They sat on the top of Whiz Radio Tower, wind ruffled their respective cape.
"You'll need a name." Captain Marvel said as they looked down at the busy street below.
His new partner hummed and above the two the sun began to set.
Sun, stars, Astral. Eclipse, Zexal. And him, the moon. But the moon was always chasing the sun, wasn't it?
"How about…."

Justice League meetings usually lasted three hours. Not a problem for Billy, he could sit still for that long. Captain Marvel, stuffed full with energy and had a million thoughts analyzing the reports in front of him, had a harder time being still. He could let his mind wander, Billy had mastered the skill of paying attention while not paying attention at all, but Batman always shot him that look whenever he did.
Instead he settled for playing with the hem of his cape as the meeting drew on. He spoke up about some issues regarding Kahndaq and Bialya (Black Adam had temporary stopped his focused on Billy for months now, but Billy knew in his gut that it would be a matter of time before the man strikes )
The meeting ended at some point and Captain Marvel was ready to bolt when Batman called out for him.
"Captain, a word?'
Flash and Green Lantern let out hushed whispers of 'ooh, someone's in trouble.' like they were in fifth grade, ironic since Billy was going to the fifth grade after summer. Captain Marvel didn't paid them much mind.
"What do you need me for Batman?" Captain Marvel was curious as to why he was held back.
"You've taken a sidekick." The man said bluntly.
Captain Marvel scratched his head sheepishly. "Well, it's not official yet."
Batman just nodded. "Having a partner is a tight balance act. I'm here if you need any advice. By the way, what's their name?"
"Oh, his name is….."

"Icarus." The teenager in the alley said, his clothes worn and dirty. "Your name is Icarus, right?"
And Yuma, all dressed up in his suit and armor nodded. Still not looking away from the scraped knee he'd been healing even when there was a pair of cautious eyes trailing after him . " Yep!"
" Sounds weird." The little boy whose knee was scraped chirped. "Like one of those characters from that book you've been reading to me Ed."
"Because it is, Theo." The teenager told his brother. "Although his ending wasn't very nice."
" None Of endings in your book are nice, Ed." Theo protested and by now Yuma, Icarus, deemed him well enough to go.
Balance is important, Icarus wanted to say. Instead he checked over Theo for any injuries before telling them to be careful on their walk home. He watched as they retreated into the darkness and asked the Shadows to watch over them.
Duelists used to ask the Shadows for blessings a long time ago. Before Domino city split, and back when the King of Games still carries the Millennium Puzzles. Yuma prayed to the Shadows a few times before. For it to end the nightmares that had been plaguing him since his parents disappearance.
( There was a man in his dreams, cloaked in gold and shadows. He offered Yuma his hand and guided him through the crumbling path. He joked and told Yuma stories whenever the void surrounding him got too scary. He couldn't stop Destiny, Yugi said, but he could help Yuma be brave until Yuma was ready.)
His cape fluttered in the stillness of the air and shifted into wings. It was nothing like the metal wings of Kaito (or Utopia or Zexal III), instead it was soft and featherlike, crafted from some kind of magic thread that Billy had painstakingly spun for Yuma.
With a few experimental flaps, he returned to the sky. Yuma relished the weightlessness for a moment before sliding through the sky of Fawcett. It was his first night not tailing Captain Marvel, it was getting a bit lonely to be honest. A few mugging here and there, nothing big yet so Icarus took his time in the air. Down below, the people move through their day ( or night as the sun was setting) in lively peace.
Icarus weaved through the few skyscrapers in downtown Fawcett a few times and was about to head to the poorer area of the city when a roar shook the air.
King Kull made himself known by splitting the ground. Icarus made himself known by exploding the beastman club with a shot from his gun. Followed like a barrage of spears raining down on the giant man.
It hurt King Kull little, Icarus noted but it was enough to draw the man's attention.
"Where is Marvel?!" King Kull demanded as Icarus waved away his gun for a halberd.
"In space I think." Icarus told him before immediately dipped down from the air, slashing at him with the halberd.
King Kull raised his arms to protect himself and stood his ground. Icarus' halberd cracked after the attack and he trade it for a bundle of red chains
King Kull's arm now had a small scratch on it so time for a change of plan.
Physically, Icarus knew he couldn't do much to damage him without completely draining himself. But that didn't mean he couldn't ask someone else to help.
With his chains, which were slowly darkening, he danced around King Kull's punches. The chain jingled and clacked against each other as they tightened and wrapped around King Kull's burly arms. No matter how much the beastman pushed or pulled, the chains refused to budge.
Throughout the ducking and dodging, the chains grew taut and soon King Kull couldn't move a muscle.
"Guys , now!"
The last thing King Kull saw was several giant swords slamming down on his skull.
Icarus allowed the chains to loosen, just a bit so he could connect them until the police came with the equipment to hold the giant man.
Vaguely over the seas of building, Icarus could feel the wave of chaos and sound ….of ripping guitar?
"Zubaba General watch him until the cops come, okay?" He told one of the Duel Spirit that was present before turning to the other. "Excalabur, let's go check out the commotion."
With that they took off. Unbothered by the lingering gaze of the people of Fawcett.
