Disclaimer: I do not own the works any of these snippets are based off of.
This is a sort of catch-all series of individual scenes, snippets, drabbles, and other similar mini-writing projects which I have done in response to various prompts, mostly on the LU discord server. Topics covered, characters used, quality of writing, and chapter length will absolutely vary from chapter to chapter, and outside of each scene, none of this is linear.
Entry: OC's Are Fun
Prompt: Gotta Go Fast (First Draft)
This was my first attempt at writing something for the prompt "Gotta Go Fast"- however, I realized as I was writing it that while it was a good scene, it didn't exactly fit the theme of the prompt. So, I decided to scrap it as a prompt entry...but I finished and kept the snippet itself. :)
The lead character of this snippet is an OC Link I came up with awhile back, because I swear every single darn time I play BOTW, I wind up sizing up the shrines as potential hidey-holes that people could live in...and so, I figured I might as well come up with The Hero Of (Shrine) Villages, known within Linked Universe (should I ever actually write him into anything that includes LU) as Komai.
In my AU, although Calamity Ganon's defeat was secure, the effects of his Malice remained and continued to influence a lot of the monsters within Hyrule. While Ganon himself is not at a point where he's able to gather himself and rise again, there are many pockets of monsters which have been heavily affected by Malice, and are a lot stronger and more viscious than "normal" monsters. They become enough of a problem that a new Hero Link winds up being born a few hundred years after BOTW Link, simply because the civilian Hylians are not equipped to deal with this level of threat.
Komai is this OC Link, the successor to Wild (the LU nickname for the Link from BOTW), and more than half of the people in his version of Hyrule live inside the shrines because they needed a way to be able to travel safely through Hyrule, and so- *handwaves technology development from purah and botw-zelda* Zelda and co worked to make little traveller protection stops inside of the shrines, which then grew into full villages and a civilization style all their own.
Anyway...I'm pretty sure this explanation of the backstory of the main character of this snippet is longer than the actual snip itself, haha.
I gave him a Korok companion because I wanted him to have a companion, and it seemed fitting that Wild's successor should be friends with a Korok.
He staggered up the stormy hill as lightning flashed around him. His little friend followed worriedly behind him.
"Master Link, you should rest," the little korok murmured. "You don't need to push yourself so hard, you know. Stop for a few minutes and rest."
Link paused for a moment, considering, then shook his head and stepped forward stubbornly. "Can't. Stop...Now." he wheezed. "Hyrule is...Depending on...They're... all-" he stumbled on his next step, slipping in the rain and falling onto the rocky ground, shaking with cold and gasping for breath.
"Hyrule needs you at your best Master Link," chittered the korok. "The people may need your help, what with the gigantified creatures, but that also means taking care of yourself so that you *can* help them. Besides- it's not as if we're up against the likes of Ganon again- not just yet."
"Oh, and since we're not up against Ganon, that makes it okay to take my time when any minute some barely-settled town could be overrun with skultullas or giant keese?"
The korok merely stared at him. He sighed. "Yeah, I guess you have a point." He took a deep breath and stood to his feet. "Tell you what, little guy. You help me get to the top of this hill, and I'll take a break in that little ruined house up there. Deal?"
"...Deal."
