Valentine's Day In Sugar Rush
I wanted to write something romantic and a Tumblr prompt that said, "They were out of roses, so I got you tulips. Because I love your two lips," reminded me of my awesome friend J-Farraday's Turbo/Candice pairing, so I just had to write this! I hope you like it, July!
...
It was February 14th, and Candice Von Schweetz opened her eyes with a smile, sitting up in bed. Ever since she and Turbo had become a couple and he had told her about a special Earth holiday called Valentine's Day, she had been eager to celebrate it with him and Vanellope.
Turbo wasn't in bed with her, but the sweet smell of pancakes coming from the kitchen told her exactly where he was. She got up and quickly got dressed, grabbing the pretty gift bags she had put Turbo and Vanellope's presents in and heading out of the bedroom.
Turbo, as she expected, was in the kitchen with Vanellope, plates of freshly made heart shaped pancakes on the counter, which he was topping with pink colored whipped cream. He carefully squirted the cream along the very edges of one of the pancakes before turning to Vanellope with a smile. "What do you think Mommy would like best on her pancake? A chocolate heart or a cotton candy flower?" he asked. Vanellope giggled and pointed to the cotton candy flower and Turbo grinned. "Good choice!" He placed the flower in the very center of the pancake, sticking it on with just a bit of whipped cream before grabbing another pancake and lining it with whipped cream. "And would you like a flower like Mommy too?" Little Vanellope bounced happily, which he took as a yes, putting another flower on her pancake with the same care he did Candice's. "Now let's go get Mommy."
"She's right here," Candice said in amusement from the doorway. Turbo jumped and turned, blushing. She grinned and came over, giving him a quick kiss. "Sorry I kind of spoiled your surprise."
"It's fine," Turbo reassured her with a smile after returning the kiss. "Happy Valentine's day."
"You too," she replied with a smile. "The pancakes look incredible."
"Only the best for my two favorite girls. Especially on Valentine's Day," Turbo said with a grin, setting the pancakes at her and Vanellope's places at the table and cutting Vanellope's pancake into small pieces before grabbing one of his own from the counter. Candice noticed it was messily covered in whipped cream in patterns that almost resembled letters.
"What happened to that one?" Candice asked curiously.
Turbo chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. "I tried to write "I love you," on it in whipped cream. Turns out it's a lot harder than it looks."
Candice nodded with a laugh. "I bet."
They happily enjoyed their breakfast together, and then, after cleaning up, decided to exchange presents. They both gave Vanellope hers first and she happily snuggled the plushies they had gotten her; a big white teddy bear holding a heart from Turbo and a brown plush puppy with floppy dark brown ears from Candice.
As Vanellope played with her new toys, Turbo turned to Candice, pulling out a box of her favorite chocolates and a bouquet of colorful tulips. "They were out of roses, so I got you tulips. Because I love your two lips," he told her with a smile.
Candice giggled. "That was so cheesy. I love it."
"So does it earn me a kiss?" he asked playfully.
"Do you even have to ask?" Candice grinned, leaning in and kissing him, loving the feeling of his lips against hers. After a little bit, she pulled away and looked into his eyes lovingly. "I love your two lips just as much. And I love you."
"I love you too, Candice," he told her, his eyes soft.
Candice then pulled out the gift bag she had gotten Turbo. "Before we continue this, let me give you your gift."
Turbo's eyes widened at the giant shiny red bag. "Wow. What's in it? That's huge!"
She chuckled. "Open it and you'll find out, silly."
He smiled and did just that, his eyes widening once again as he pulled out what was inside like a priceless treasure.
It was a large golden trophy, filled to the brim with all of Turbo's favorite sweets and engraved with large letters that read, "Always #1 In My Heart." Turbo held it in his hands, reading the inscription, seeming unable to speak for a minute, and Candice shifted nervously. A while ago, Turbo had told her the story of the twins, and the keychain they had given to show he would always be a winner in their eyes, and she had so much wanted to show him she felt exactly the same, that he would always be number one to her too. But had she done it wrong? Had her gift come across as demeaning?
And then he pulled her into his arms, holding her close. "Thank you. I love it." He closed his eyes and rested his head on her shoulder. "You don't know how much this means to me." he whispered.
"I mean every word," Candice told him softly. "You mean everything to me, Turbo."
"You mean everything to me too, Candice," Turbo told her, giving her a soft kiss. "Before you, this holiday meant nothing to me. I just saw it as a boring, overly mushy holiday meant to sell cards and flowers. But with you and Van... it's special. I understand it now, because I want to treasure you both every day. You two, and this first place trophy you gave to me because you love me, mean more to me than any trophy I've won in a race. You complete me. Both of you."
Candice teared up at this, leaning in and giving him a soft, loving kiss before she spoke again. "And you complete me. Before you, romantic love didn't mean anything to me. My first marriage was arranged and even though Vanellope's father was not a bad man, I didn't love him. I couldn't make myself love him. But when you came, and we became friends, I understood what love was supposed to feel like, and it was a love I got to choose. And I choose you. I will always choose you." she said softly.
Turbo smiled softly and touched his forehead to hers. "I'm so glad I was there on the track that day when you tested your magic mirror."
"I am too," Candice leaned up and kissed him. "Happy Valentine's Day, Turbo."
"Happy Valentine's Day, Candice."
