CHAPTER 6: FAIRIES & THE WISH
←* But Fablehaven wasn't Fablehaven anymore… →*
In place of the lush and beautiful Fablehaven, she'd loved and cherished, a dark and charred landscape remained, the trees and the house all nearly burned down. Kendra gazed, stunned. Bracken gently wrapped his arms around her waist, trying to comfort her. Fists tightening, she growled, "Show me who did this evil deed." As she had suspected, dark fairies started zapping over, flaring bright bursts of dark energy at the royales. On a radius of 5 ft, the dark flashes of light dissipated. Fablehaven was already starting to blossom, just by her appearance.
Swirling in anger, Kendra removed the fairies from their dark trance and found herself surrounded by fairies, saddened with grief. Kneeling silently a tiny fairy whispered, "Forgive us, your Majesty, we were not ourselves." Shiara raced over, shaking in shock. Bowing quickly to the Fairy Queen, she said, "Pardon us, your highness, I don't know what happened, but a dark force took control of us. It was not Ronodin, but someone darker, and eviler. He made us destroy our beloved Fablehaven!"
Then she blinked, realizing the change in Kendra. "How are you a fairy? You look like a goddess!" A chorus of astonished voices accompanied her. "You're the Light Guardian!" "Kendra, you're the one from the prophecy!" Raising her hands for attention, she started.
Then before she'd known what was happening, Fablehaven was restored to normal. It was just missing the people that normally occupied it. Bracken smiled and stepped forward. "I know what to do!" Kneeling he cupped a familiar crystal in his hand. He whispered softly a few words, and people suddenly appeared out of thin air, looking confused.
Kendra turned to him. "Bracken! You shouldn't have. I guess I owe you a new favor." Grandpa Sorenson turned, blinking. "And fairy, I think you owe us an explanation."
Grandma Soreson gasped, pressing her hand to her heart. "Is that you, Kendra?"
Warren looked jealous. "Kendra gets to be a fairy? No fair!" Kendra grinned. Fablehaven was back to normal. "Yup, I think we owe you all a big explanation. Let's go to the Sitting Room." As they sat, the group started telling the story as fast as they could, taking turns to relieve their memories. "So yeah, basically, we need to return to the Fairy Realm, ASAP and rescue the kingdom. But first, we're going to have to request aid from the fairies."
Grandpa Sorenson agreed. "Of course, Kendra, trust your instincts. Stay safe. It's impressive beyond words that we have the Light Guardian as our family member. If you need any support, don't hesitate to reach out to us." "Speaking of contacting you here is a communicator," she said, handing them watches. "It also changes into any weapon you wish for it to turn. To return it to the watch form, just whisper, 'frigeben.'" Grandma hugged her warmly. "Of course. Would you care for a biscuit and tea?" They accepted, of course, Ruth's cooking skills were well known in all of Fablehaven. As they ate, Kendra whispered the plan to them softly, making sure nobody was hearing. "So, I am a powerful fairy, and the ability to turn tiny fairies into full-fledged warrior fairies is well within my abilities." Eurora's eyes widened. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking," she gasped? Molea caught on quickly, grinning. "Your remembering the time I gave you the elixir to turn the small fairies into full size, right?" Kendra nodded. "Yup. But this time, it won't involve elixirs. I can do it with my sheer power."
The group agreed enthusiastically. That's when Bracken added a suggestion, joining the conversation. "How about some of the fairies here at Fablehaven, go to different places and spread the word, freeing them, and asking for assistance in the upcoming battle?" Kendra turned to him, beaming. "That's a great idea," she marveled, "how come I never thought of that?" "Who is the most worthy of all fairies here, the most responsible and acquainted with you to deserve a high posistion," Eurora asked suddenly. "Shiara," the group said without hesitation. "She's helped me out numerous times," Kendra agreed.
"If she is extremely trustworthy, would you be willing to promote her into a Fairy Duchessa," Eurora continued, gazing at Kendra. "Of course, Eurora." "Then, let's do that," the Fairy Queen, said softly. After calling out a quick goodbye the party found themselves outside the Fablehaven manor. "Shiara! Can you come here for a second, dear," the Fairy Queen called out. Shiara flew over, curtsying. "Of course, your majesty. Is there anything I can help you all with?" "Actually, no" Kendra answered, "I would like to offer you a promotion to Fairy Duchessa, as you are the most kindest of all fairies I have met."
Shiara gasped, pressing her fingers to her chest. "I— I— I don't know what to say," she said, in shock, "but, I do accept. Thank you so much." Waving her hands, Kendra restored Shiara to her full size. Tilitng her head upwards, Shiara knelt. Kendra placed a silver diadem upon her head and smiling warmly began the coronation.
"I, Light Guardian Kendra Sorenson, appoint Shiara with the titles Fairy Duchessa and Lady of the Fairy Realm, allowing her to command all fairies, and along with this, I allow her to enter the Fairy Realm without the explicit permission of the Fairy King or Queen. I appoint her with ¾ of my power and I know that she will use it responsibly, and to the best of her ability for the fairies' safety and interest. "Hail, Duchessa Shiara," said Kendra. When Shiara stood up, she had transformed into a gorgeous fairy. Her silver diadem adorned her flowing black hair, and she stood regally, glowing with happiness. "Thank you so much Kendra," she said, twirling and enjoying her new dress.
