Percy POV:
I opened my eyes and found myself starring at the ceiling of my cabin. This had been the fifth time I had woken up since trying to fall asleep last night. However, unlike the rest of the times, light shone in from the cabin windows; meaning that my last attempt at sleep seemed to be at least somewhat successful. I got out of bed jumping off the top bunk and landing on the floor. I took a deep breath and looked out the window, it seemed to be about five or six in the morning; meaning there was still one to two hours before the other campers would start to be getting ready for the day. I stretched and started rummaging through my closest, finding one of my multiple pairs of an orange Camp Half-Blood t-shirt and a pair of slim fit jeans. Before I could get to putting them on, there was a knock at the door.
"Hello? Percy are you awake?" came a male voice from the other side of the door. "C'mon Percy get up."
I quickly changed into my clothes and opened up the door, "What's up?"
Nico quickly looked me up and down, "Well I was gonna tell you that Chiron wanted to see you at the Big House, but more importantly are you ok?" He said with a raised eyebrow, "You look like you haven't slept in days."
"Don't worry about me and tell Chiron that I'll be at the Big House in ten minutes," I told him while starting to close the door, "I just have to finish getting ready."
"Well ok, just don't be too long," he replied as the door shut.
I did a 180 from the door and made a beeline for the bathroom. It was only then that I noticed I hadn't taken a shower yet. Good going Percy, I thought in my head. I never fail to amaze myself. After taking a quick shower I proceeded to brush my teeth and then dress myself for the second time this morning. I took one long last look into the mirror registering the effects that sleep deprivation had on my face and then stepped outside of my cabin and onto the damp grass.
The cold morning air hit me almost instantly. I took a quick survey of the area; the campgrounds were quiet with only the rustle of the trees and morning birds being audible. All of the campers seemed to still be inside their respective cabins sleeping like rocks. Given that the Second Titan War had just ended about a week ago, this didn't come as much of a shock. Everyone was still recovering and enjoying the comfort of not having a threat of impending doom above their heads anymore. I started my walk through the camp towards the Big House taking in the beauty of nature as I strolled. Even though the Titan War was over, I hadn't been able to sleep in the last week or at least any form of meaningful sleep. The moment Luke sacrificed himself to stop Kronos I've had this feeling of discomfort running through my body like shockwaves. On the inside I've felt horrible ever since that moment and now the effects of it were starting to show on the outside it as well.
A pebble flew past my ear interrupting my train of thought. I was met by a smirk from a certain daughter of Zeus. I forgot that the Hunters of Artemis were staying with the campers for a couple weeks to help speed the recovery process of the Titan War.
Thalia was leaning on the rail which sat atop the porch of the Big House. It seemed I had reached my destination before I even knew it. I walked closer to the porch.
Thalia stood straight up, hands grasping the railing, "Didn't sleep well last night Kelp Head?"
"Didn't really sleep at all," I smiled at her.
She returned my smile with a frown. "You doing okay?"
"Don't worry about me Pinecone face," I laughed. "What about you? Why are you up so early?"
"Well you see I'm kind of part of the Hunters of Artemis and it's kind of our thing to get up really early, so I guess it's just part of my routine now."
"Welp." I replied while climbing the wooden stairs up the porch, "I probably should have seen that one coming."
Thalia turned to face me, "I mean, I guess it's not the only reason I'm up this early."
"Was the other reason to throw pebbles at innocent people for no reason?" I joked. My reply earned a laugh from Thalia and punch in the arm to compliment it.
"You'll find out soon enough." She walked towards the door to the Big House, "Well you coming?" she motioned me over with her hand.
"Lead the way."
I entered the Big House, feeling the familiar warm atmosphere as I took my first steps inside. I followed Thalia further into the House eventually entering the rec room. Chiron and Nico were seated at the ping pong table waiting for us. Thalia took a seat at the table pulling out the chair next to her for me. I sat down and waited for Chiron to speak. At first, it was just silent; the only noise was coming from the crackle of the fireplace across the room.
Chiron looked at me and gave me a faint smile as if he was trying to figure out how to word his next sentence.
"Percy." Chiron spoke my name, his expression turning grim.
"Yes?" I replied, a little nervous about the tone of his voice.
"I'm afraid that war is still upon us."
My heart sank into my chest as I sat there completely stunned by what I just heard.
"I don't understand." I felt confused, "The War is over. Kronos was defeated; I saw Luke put an end to him with my own eyes."
"While it is true that Kronos has once again been scattered into a million pieces, most likely to never form again."
He paused. "We are not the only ones who were fighting to stop a dark presence that is threatening to wage war and bring destruction to civilization."
His sentence echoed inside my mind and made me go deathly pale. It felt as if I was stabbed through the chest. We had already lost so much in the Second Titan War that I couldn't stand to think about putting everyone through the same thing again only a week after Kronos had been defeated. I sat there for a second staring blankly into the fireplace at a loss for words.
I regained the ability to speak, "Chiron, I don't think any of us are emotionally and physically ready for another war. Everyone is still exhausted and I can't even begin to think of the trauma and stress another war would put everyone through, let alone the casualties. If there are others already fighting this 'dark presence' then I think it would be better to try for a quest with the oracle. I'll even volunteer to be one of the three to go on it. We just can't put everyone through another war."
Chiron looked surprised but then smiled at me. "Percy, it was never my intention to suggest everyone fight another war they are not ready for; the plan was for you to go on a quest all along."
"Oh." I said sheepishly.
Chiron chuckled, "Also, the Oracle will not be needed for this quest. It is more of a mission I have been asked to give you."
"Ok, but why me then?"
"You are the most capable and experienced person we have. Our friends in the East have asked that we send our best and seeing as I can only send one person-"
"Wait," I interrupted him, "I thought quests were to be done with multiple people? and if that's the case then why are Thalia and Nico here?"
"Word of this mission about the wizards was passed down from Olympus to me through Artemis," The current lieutenant of the Hunters chimed in.
I looked at Nico and raised an eyebrow.
Nico shrugged.
"I have my ways of finding things out." Nico said with a smirk, earning a huge sigh from Chiron and a small chuckle from me.
"Hold on." I took a double take, "Did you just say 'wizards'?"
"Here we go," commented Nico, obviously amused at my disbelief of the situation.
I looked around at everyone at the ping pong table, "You guys are joking, right?" I tried to laugh it off.
Chiron cleared his throat gaining the attention of the room again. "No Percy, we are not joking about them being wizards. Everything will be explained in a couple minutes."
He looked at me for confirmation, I nodded.
"You remember the goddess Hecate right?"
"Yeah, isn't she the goddess of magic or something like that."
Chiron smiled. "That is correct, and a long time ago Hecate blessed a group of mortals to be able to harness the power of magic through spells and incantations. The blessing of magic is hereditary, meaning that it can be passed down from one generation to the next."
Nico continued Chiron's explanation, "Eventually, that group of 'wizards' evolved into a whole population; a secret wizarding world hidden from the mortals, presumably for the same reasons we hide ourselves."
"How big of a population are we talking?" I asked.
"Well the wizards are located in many countries with many prestigious schools and their governing body." Chiron explained.
"So they really are like a whole hidden world then huh." I was amazed, if wizards really existed then who's to say that Santa and the Tooth Fairy didn't exist.
I snapped out of my own stupor.
"I never heard about who or what the threat was. We do know what the threat is right?"
"The threat is the Dark Lord who was once thought to have perished, but now he is returning and he wishes to rule of the wizarding world and destroy the mortals as he believes them to be the inferior race."
I nodded.
"Your job is to go to the wizarding school, Hogwarts, make friends with the wizards and ultimately stop the Dark Lord from achieving his goals."
I let out a sigh of relief, "sounds pretty straight-forward to me."
"Oh and one more thing relating to your previous question of why only you," Chiron remembered, "You are not to let the wizards know that you are a demigod, it is crucial that you blend in with them."
"What, Why?" I said hoping to get an answer.
Thalia answered, "There's a reason you didn't know about them; the same as why they don't know about us."
"I'm not following along…"
Thalia rolled her eyes, "The last time Wizards and Demigods met there was a devastating war that ended in blood."
"Alright nice this mission just got about 100% harder, is there anything else you guys are gonna throw at me?"
Chiron moved away from the table towards his office, "There is more, but we are running out of time Thalia and Nico will fill you in on the rest while you wait for the train. Good luck Percy and may the gods be with you."
I watched as Chiron left the room, leaving me alone with the daughter of Zeus and the son of Hades. I turned my head back around to see Thalia and Nico getting up from the table and stretching. "So, what's the plan now guys?"
Nico smiled, "It's time for you to catch a train."
"But I'm not even packed and I still need to say goodbye to everyone."
"Hate to burst your bubble," Thalia replied, "But this mission is supposed to be top secret. Nobody at camp is supposed to know you are on it; everyone will just think you are gonna be staying at Poseidon's underwater palace training and recovering from the Titan War."
I frowned, "Not even Annabeth?"
Thalia sighed, "Not even Owl Head herself."
I nodded, "I still need to pack though."
"Do you have Riptide on you?" Nico asked.
"Yup"
"Well then you are all set because we already have everything you need pre-packed," Nico spun around and opened a closet containing a couple of suitcases with what I assumed were all the wizarding essentials and probably a few drachmas.
I intently looked at my new suitcases after I helped Nico drag them out of the closet and onto the floor. There were 2 brown suitcases one with wheels and the other one with leather handles for me to carry. These suitcases were also no joke; they were heavy and seemed to be stuffed to the brim. "You guys act like I'll be gone for a whole year," I said with a small chuckle.
Nico and Thalia just looked at each other and laughed confusing me even more than I already was.
"Well if that's all then we should probably get going," Thalia said, "We'll tell you everything else you need to know while you're waiting for the train.
Nico butted in, "Alright its shadow travel time, you guys know the drill." Thalia and I both nodded.
I grabbed the suit cases and Thalia and I held Nico's hand. I closed my eyes as I felt the world being distorted.
