, is Donk your soulmate?" George then asked, making Cora the one who's surprised this time.
"Why did you ask?"
"Because Donk said that you are his soulmate."
"Does he really?" Cora teased and looked at her husband, who was now grinning as he dries his hands
"Yeah!"
"Well, I can definitely say that he is my soulmate too." she then answered as she helped the little boy down the stool "He may be forgetful...and clumsy...and such a donk, in the end, I still love him. Very much."
Robert blushes, and smiles back at them "I love you too, dearest."
"Are going up with us now?" she then inquired, hiding the blush on her face as well.
"No. I still have to clean the living room." he replied, "There's still a lot of toys around."
She then laughs softly and kisses him, startling him a bit. He then eventually held her close and kisses her back.
"EWWWWWWW!" George squealed, looking away and covered his eyes.
His grandparents slowly pulled away and laughed lightly as they saw him. Cora then carried the little boy in her arms.
"Say good night to Donk now, Georgie." she then said.
"Good night, Donk." the little boy said, before letting out a big yawn and making them chuckle.
"Good night, George." Robert gently rubs her back, and kisses his forehead.
"See you in a few minutes?" his wife then said.
"See you in a few minutes." he replied, smiling sweetly.
As of them head upstairs, Robert smiled to himself. He really did find the one.
His best friend.
His wife.
His soulmate.
