After taking Maggie to her crib for her nap, Marge grabbed a cigarette and a match from her purse, went to the backyard. She leans on the backside of the house, lit her cigarette and starts puffing.
"Hrmmm..." Marge murmured. She just loves the rich, satisfying smell of tobacco. She then suddenly throws a coughing fit before she clears her throat.
She secretly started picking up the habit from her sisters Patty and Selma. She never used to smoke growing up like they did or when their father smoke, but she always liked to smell the tobacco while inside her house. She started becoming addicted to secondhand smoking, it was intoxicating, but she never complained about it. As long as her family smokes, she can inhale the fragrance all she wants. Because of this, her voice already became raspy when she got to high school. But fortunately it hasn't gotten as deep and gravelly as her sisters' or as throaty as her mother's when she started picking up the habit. She usually smoke just once a day, but eventually started smoking twice a day, then three.
She doesn't want her kids to see her doing this, since she always tells them smoking is bad. She hates herself for being a hypocrite. But she can't help it, it relaxes her from all the stress and crazy antics in her household.
She then spotted Maude Flanders coming outside to get her own laundry from the clothesline. Marge quickly drops her cigarette to the floor and steps on it so Maude wouldn't notice, and then waved her hands around to clear out the smell. The last thing Marge wants is the goody two-shoes wife judging her.
Maude was folding a shirt when she spotted Marge. "Oh, hello Marge. Lovely afternoon, isn't it."
"Hi, Maude." Marge replied with a nervous smile and had her hands behind her back. "It sure is a lovely afternoon. That's why I'm out here for a moment to enjoy the fresh air."
"Well, that's nice." Maude picks up her basket. "Have a good day."
"Good day." Marge sighs in relief. "Well I better go back inside now."
Marge enters the house, knowing she'll need another cigarette break. "There's gotta be someplace for me to smoke where no one can see. Hmm, maybe I'll go to the corner between Skid Rows and Crackton. No one knows me there and no one will find me there. Perfect!" She began vacuuming the living room when she suddenly realize something. "Oh wait, that place has a lot of prostitutes walking around." She starts thinking this through, should she really go to some seedy area just to smoke off? She also doesn't want to be seen with loose women with less morals. But she really craves the smell of tobacco, so her mind is made up. "Well I just have to avoid and ignore them, that's all." She said assuredly.
Author's Note: I personally think Marge is a smoker too which is why her voice is the way it is. Especially since it has gotten more gravelly recently in the series.
