Ok guys, surprise! I did this, omg! Well, to be honest, I've already written a bit ahead for this, so please forgive me. I know in my latest fic I was talking about a crossover, and yes, I did start writing that, but this one took over. So, I'm a bit back to putting angels (and other mythical creatures) into my story again as I did in Human back to vampire for love (and some few other twilight fanfics I have written), except that this is not BellaxEdward fic. This is BellaxOC fic. I am at heart team Edward still, but my writing isn't necessarily that, heh. There will be eventual EdwardxOC, LeahxOC and MarcusxOC, but I'm not sure how much their own stories mixed in with the angels I'll delve into as I will focus on Bella and Lucas(OC). I think.
OC's and idea/plot is mine. Minus parts dragged in from the books, if I do.
I do not own twilight. I apologize ahead for any grammar mistakes (I read through at least once before posting new chapter) or what might clash with the twilight lore regarding the vampires and shapeshifters, but this is fanfiction so keep in mind that anything is possible.
If you don't like it, don't read it, there is no shame in stopping mid-story.
Rated M to be safe. Every chapter will be 2000+ words. Updates will be when they will be, but I do always complete my stories.
There are random angel names mentioned in chapter 4, they will not hold importance as they're just to move the conversation along at one point.
Now, hopefully to create less confusion I'll give you the list of the OC angels that will have a part in this story and what they look like. Assuming you've read or seen twilight, you know how the Characters look like. The Volturi will be from the book version, so younger than they are portrayed in the movies, minus Caius who will be older as according to the books if I remember right.
Lucas (OC), angel. His wings are black, he has slightly tanned skin, gray (almost silver) eyes, and light blonde (almost white) hair. Unknown if any extra ability, though his siblings has their theories.
Talia (OC), angel. She has dark skin, black hair, forest green eyes, white wings; can also change/influence life tapestries.
Erlos (OC), angel. He has fair skin, purple eyes, shoulder length golden blonde hair, and golden wings; can also influence another angels emotions and feel them-human too (possibly other beings too, but only also tested on humans).
Ariel (OC), angel. She has long brown wavy hair, has tanned skin like Lucas, gray (almost silver) eyes (like Lucas), gray wings; can also make one forget/be unaware of what has happened/been talked about (even some thoughts).
Chapter 1:
Watching from afar was part of his job description, literally. It was also to mingle amongst all creatures to not create suspicion towards the demons he followed. Now, he was not the only one watching over, as he had plenty of family around the world that did the same as he did. Sometimes it could take years before any of them managed to weed out their targets, while other times it could take a few hours. It was hilarious really, that most other creatures thought they were the only ones on the planet, while really, it was so diverse, that only their own beliefs in keeping their secrets kept them that hidden. Of course, nothing was unnoticed by him and his family. They had all their knowledge imprinted in their being as the creator of all of the angels had made sure of that. He could not say he knew who the creator was, or the others, or whom was above that again, but he did know his life purpose on this earth.
He had decided against starting at the local high school when he had noticed the coven of vampires that resided in the area where he was to exterminate another demon that was very well hidden. It was amazing, truly, how many myths resided in one place. A tribe with shape-shifters. Fairies in the woods, and mermaids residing close to the La Push beach.
He did pay attention when the human fell in love with the vampire, and found it highly interesting when the vampire did not change his mate. It was odd, he found, that a vampire was so reluctant to change his own mate. To the vampire species in general, the mating bond was sacred, as with all myths that still existed, they had their own version of a soulmate, even angels did, though it was quite rare for them to find a mate, and the mate would always be human, making the angel sacrifice their wings to be with their other half until death, and they would follow each other into the afterlife.
It amused him, truly, how humans were often the ones being thrown into the supernatural, and still clueless because of all the work he and his family did to help keep it that way. Whatever the creators of the different species were up to, there certainly were never a dull moment. However, he could do more without demons. After millenniums of keeping them at bay, because their creator had decided to compete with the rest of them over planet earth – it started to become tedious. He could feel his long existence rest on his shoulders like a heavy cape. It was after all an endless cycle. A demon died, a new one would be created. An angel died, and a new angel would be given life. An endless cycle without an end. Perhaps that was why some of his brothers and sisters had found their soulmate and got the gift to live out a human life until rest.
He could not explain then, his urge to follow the observant human and her vampire. His search had come to a stop and he welcomed the break. Sitting far enough that the vampire could not notice his presence he watched as the male led his mate a little into the woods, but enough that they were close to the house. Curiously he let himself listen in, only to find his eyes widening and he jumped down and started walking towards the pair. He could see their bond, it was there, but turning frailer with each word the male spoke.
His warrior appearance let his wings expand as they needed, and he uncloaked himself as he approached, and noticed when the vampire suddenly turned towards him, golden eyes meeting his in shock. "I wouldn't do this if I were you," he spoke as he neared the couple.
"What?" Bella breathed as she took in the angel that walked right towards them. She could barely get over the fact that Edward was saying he was leaving and not taking her with him and his family.
"Bella, get behind me," Edward muttered, not getting a single read from the angel creature that approached them. Was this his moment of reckoning for all the horrors he had been part of in his past? Or even being with a human? Sounds from his family's minds surrounded as they came closer on foot, running.
You disappeared, Edward! Alice shouted through her mind. Both you and Bella!
We're almost there, Esme voiced.
"Ah, I see I brought this on myself," he mused as he took notice of the rest of the coven and that their souls were nearing. "You have nothing to fear from me," he then said, meeting first Bella's eyes, and then Edward's again. He knew their names just as he would be able to identify any, as long as they had souls in their bodies, whether myths or human. Still he could not explain the draw towards Bella. He barely tilted his head as he saw how she was barely holding on by a thread of hope by his presence there. Interesting, he thought.
"Who are you?" Bella asked, her curiosity getting the best of her as always. The angel smiled a brilliant smile and showed his perfect white teeth. His long blonde hair – almost white – was braided on the sides to keep the strands out of his face. Leather straps covered his muscled chest and tanned skin, carrying different weapons. He wore long loose pants, but was otherwise barefooted. Wings dark as night, and they seemed huge! And that was only folded against his back. His piercing gray, almost silver eyes, seemed to see more into her soul than she could explain, and she felt drawn to him in the strangest of ways. He brought her comfort in what had seemed to be quite a heartbreaking situation.
"My apologies. I've had many names over the long life I've led, but for now, I go by Lucas." He gave a small bow of his neck and then let his eyes take in the bonds while the rest of the coven filled in beside Edward and Bella. Different reactions seemed to pass between the family at his appearance and at what he was. His wings spread a bit more, a tingling in the back of his mind, warning him that the demon he was after was close, but not yet there. He had to lead it away from Bella, especially, as she was human.
His eyes were shining as he tilted his head with the breeze, and Edward could still not get a read on him. The various reactions from his family still passed in their minds, while Bella's remained ever silent.
"Take Bella somewhere safe, I need to take care of something," Lucas then said and flew into the air. He swore to himself as he could not cloak his being while gaining in on the demon that trekked through the forest with human skin.
"Follow him," Rosalie growled towards her husband and Edward, not liking the stranger, no matter how angel-like he seemed. For now he was a threat to her family until they knew more.
Lucas cleaned the blade from the dark blood of the demon as the vampires fanned out around him. Surrounding him – not that it would do them any good if he really wanted to go. Of course the vampires did not know that.
"Dude, what was that thing?" Emmett asked, breaking the silence.
"Demon," Lucas answered, as he placed the blade away.
"Demons are real?" Carlisle asked, although seeing the angel right in front of them, it did make sense that such creatures then could exist.
Lucas nodded. "I was here on the sole reason to take this one down. It took me a bit longer than it usually would considering I tried to stay away from all the myths around here," he elaborated.
"Myths?" Jasper voiced.
"Mythical creatures."
"As in more than just us?" Alice asked.
Lucas nodded again.
"How many myths are there?" Carlisle wanted to know, but also speaking for his whole family.
"Enough." His grin widened. "All myths go to great lengths to protect their own secrets after all. It's not often myths cross each other." He crossed his arms as he tucked his wings up against his back and shifted on his legs.
"Why did you show yourself to Bella and I?" Edward wanted to know.
"I was preventing you from making a mistake."
"It was not your call to make."
Lucas raised a brow. "I beg to differ. You do know what I am? It is my call as any angel's call if we so wish."
"Then where were you when Bella was almost crushed by that van?" Edward hissed. "Or when those men in Port Angeles went after her. The tr-"
Jasper watched with mild interest as he could not read Lucas' emotions. However, he could still feel Edward clearly. He was still good at reading a person, yet the angel was good at covering his expression, unless he really cared less about the vampires around him. That could be it, as no one had really noticed his presence before.
"That was not my fate to interfere with. None of those," Lucas responded, interrupting. "And on that note, I do believe we should all gather up at your house. Bella included."
"Leave her out of this," Edward growled.
"No, she is in the know. From the moment she connected with you, she had a right to know of what's going on," Lucas said with a firm voice. A short ringing in the back of his head made him aware of something else. "Ah, ok. Even with this guy gone and done for, the danger isn't gone from this place." He stopped himself, knowing he had to stay. "On that note, I would like to know how you managed to sever the mating bond you were given."
"Severing the mating bond?" Jasper wanted to know, never hearing of anything like it unless you killed one half.
"It's hanging on by a thin thread. It was not like that when they first met," Lucas explained.
"I haven't seen anything to suggest that they would not end up together. Even his choice of leaving," Alice spoke up.
"What?" Edward stared right at Alice, and she shrugged.
It's the only reason I agreed to go so easily.
"That might be so, but their bond has thinned, and that's not usual between mates. It means that you," Lucas met Edward's eyes right on. "You have been rejecting her in some form or another, severing her connection to you. Do you have any idea what you have done? A soulmate bond is to be treasured. Cherished. It's a gift. And you have made light of it." He had really tried to not let his temper get the best of him, but his beliefs over such a long time held strong. His skin had started to glow and he felt the power within him shine forth, startling the vampires a bit. He took a deep breath with the faint ringing that warned him and calmed himself.
Jasper wasn't sure what to say, the love between Bella and Edward had been going strong. The only thing that could suggest something wrong would be the individual's emotions. He could not say for Bella as he did not interact with her that much, but for Edward, he knew what he thought of this life and fate. Did he really let those old beliefs taint his relationship?
Alice was not used to being blind, and did not appreciate that the angel in front of them caused her visions to dark. She had snippets where her family was when he was not with them, but for now, it seemed that the angel in question was staying.
"Let's continue this at the house then," Carlisle spoke up after the silence stretched out.
Lucas closed his eyes, focused, and then all the Cullens – with him – was transported right to the house.
"That. Was. Awesome!" Emmett boomed excitedly.
"There might be a few side effects, but don't worry, it will pass," Lucas muttered as he took in the living room that was still covered in white sheets. With a shake of his head, he once more used his powers with blinding light and had everything uncovered in a matter of seconds.
"Is that why I feel nauseous?" Alice wanted to know, looking at Jasper whom as well seemed a bit green.
"What side effects exactly?" Carlisle wanted to know.
"Nausea, uncontrollable sweating, unbalance – which I see Edward here managed to suffer with – and it could be nothing. It depends. Emmett seems fine, and so do you Carlisle."
"Good to know," Carlisle muttered as he watched Alice, Edward and Jasper with a slight grimace.
Esme and Rose had taken Bella with them before she could say a word, while the rest of the coven tried to follow the angel while running through the woods.
Bella was not happy. Sitting in her living room, with Rose and Esme, she felt conflicted. They had all left. No matter that they were back now, but they had all actually left without as much as a goodbye. And Edward had seemed to be leaving, breaking up with her as well.
"What were you doing in the woods?" Rosalie then asked, a frown marring her beautiful face.
"He…" She trailed off. Ok, so they did not know of all his plans then. "He was saying he was leaving, and that it would be without me, when Lucas came and warned him…" Her breath was starting to feel shaky and she accepted the cup of tea that Esme gave her with a small thanks. "I guess he was about to break up with me." The tears had been on the verge since the woods, and now they were starting to flow freely. Esme's caring gaze did nothing to help to stop them, as everything in that moment became clearer. "You all left!" she cried as she felt all the emotions bubble over.
"Shh…" Esme whispered and gathered Bella in her arms and then she met Rosalie's eyes over Bella's head while she sobbed.
Rosalie had a sympathetic look as she took in Bella's form. "This was a bad idea," she muttered lowly, only for Esme's ears. "We should not have listened."
Esme barely gave a nod of agreement. They let Bella cry until her breath evened out and her tears stopped falling. "How do you feel?" Esme then asked.
"As if someone tried to rip my heart out," Bella responded, and let out another shaky breath.
"We're sorry, Bella, we did not know…" Rose said as she crouched down in front of her. "No one deserves to be treated the way my brother decided to treat you today. It was wrong." He knows better, she thought bitterly.
Bella just nodded. It was amazing how her life could seem to be falling to pieces in one moment, and then come back within seconds. The rollercoaster of her life seemed to be never ending. And the ride the Cullen family had taken her through, had certainly done their toll.
"Esme, will you let Charlie know that Bella stays with us tonight?" Rose asked as she looked down on her phone.
"Certainly."
"What's going on?" Bella then asked, done by being in the dark another second. Her anger seemed to blossom as the tears had dried. Even if plenty of anger had been released with her heartbreak too. It was no going back to how it once had been. As in the matter of moments everything had changed, and still it truly hadn't. She still loved them all.
"Everyone will return to the house, including Lucas. We need to be there," Rose explained. She knew Edward better than most thought, as she had spent more time with him as Carlisle had hoped she would be what Esme was to him. They clashed for different reasons, and not to forget the rage she carried in those early years. Meeting Emmett had changed so much for her. It did not stop her shock from his behavior towards Bella. She was his mate; how could he treat their bond in that way? That way of mistreating the bond without it being a mutual decision was even a bigger crime in their world, and she really hoped that he had a good reason.
