A New Uncle For Her Family

Luna waited patiently by the door of the school. It had been half a day today and she was waiting for her father to come pick her up. He had promised her they could go out to eat for lunch and she was excited because it was Valentine's Day. She checked her backpack to find the gift she had gotten her father along with a card she had made herself. She smiled as she found the sunglasses she had bought for her father. She had saved up her money to buy them and Undyne had helped her find someone to custom make the sunglasses for Mettaton.

She looked outside again and found her father's limo pulling up and he got out with a smile. Grinning happily, Luna was out the door and running to her father. "Dad!" She said excitedly.

Mettaton smiled and scooped his daughter up into a hug, spinning her around to make her laugh. "There's my daughter," he said proudly, kissing her forehead in fatherly affection. "How was school, pumpkin?"

"It was good," she said.

He smiled. "You ready for lunch?" He asked.

She nodded. "Where are we going?" She asked.

"Well, I was thinking. You haven't yet met Grillby, so I thought we could have lunch at his restaurant and you can met him."

Luna bit her lip thoughtfully and then nodded. "Okay," she said.

She truly did want to meet the fire monster she had heard so much about. She already knew he made great food as her father had ordered dinner from Grillby's restaurant before. And Fuku Fire, who was Grillby's daughter, had told her how cool her dad was. Frisk had told Luna how she had first met Grillby and been afraid, but the fire monster had treated her as if she was his own daughter, comforting her and showing her that she didn't have to be afraid of him.

Asriel had told her about how he and Chara had wanted to help Grillby out in the kitchen, but when they opened the pepper to use it in the recipe, a cloud of the spice had hit their faces and they ended up into a sneezing fit.

But what was worse was there was a bag of flour on the floor and Chara ended up tripping on it and landing harshly on it, making the bag explode open. The whole kitchen was covered in flour and it also landed on both the human child and goat child. When Grillby had entered the kitchen and saw the disaster, the two had been afraid he'd be upset, but instead, the fire monster had been more concerned that his niece and nephew were hurt.

When they told him what happened, the fire monster couldn't help chuckling, which helped break the tension and Chara and Asriel both laughed, especially seeing how silly they both looked covered in flour. The human child promised Grillby they would clean up the mess since she and Asriel had caused it, albeit unintentionally.

The three of them had the kitchen cleaned up in about an hour and Grillby let the two stay and watch him as he cooked some orders for customers. Though he had been touched by the kind gesture of the two kids wanting to help out, he asked that they don't do it alone next time as he didn't want them to get hurt by accident.

When Asriel playfully teased that Chara had looked more like a ghost than he did, the red-eyed girl turned pink and playfully shot back that at least she hadn't been the one to end up with a bit of parsley on her head, to which the goat boy had turned red, leading Chara to explain that the sprig of parsley that had been on the counter had somehow ended up on Asriel's head, making her break into a fit of giggles.

Overall, Grillby sounded like a nice person and Luna was curious about him. Frisk had told her how Grillby made awesome fries and even though Papyrus would sometimes protest, even the skeleton couldn't deny that Grillby did have some excellent food.

"Luna? Luna," Mettaton cooed playfully at his daughter.

She jumped a little, startled out of her thoughts. "Huh? What?" She asked, looking at her father. "Sorry, Dad. What were you saying?"

He chuckled. "I asked how your math test went and you didn't reply," he said in amusement.

"Oh, sorry," she said before smiling. "It went well. I did get stuck on a couple questions, but I'm pretty sure I answered them right."

Mettaton smiled. "Well then, let's go get lunch," he said as they got into the limo. When they got in, the robot smiled and handed his daughter a gift bag. "This is for you, pumpkin."

She was surprised. "Thanks, Dad," she said before looking inside and gasping as she saw there was a pink heart locket and a cute bear inside. Her eyes lit up. "I love them," she said.

"There's one more," he said.

Luna looked again and gasped at seeing the two tickets to one of her favorite singers. "No way," she said, looking at her dad in surprise.

"Yes way," he said with a smile.

She squealed and hugged him. "You're the best, Dad!" She said happily.

Mettaton chuckled and hugged her back. "I knew you'd be surprised," he said.

She grinned and then reached for her backpack. "Um...I hope you like these," she said shyly. "Aunt Undyne helped me with them."

She handed him the box and the card and Mettaton smiled at her before opening his gifts, gasping as he saw the sunglasses. They were black with the letters MTT in large pink letters inlaid in the lenses and they sparkled in the light. "Oh, pumpkin, they're perfect!" He said, hugging his daughter before reading the card and he smiled.

"'To my dad, who is not only the greatest star in the world, but also the best dad in the whole galaxy,'" he read. "Aw, thank you, pumpkin."

"Happy Valentine's Day, Dad," she said.

"And Happy Valentine's Day to you, Luna," he said.

They arrived at the restaurant and went inside. Luna noticed it was nice and warm and it felt welcoming. She then noticed there wasn't anyone there. "Um, is the restaurant about to close?" She asked curiously.

A warm chuckle sounded from behind her and she jumped, turning to find a tall fire monster behind her. "Nope, the lunch rush just ended, so it's rather quiet now," he said before smiling at her. "It's nice to finally meet you, Luna. My daughter has been telling me all about you."

The teenager looked away bashfully, making Mettaton chuckle. "She's heard much about you too, Grillby," the robot celebrity said.

The fire monster nodded. "What can I get you two?" He asked.

"I'll have my usual, please, Grillby," Mettaton said before looking at his daughter. "Pumpkin, what would you like?"

Luna took a deep breath and looked up at Grillby. "Um, Frisk said you make really good cheese fries and burgers," she said. "May I have that, please?"

"Coming right up," Grillby said, showing them to a table and getting them some water.

Mettaton looked at his daughter, seeing she was still rather shy, but curious about the fire monster. "What do you think of your uncle?" He asked.

She blinked. "Grillby is my uncle too?" She asked.

"Yes, he is," her father said, smiling. "I wanted you to meet him after I had first adopted you, but he suggested that I wait until you had settled in and met some of the others."

Luna cocked her head to the side. "Why did he do that?" She asked.

Warm fingers wiggled into the base of her ears, making her squeak and laugh before she turned to see Grillby was responsible for that. "I was worried you'd be afraid of me," he said. "Some are afraid of me upon first meeting me due to the fact I am a fire monster."

She blinked. "But...you're not scary," she said. "At least...I'm not scared of you."

He chuckled. "That's good to know," he said, his fingers playfully wiggling into her sides to make her giggle again. "It wouldn't do any good for my niece to be afraid of me now, would it?"

Luna tried to protect her sides, but Mettaton smirked. "Oh, pumpkin, didn't I tell you?" He asked teasingly. "Grillby is a tickle monster."

Grillby scooped Luna up into a hug, tickling her sides and stomach to make her laugh more. He then tickled the base of her ears again.

"EEEEEEEE! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" She laughed out.

The fire elemental continued the tickle torture for a bit longer before stopping, allowing his niece to catch her breath. She rested her head trustingly on his shoulder and felt her uncle give her a playful boop on the nose, making her giggle again.

"Never thought I'd be an uncle when we were back in the Underground," Grillby admitted. "And look now. I'm an uncle to not only two humans and a young goat, but also to another human girl who is just as special as the rest of my family."

Luna smiled and hugged her new uncle. "Thanks for accepting me, Uncle Grillby," she said.

"You're welcome, Luna."

Mettaton smiled at this exchange, finding it adorable and sweet as the teen hugged her uncle trustingly and he picked her up, holding her as if she was his own child.

Luna, in the meantime, was happy. She had never expected to gain so many family members when her father had adopted her over a year ago, but now, she felt like the luckiest kid in the whole world to have such a loving family now.

Happy Valentine's Day! :)
