Peter was at an all-time low. After he got his suit taken away after the accident with the ferry he was scared, lonely, and sad. He wanted to cry, scream, just to let everything out. But as usual he kept it bottled up.
That's when he realized something. He's tired of me... that's why he hasn't called. That's why Happy hasn't come to pick me up. The internship is actually gone. After these thoughts flooded through Peter's head they seemed to lock in place.
No matter how much he tried to stop thinking about it, he couldn't. He couldn't find a way to stop the voices from screaming these thoughts at him. But all he could do was smile and go along with his day. It didn't help that MJ had stopped talking to him 4 months ago.
Yeah, he could deal with that, it would be fine because he had Nedd with him right! Right? That would be the case is Nedd hadn't stopped talking to him 2 weeks after MJ did. It started off small like canceling after school plans, that then turned into all of the plans after school, that turned into no hanging out after classes, then it turned into not talking or hanging out at all.
But that was fine. He still had May, and everything was going to be fine! Right?
Turns out he was wrong again. She had started working later at the hospital. Then it turns out she had brain cancer. She wasn't working extra shifts; she was getting treatment and she didn't tell him.
So, he decided to do something he hasn't done in a while. He wouldn't keep the emotions all bottled up inside of him.
He would take them all out and turn them into a song. He knew how much May loved hearing songs he wrote, so he had 2 weeks before the school Talent show to write the song.
Though he had told the Avengers that he was going to perform a month ago, but now he lost his suit he suspected they wouldn't want anything to do with him at this point and he didn't blame them. He was just Peter.
Peter finally decided to come out of his thoughts and venture to his room to grab his guitar. He grabbed his notebook and slung the guitar case over his shoulder as he made his way out of the apartment complex. He made sure no one was around as he started to swing away from the area towards the water tower that was a few minutes away.
Once he had made it to the water tower, he grabbed the case off of his back and then pulled his guitar out and started to work out the cords going towards his song.
Line Break
Tony was in his lab tinkering away with some upgrades on his suit when Friday alerted him that someone was making their way down to his lab. For a minute Tony debated about locking down the lab so no one could get in but before he could tell Friday to lock down the lab someone entered the lab.
There was silence for a few minutes before a family voice spoke up, "Stark? Are you in here? Friday told me I could find you down here," ah yes. Of course, it was Capsicle.
"I'm here Capsicle. Now what was so important that you felt the need to interrupt me while I was in my lab?"
"Have you heard from Peter? We stayed up last night for him to come over for movie night and he never showed. He also hasn't been picking up our calls, is he okay?" Steve's voice screamed out in concern.
"The kids fine Capsicle. I'm sure it's just another teenage mood swing," Tony said, in a careless way as he went back to tinkering with his suit. Steve just huffed while walking out of the lab making his way back up to the common room where Natasha, Bruce, and Clint were waiting for him.
Bruce was the first to look up and acknowledge Steve's presence, "How did it go? What did he say? Is Peter, okay?"
Steve just looked down at the mention of Peter and started rubbing his temples. "Stark told me he was fine, and the reason was a teenage mood swing," Bruce grimaced at that. "I would understand maybe him being gone for a day or being in a bad mood but not ignoring us for 2 weeks."
"I understand where you are coming from Bruce. I got to agree with him Cap. I have 2 little ones of my own. This isn't normal. Not to mention Spiderman hasn't been seen in 3 and a half weeks," Clint replied. This seemed to bug Steve more. This wasn't like Peter; he would never do anything to intentionally hurt the rest Avengers. Never in a million years.
Line Break
It was now two weeks later. Within those two-week Peter had finally finished his two songs that he was going to sing. It had been hard, but he managed. He was on his way to the school now. They had set up a stage in the football pitch so that there would be room for everyone.
As Peter made his way to the school, he thought about everything that happened in the last 6 months. He had lost all his friend, he lost the suit, he lost his team, and he was about to lose the last person in his family. The realization finally hit him, what was to happen to him when May dies? I mean he was 18, but he wasn't ready to be thrown out into the world just yet.
He finally made it to the football pitch he went behind the stage and started getting this set up.
Peter was about ready by the time it was for him to get on stage. "Next up please welcome Peter Parker!" He heard his principle say with a happy tone. Though there was no clapping which hurt Peter.
Peter walked up on stage. It was obvious that he was nervous. Though when he saw everyone staring at him it started to make him anxious. He cleared his throat before he started to strum his guitar. After a moment he started to sing.
"Sunday mornings were your favorite, I used to meet you up on Woods Creek Road."
"May look! It's Creek Road! Mom's old house!" Peter said with an exited look. "When can we see mommy again?" May looked at him with a sad smile. "She is on a trip baby. She will be gone for a while,"
"You did your hair up like you were famous, even though it's only church where we were going. Now Sunday mornings, I just sleep in. It's like I've buried my faith with you."
"I am sorry to say this, but she is gone. I am sorry for your loss Mr. Parker." The doctor said with a sad look. Peter didn't react aside from a single tear falling down his cheek. "Can I see her?"
Peter had to close his eyes to stop the tears from falling. His voice smooth as he kept singing. Never noticing Steve, Clint, Natasha, Bruce, Bucky, and Tony watching him. "I'm screaming' at a God; I don't know if I believe in because I don't know what else I can do." He opened his eyes as he reached the chorus. He was staring at Bruce as he started to sing the Chorus. "I'm still holdin' on to everything that's dead and gone. I don't wanna say goodbye, 'cause this one means forever."
Peter looked at the Casket as it lowered into the ground. He never once cried during the funeral. He just stared at the picture as the rain fell down around him. No one had showed up at May's funeral and it broke Peter's heart.
"Now you're in the stars and six-feet's never felt so far. Here I am alone between the heavens and the embers. Oh, it hurts so hard, For a million different reasons. You took the best of my heart and left the rest in pieces." At the last line he looked at Tony.
"If you're nothing without the suit, then you don't deserve it."
"Diggin' through your old birthday letters, a crumpled 20 still in the box. I don't think that I could ever find a way to spend it. Even if it's the last 20 that I've got, oh" As he continued to sing, he started to strum faster to go with the beat of the song. "I'm still holdin' on to everything that's dead and gone. I don't wanna say goodbye, 'cause this one means forever. Now you're in the stars and six-feet's never felt so far. Here I am alone between the heavens and the embers."
"Peter you are an absolute angle you know that?" May said in a sweet tone as Ben hugged her. "All I did was make you guys dinner. Calm down!" Peter said with a giggle. Ben and May had both had long days and this made their day's better.
"Oh, it hurts so hard for a million different reasons. You took the best of my heart and left the rest in pieces."
There was absolutely no noise expect for Peter's guitar. This is when Peter let a tear fall as he started singing again. This time his voice was filled with emotions.
"I'm still holdin' on to everything that's dead and gone, I don't wanna say goodbye 'cause this one means forever!" He sung his heart out as he let all of his emotions fall amd thats when he felt the snap. Like a chain being broken inside of his heart. " Now you're in the stars and six-feet's never felt so far! Here I am alone between the heavens and the embers. Oh, it hurts so hard, for a million different reasons! You took the best of my heart. Left the rest in pieces."
"Promise me that you will keep going Pete? Don't let me slow you down like Ben slowed me down. Make something of your life." Those were the last words of May Parker.
There was silence as he stopped his strumming. Then all of a sudden, he heard cheering. Then there was a bright light as he set down his guitar and he was whisked away. Never to be seen again. At least that's what everyone thought.
