It was way too cold outside for the time being, they had to go back into the store.
While entering they had read a sign with the opening and closing times
Monday - 8pm to 9pm
Tuesday - 9pm to 10pm
Wednesday - 8pm to 9pm
Thursday - closed
Friday - 9pm to 10 pm
Saturday - 9pm to 10 pm
Sunday - closed
Guess what day it was, you guessed it. Wednesday.
The three of them groaned in frustration as they realized they couldn't get to anybody until friday. As the store got more frigid they knew they had to find a way to stay warm until they could leave. Jeff suggested they try to start a fire in one of the store's trash cans, but Chelsea quickly shot down the idea, worried that it would set off the store's smoke detectors. They continued brainstorming over ideas until Sumo said
"Why don't we just leave?"
"It's freezing cold outside, how do you expect us to stay warm?" Chelsea asked sumo
"Well we have full access to this store, they gots to have some type of supplies" Sumo suggests
*Loud Gasp*
"Sumo? Are you suggesting we steal?" Jeff asked surprised at Sumo's idea
"What? It's not like they'll know, and it's obvious that their security cameras aren't being used, otherwise we wouldn't be in this mess" Sumo answered confidently
"Wow" Jeff said, "I suppose your right" Jeff begrudgingly admited
"I suppose he is, but still how is he expecting to get back to Aberdale, it took and hour to get to this store in the first place, imagine how long it'll take to get back" Chelsea added
"Well I think it's a great idea, we'll be just like nature kate!" Clarence said
"See guys, Clarence got my back" Sumo added
"But-" Jeff and Chelsea said in unison
"C'mon Clarence lets go gather some supplies!" Sumo said
"Uggh, might as well join them i guess, c'mon Jeff" Said Chelsea
So then Clarence and Sumo went off to find warm clothing, While Chelsea and Jeff went off to find other useful supplies
As this store was mainly a souvenir based shop there options where minimal
Clarence and Sumo came back with "Grand Canyon" Branded hoodies, beanies, and gloves. Perfect for the temperature.
While Chelsea and Jeff found some trail mix, maps, plenty of water, and drawstring backpacks.
"Wow, this souvenir shop really has more than I thought it would have" Chelsea said to Jeff
"I know right, but yet again it is a pretty big shop, we did get lost on here" Jeff said
"True" Chelsea responded
"So are you guys ready to go?" Sumo asked
"Just about" Jeff responded
Clarence opened the door to a pitch black Arizona night. It seemed there was no traffic whatsoever, nor street lamps to replace the lack of headlights. The half crescent moon was the only thing lighting up the world at this time.
Jeff pulled out the maps of arizona from his backpack, luckily the maps marked exactly where they where they'd just need to mark aberdale.
"I have some bad news guys" Jeff said
"Urghgh What is it?" Says Sumo
"According to my calculation if we walk along the road we took to get here it'd take 10 hours" jeff said
"10 HOURS?" Chelsea said in anger
"That'd take way too long, that's like a week!" said Clarence added
"Gimmie That" Sumo Yelled
"Hey!"
Jeff said as sumo snatched the map out of his hands
"Why don't we just cut corners?" Sumo said
"What do you mean cut corners?" Jeff replied
Jeff came over to where sumo was to see what he was talking about. On the map there was the souvenir shop. One long "Y" shaped road, in which the road went right to Aberdale, and left to a different town. With the rest of the map containing all but rough Arizona terrain. What became clear to Jeff that sumo is wanting to go off the road in order to reach the town quicker.
"Are you crazy Sumo?" Jeff said
"I'm just saying your way is twice as long, if we take my way we'll be there in halve the time" Sumo replied
"You may be right but it's dangerous out in the wilderness!" Jeff argued
"OOO, it's dangerous, you where always a sissy jeff, raise your hand if you want to go my way" Sumo said
Sumo raised his hand, Clarence raised his hand, And Chelsea raised her hand
"How bad can it be jeff?" Chelsea asks
"Very" Jeff replies
"I'm sure we'll be fine, lets start walking this way" Sumo said
"C'mon Nature Jeff hehe" Clarence said
Jeff reluctantly followed the group with sumo leading the way. It was a dark barren orange landscape, with very few vegetation. They had packed a couple flashlights and batteries however the flashlights only brightened up a small space so everyone was pretty much huddled around sumo. The winds where picking up and tumbleweeds where flying.
1 hour later…
"Guys im getting pretty tired" Says Clarence
"Yeah Sumo, shouldn't we take a rest?" says Chelsea
"Where do you expect us to take a rest?" Sumo says
"Maybe at that tree over there" Clarence said pointing
"Since when was there a tree?" Jeff said
"I dunno but we probably climb the branches and rest up there" Chelsea replied
Everybody started to climb the tree, each taking a branch to make camp at. The tree in particular was pretty big for a desert tree, and at that the only tree the group could see around them.
The group set up their campsite and decided they should get some rest however the weather wasn't getting any warmer, even in the hoodies they got, they where freezing.
"Urggh its s-s-so Cold" Clarence said while shivering
"I wish we had a fire" Chelsea said
"Why don't we just make one" Sumo replies
"We can't simply just make a fire Sumo" Jeff says
"Well don't we have stuff to start a fire?" Sumo replied
Everyone just blankly stared at sumon
"Did we really forget to get a fire starter" Sumo asked the group
"I didn't think we'd need one" Chelsea replied
"Can I atleast see your guys bags to see if you got anything to start one" Sumo asked
At first the group was reluctant, however with the temperature dropping so much it was the most logical choice to let him check.
"Ahah!" says Sumo
"What'd you find Sumo?" Clarence asks
"Hand Sanitizer!" Sumo Replies
"What hahaha, are you going to clean the fire" Clarence says while chuckling
"No, Hand sanitizers can start fires, I would know…"
*Generic Flashback Whoosh Effect*
Sumo was on a camping trip with his many brothers. After a long day of hiking, they decided to start a bonfire to roast marshmallows and enjoy the evening. As they were getting the fire started, Sumo reached for his hand sanitizer to clean his hands, but accidentally squeezed a bit too hard.
Without realizing his mistake, Sumo squirted a large amount of his hand sanitizer onto the kindling. When he tried to light the fire, the flames quickly spread out of control. Sumo's brothers panicked and tried to put out the fire with whatever they could find, but it only made the flames grow higher.
In the end, the fire department had to be called in to put out the blaze. Luckily, no one was that hurt, but the forest around them was left charred and blackened."
*Another Generic Flashback Whoosh Effect*
"Heh Heh Heh, good times" Sumo says to himself
"Alright everybody, I need you guys to break off some branches, were going to start a fire!" Sumo Exclaimed proudly
Clarence, Jeff, And Chelsea started collecting branches from around them, while Sumo dug a pit.
After 15 minutes or so they had a pretty sizable stack of wood. By the pit of wood they had a big piece of wood with a circle cut out, in the circle they put pieces of paper to help assist starting a flame. Then they put a stick into the circle and tied rope around it. Now with the rope, Sumo on one side started pulling, and on the other side Clarence. After ten minutes of furiously spinning the stick a small flame the size of a candle was formed. Once the small flame was formed everybody helped slowly carry the branch into the pit of sticks they had created.
"Ok we got a small flame now what?" Jeff asks
"I'll show you what…" Sumo said while slowly pulling the sanitizer out of back pocket
"What do you expect to do with that?" Chelsea asks
"Well let me show you….. AAAAAAAAH" Sumo said as he furiously squirted the entire bottle of sanitizer into the pit, the other stick quickly got ignited with a big WOOSH sound.
The others stared in awe, so much so that jeff forgot for the time being that sumo used nearly all of his sanitizer, but for the time being it was worth it for the fire.
