Hummingbird Drabble
by

Bronze-green, ruby-throated, constantly buzzing, chirping shrilly, the hummingbirds fought for position on the tiny perches and filled their wee bellies with sugar water.

Milt Hardcastle and his grandson Matt watched eagerly, impressed with the birds' determination despite their size. A sudden flurry indicated that a spat over precedence had been decided, and the other feeder needed a re-fill. Matt's father, Mark, arrived just in time to take over that duty and then he joined the twosome to be entertained by the jewel-colored birds' antics.

The sun set slowly behind a wall of fog over the ocean. And day was done.
