It's Valentine's Day, and while I normally don't do seasonal specials, this will be an exception.

Now, I'm no expert when it comes to writing romances, but I will do my best.
There may also be some more... intimate scenes in later chapters.
This story will be taking place shortly after Fairytale of New York, by my dear friend Bloodrayne666, let's see just how Mikey's first real Valentine's day will be.

Shout out to Bloodrayne666 and Mergingemperor for their suggestions.

Mikey's Valentine

Chapter 1

It was early February, and with the sun having set over the city of Chicago and many people ending their day, for some the day had just begun.

Below the surface, in the hidden sanctuary of Mutopia, its inhabitants were waking up and preparing for their nocturnal day ahead of them.

One such resident was the Viper mutant, Kate. Having just gotten dressed and quickly brushed through her light brown hair, she gave herself a quick look in the mirror before grabbing a glass of water and a tiny pill from a small carton in her night-stand, swallowing both quickly.

There was a knock on the door.

"Yeah?" she answered.

"It's me, Kate." she heard the familiar voice of Michelangelo, the mutant turtle of the Hamato clan from New York, and her lovely boyfriend for the last two months.

Normally a hard as nails girl, Kate smiled softly when she heard his voice. Having gone through many really bad relationships in her previous life as a human, she had shut her heart and become what people would call a bitch.

But, after meeting Michelangelo, his goofy and happy personality had caused her to fall in love with the turtle, and after a few years, and quite the adventure, she had confessed to him, finally showing her softer side again after all those years.

Still, it took some more years before the two were both ready to enter into a proper relationship, even though they clearly enjoyed each other's company. And now, two months later, despite living quite the distance from each other, their love was as strong as they were.

"You ready for some breakfast?" the orange-masked turtle asked through the door, snapping Kate out of her thoughts.

"Sure, just a second, hun." the viper replied.

As she exited her room, she found her gaze upon the smiling turtle.

"Hey, gorgeous. Slept well?" Michelangelo asked, the two hugging and sharing a kiss.

"Just fine, thanks."

"Cool. Hope you're hungry, 'cause unless my nose is lying, there's waffles to be had."

"You do have one hell of a sweet tooth." Kate giggled, as the couple walked towards the mess hall, holding hands all the way.

It was just the night before that Michelangelo and his family had arrived to stay a week together with their dear friends of Mutopia, taking a well deserved vacation from their many duties and burdens in New York, being able to interact with other mutants just like normal humans would, something that the Hamato clan had been unable to on such a scale before.

Always welcomed in the secret sanctuary, the two clans always looked forward to these meetings, and this time was no exception.

Joining the rest of the settlement, Michelangelo and Kate soon sat down together with their closest friends, namely the active crime fighters.

"Been too long since I've had waffles." said Sharky the shark, rubbing his hands together and licking his lips in anticipation.

"I can imagine." said Monalisa the lizard, knowing that with the shark being a vegetarian, and Mutopia not having the same options as the city above, certain alternatives were a rare commodity. "Making vegan waffles is not that hard, but for you to get the necessary ingredients here in Mutopia, that's quite a bit harder."

"Some times we get lucky." said the gecko, Sephie, before offering the shark a bottle. "Care for some syrup, Sharky?"

"Don't mind if I do. Thanks."

"It's nice to be able to treat oneself once in a while." said Leonardo the turtle, taking a quick look around, seeing that everyone had at least two waffles each in addition to the rest of the breakfast buffet.

A few, however, had taken several more waffles, including the self proclaimed master mechanic, Rattletrap, who had quite the tower of waffles. The rat had tried to take even more, but Louie and Tyroth had both stopped him.

"So, what's the plan for today, guys?" Heather the dragonfly asked.

"After this breakfast, I'm thinking a few lazy hours before we Knights and Ninja head out on our first patrol." said Tyroth the dragon. "After that, we'll have lunch, followed by some training and a second patrol before dinner. Should be able to squeeze in some other stuff here and there as well."

"Sounds good to me." said Sarah. "If anyone feels up for it after dinner, I'm thinking of hosting a movie night in the movie room. Got a few flicks that I've been itching to watch lately."

"That sounds fun." said Kate, who then looked at Michelangelo. "What do you say?"

"I'm in if you are." the orange-masked turtle replied.

The majority of the day passed without incidents. During the patrols, the crime fighters stopped several criminals all over Chicago, ranging from purse snatchers to burglars.

For the patrol following lunch, Michelangelo and Percy had been teamed up, much to the annoyance of both the turtle and his viper girlfriend. But they were not the only ones, as the other couples had also been split up for this outing, so it was a little more fair.

It wasn't all bad though, Michelangelo and Percy had a similar sense, and style, of humour, so they got along very well.

Having stopped for a rest, the two mutant pranksters sat down on the edge of one of the smaller tall buildings, looking out over the city as they shared stories about the pranks they had pulled in the past, and the punishments they had gotten because of them.

"I'm telling you, dude. I thought was so smart setting up that catapult with water balloons in the bathroom for Raph, and then Sephie is the one to trigger it instead." said Michelangelo. "The mental torture and horror she put me through was among the worst things ever, and then they have master Splinter rig a water bucket on my door. Master Splinter or all people!"

"Ha! That's hilarious!" the grasshopper laughed. "That almost beats when I snuck a plastic eyeball into Kate's soup, and I had to scrub the floor of the entire village for that. Twice!"

"I'm glad I haven't had to do that. Mutopia is huge!" Michelangelo stretched his arms out for emphasis. "By the way, why do you pick so much on Kate? I mean, I sorta get it. It's so fun when irritable people get all irritated like that, I should know, having tormented Raph for years. But you have so many others to play pranks on too, yet it seems to only be Kate you target. Why?"

"Well, like you said, it's fun, and I like having fun."

"Fair point."

"But also, you've seen how uptight and serious she is. Far too serious for my taste. So, I try to make her smile a bit more, but she doesn't really see the funny side of it."

"You're not… you know, interested in her, right?" Michelangelo asked hesitantly, though he seriously doubted the very idea.

"No way! I'm not one for being tied down, especially not in a relationship, and never with someone like her. No offence."

"None taken. I think. But do you think you could lay off pranking her, at least a bit? She is my girlfriend now, and I have to look out for her, you know."

"I hear you, but I won't make any promises I can't keep."

"I guess that's fair enough. Not sure I would have either." the turtle mused. "Maybe we should get going again, otherwise someone's gonna get scolded."

"Yeah, probably me." Percy said as he got back on his feet, quickly checking his shell-cell. "Huh, would you look at that. It's just past midnight."

"Yeah, so?"

"That means that it's February the 14th now. You do know what day that is, right?"

"Sure, it's Valentine's Day." Michelangelo stated proudly, then his face fell as the realisation struck him. "Oh shell! Boyfriends give their girlfriends gifts on Valentine's! And I haven't even thought of it! I am so screwed!"

"Whoa! Calm down, mate!" Percy said, grabbing Michelangelo's shoulders to hold him still. "We can still salvage this. Let's just stop and think for a moment."

"You're right." Michelangelo took a few deep breaths and calmed down. "Raph does this sort of thing all the time, and if he can, then so can I."

"That's the spirit! So how does your brother do it?"

"Well, some times he asks our human friends for help, but that won't work this late in the night. But, most of the time, he breaks into shops, takes what he wants and leave money in its place."

"Some late night shopping it is then. And you're in luck, there's a small convenience store just below us."

The duo looked down into the alleyway, and just like Percy had said, there was a corner-shop. It was obviously closed at this time of night, but that wouldn't stop Michelangelo.

And neither, it seemed, would it stop the darkly dressed woman kneeling by the side-door, trying to pick the lock.

"You think that chick got the same idea?" Michelangelo asked, narrowing his eyes.

"Hardly." Percy scoffed. "Do you want her, or can I have her?"

"I got this. Watch my shell."

Quickly and silently, Michelangelo jumped down, bouncing between the two buildings to slow his descent into the alley.

While the burglar constantly looked around to make sure she stayed undetected, she never once looked up. Her attention was also drawn elsewhere as a click was hear from the door.

"Gotcha!" she whispered in triumph.

"Gotcha!" someone whispered in her ear, causing her to break into a cold sweat, only to receive a quick blow to the back of the head and collapse against the door.

"I'm starting to see what's so fun about that." Michelangelo mused, thinking back on all the times he had been hit on the back of his head, mostly by his brothers.

As he was thinking that, the door slid inwards, the weight of the burglar pushing it open.

"Why, thank you. Don't mind if I do." Michelangelo said, doing an exaggerated bow before swiping some money from the burglar's wallet. "Let that be a lesson. Crime doesn't pay."

With the bills in hand, he quickly hurried into the shop, keeping his eyes peeled for any cameras, as well as a suitable gift for Kate.

While he did that, however, the burglar recovered, and seeing the turtle looking around the shop, she thought that he was a rival thief, and she wasn't about to let him get away with that. Getting back on her feet, she pulled a knife from her belt.

"No you don't!" Percy said as he jumped down and intercepted the burglar, kicking her in the back hard enough to knock her onto the floor again, but not without knocking down a whole shelf of things, causing quite the ruckus.

And that ruckus was heard by the owner upstairs.

"What was that?!" a gruff male voice shouted from the floor above.

"Uh-oh!" Michelangelo gulped.

"Whoops! Time to split, man!" Percy yelped and hurried back out the door.

Michelangelo wasn't far behind, but not before quickly grabbing a heart-shaped box of chocolates and leaving all the money behind.

"'Scuse me!" he said as he shoved the still recovering thief out of the way, closing the door behind him, at which point the lock clicked back into place again.

"Oh come on! Not fair!" the female burglar complained.

"You! Who are you?! And what are you doing in my shop?!" the gruff voice was heard, as a very large and muscular man came down the stairs, hunting rifle in hand.

"So not fair…" the woman muttered, raising her hands and standing completely still.

A short while later, and a few blocks away, Michelangelo and Percy finally stopped to catch their breath.

"Phew! That was a rush, now wasn't it?" Percy said, leaning on his knees.

"Totally!" Michelangelo agreed. "At least it all worked out well. That thieving chick got caught, we didn't, and I got some sweets for my sweet."

"Rein in the sweet-talking, or I'm gonna get sugar poisoning."

"You're just jealous." Michelangelo teased, but the grasshopper only shrugged. "I hope she'll like them."

"You know what, me too. Especially with how they were a complete…. Steal!"

The two mutants laughed for a while before heading back to meet up with the others, and Michelangelo had butterflies in his stomach for what was to come.

So it begins, and as expected Mikey was not ready for it, and who can blame him. Never having to really think about Valentine's Day, only to suddenly have someone to celebrate it with, you're bound to be caught off guard.

There are a couple of references to Bloodrayne666's Fairytale of New York and my own Mikey's Date, as Mikey and Kate's relationship started to develop during those stories.

See you next chapter.
