"Cat, for the last time, this isn't catnip! Its a sachet!" Marinette had to hold the heart shaped sachet high above her head so Cat couldn't grab it. He plopped down on his rump, looking disappointed. "You mean the bag is filled with weeds?" "No, it makes your clothes and pillows smell nice for a long time. And besides, its not a catnip day, its Valentine's Day!"
Cat watched Marinette set the sachet somewhere couldn't reach as she walked over to the mirror. "So, who's it for anyway?" He asked, crossing his arms. Marinette started applying makeup while talking to his reflection. "Adrien Agreste. You know I have a date with him in less an hour."
Wait, if she was going on a date with Adrien, and he was Adrien under the mask, then he was about to get a heart-shaped smelling pillow. And he should leave before he was late, and she got suspicious. "Well, I'll leave to let you get ready for your date, Princess." Cat grinned, scrambling up the ladder to leave via the balcony.
"Don't go looking for catnip, or I'll tell Ladybug!" she called after him. Her words fell on deaf ears, and she sighed as she pulled off her jeans and sweater and slipped the dress she designed over head.
She rested her forehead against the cool glass of the mirror. Please like the dress Adrien. I hope he says I look pretty.
It was a red dress, appliqued with little white hearts over it. It was a spaghetti strap dress, and Marinette covered her bare arms with a shawl her mother had bought her last week.
"Well, Nikki, what do you think?" Marinette asked, spinning around. "Ooh, Adrien won't be able to take his eyes off you, Marinette." Marinette cuddled her Swami close. "Let's hope so, Nikki."
Marinette scurried over to her sewing desk when she heard her phone vibrating on her desk. Her heart dropped a little when she saw it was Adrien. With Nikki giving her a encouraging smile, she picked up.
"Hey, Adrien, we still on for tonight?" "Yeah, but I'm going to need an extra hour. Piano lessons and all that," he said. Marinette frowned into the phone. It wasn't like she didn't believe him, but why did he sound so out of breath? Oh, well. "Yeah, sounds good. Love you."
"Well, this perfect, Nikki," Marinette said, pulling out her desk chair and grabbing some red felt and her supplies. "Then I'll have just a enough time to make a gift for Cat." Nikki watched as Marinette got out the small bag of catnip.
"I thought you said he wasn't allowed any catnip, Marinette," Nikki asked. "I've given it some thought. He's been pretty good lately, and it might change his mind about sachets!"
With Marinette's sewing skills, she got the sachet done just as she needed to rush out the door. Stuffing it in her purse, she walked quickly to Leo's.
"And what will the lady be having this evening?" Adrien asked, as he held Marinette's hand. "Um, one of your heart shaped pink cakes and a dish of strawberry ice cream." She licked her lips as her eyes followed her cone. It had been a busy designing day, and she was hungry.
Adrien pulled her close. "You love your sweets, don't you?" "No one could be sweeter then you," she murmured, turning slightly and cuddling into his chest.
Taking a seat at one of the booths, Adrien shared Marinette's ice cream before sliding her a little box. "I hope you like it," he said, blushing.
Marinette carefully unfurled the ribbon, hoping to wear it to school soon. She lifted the lid. "Oh, its beautiful!" Adrien had made her a charm bracelet, with a red rose and a heart. "I made it in art the other day," Adrien told her. "Sneaky, the one class we don't have together this semester." "Well, in this case it was a good thing, otherwise you would have peeked!" Adrien took her wrist. "May I fasten it on?" Marinette nodded, goosebumps rising to her skin as Adrien's fingers brushed hers. "I have a gift for you too." She dug the one she made her for Cat out by accident, quickly stuffing it back into bag. "Sorry, that's for another friend."
"What is it?" Adrien asked, smelling the sachet. "It makes your clothes smell nice, even though that's already true," she blurted, then clapped a hand to her mouth. "Thank you, Marinette. Every time I look at it, I'll think of you."
A light drizzle had started up by the time they left Leo's and Marinette pulled her shawl tighter around her shoulders. She walked quickly, her heart pumping in her chest. She wasn't scared per se, but she didn't like being out here alone, after dark.
A dark shape leaped in front of her, and Marinette squeaked in fright. "Cat!" she choked, heart still pounding in her chest. "I'm sorry, Princess. Here, let me walk you home."Cat took her hand, leading her through the storm-darkened streets, stopping under the warm lights of the bakery. "Thanks, Kitty."
Cat pulled Marinette into a hug, and she clung to him tightly. "Oh! I have a gift for you in my bag!" "A gift? For me?" Cat's eyes glowed green. "A Valentine's Day gift. Its like the sachet I made Adrien, but this one has catnip."
Cat swung her around. "Oh, Princess! I'll try not to go to crazy!" Cat kissed her wet cheek, the bounded off into the night.
When Adrien got home, he put the catnip one with Plagg's special reserve cheese. When he went to bed that night, he hugged the sweet smelling pillow to his chest. Ah, life was sweet even if it wasn't chocolate!
