Lillia Henersons life was never going to be normal, she was what you could call an "interesting girl". Her family, city, her whole world was different. They were all weird, strange or un-belonging. This was the place book characters who had never been used, who had been forgotten, went. She herself wasn't one, if she was that would be weird. No, she was descended from a book character from the 17th century. A very long time ago, but all of that aside she was finally ready! Ready to prove she deserved her place in her family!
All of her family were descended from a character in a book about people who could travel into books. But she hadn't known this had been passed down until a year ago on her 10th birthday, when her parents had finally told her where they went on those long trips; books.
After months of grueling tests, and challenges designed to see if she could think like a hero, she was ready, ready for the final test, the big finale. The moment that would decide her fate. So now, she was there, in the hallway of her Grandpa's office waiting with her twin brother Mike and her cousins and anyone else who had even a drop of Henerson blood in them. Waiting for her name to be called so she could take the test. Waiting for the moment when she could jump into a book and help the next generation.
There was one bad thing about this whole "let's go in a book and help some people" thing. They could only go into the future of the story so they had no idea what they were walking into. They needed new people to go into all the new books being published future's to make sure the good guys win, or the bad guys, depending on the type of book.
This was why they were recruiting.
I wonder what book I'll get sent into! I hope it's a good one. Maybe an adventure story that might be nice, she thought to herself.
"Lillia Henerson! You're next" called out her Grandfather's supervisor.
"O-ok. C-come-coming," Lillia squeaked out, suddenly nervous.
The supervisor, Nick, she was pretty sure his name was, led her into Grandpa's office.
The test was weird, first it was a review of what she had learned, then there was a written portion of it. But then she was asked to show her talent, her magical talent. She didn't think she had one so she just said so.
When the time came for her Grandpa to give her the final score, he kept muttering "How? There's never been one before!" and "Obviously broken, no magic at all!"
When she got the score she couldn't look at it more than once. Because there, in the middle of the paper were four letters that would define her for the next few weeks.
