A/N. Thank you for all the reviews guys!
"I wonder if you are going to have the fates tell the two the truth that they are supposed to be together" -Nightcat77
No, they're not going to mention that.
"Ooh the fates, this'll be fun. A few questions btw:
So does Percy view the fates as his mothers as they created him, or does he even have any relationship with them?
How can percy whittle an effective bow in the span of one morning?
What is Percy's connection to the ocean?
Who were and what were the other guardians like?
I know most of these will probably be answered with time, but if there are any questions that you wouldn't be able to easily answer without awkwardly trying to fit them in, I would love to hear your thoughts on them. Good job on this one!" -PokemonAndPJOFanboy
So, the Fates view Percy as their son, while he kind of sees them as parents, but also not really.
With lots of practice, lol
Nothing, he just likes it.
You'll see mentions of a couple of them in this chapter. But in the next past chapter, you'll get to properly meet them and stuff.
Lastly, thank you!
"*CLAP**CLAP**CALP* Wonderfull. Truly amazing, I look forward to seeing where this goes, a really amazing concept with s story, I promise you this would fly off to one the best fics in a matter of days, especially with upcoming chapters. I also would love a Former Hunt/Percy, Latter Hunt/ Percy moment. As they would turn out to be mind-blowing. Also kinda mad about the cliff hanger, couldn't you have written a little more? :'(
Will also be looking forward to the backstories
KJ,
Peace Out!
PS. Give thanks to your Beta from me.
PSS. Could you tell me your thoughts on TOA, since I have noticed many people didn't like that very much" -KryptonWrites
Thank you! This is already my most popular story on . (Not so much on Wattpad and Ao3, but I digress). Percy and the Hunt interact the most in this chapter honestly, so hope this fulfills that, lol. As for the cliffhanger, no, no I couldn't.
Here is a backstory chapter to satisfy those needs.
I did, she said "I offer my gratitude for their appreciation :3" and "He has my blessing"
I have mixed feelings on TOA. I personally like the original five books the most, as I like Percy's narration the most. I really resonate with his sarcasm and cynicism as well as self doubt. But I do admit that it was cool to see Apollos character develop over the series.
"Dang this story is going crazy and I love it XD" -OkBoomer147
Thank you!
"I am really curious about how this story is going to come to life. Is it going to focus on character development? Maybe a dreaded adversary? or maybe an Impossible quest...
This chapter is great! Absolutely loved it." -RagingFusion
It's going to focus on Percy and Artemis's relationship developing as they go on a quest to regain Artemis's immortality. Thanks!
"Enjoying the story so far! Looking forward to the next chapter!" -TheKingOfPrussia
Thank you! Here it is!
"Sooo... are the Fates Percy's parents ?" -Ladis11
They are his creators, and they view him as their son. Percy is a little more indifferent to them, kind of seeing them just as, The fates. Sometimes he will see them as his parents, but they aren't really that close.
Alright, onto this behemoth chapter
Chapter Six
"All geared up?" She asked him.
He nodded. "Yeah. Feel like I can take on the world."
Artemis cracked a small grin. "Good, you're going to have to take on half of it."
It wasn't long before Perseus started to see some action. He was sleeping in a tree. Normally he would sleep in a tent, but when in a monster infested area, like a nest, he would sleep outside so he could hear if any monsters were coming. He had to give all the credit to Artemis. His ears were so fine-tuned he could hear a pin drop a mile away. Her blessing also protected his ears from loud noises that were close. Hearing was sacred for a hunter, just as important as the eyes, maybe even more. He was also a super light sleeper, constantly on guard.
He heard the hellhound's footsteps coming on the other side of the camp. His eyes shot open as he instantly woke. He quickly sat up and jumped down from his branch. He ran across camp silently and climbed a tree on the other side of the Hunt's camp.
He grabbed his bow from his shoulder and drew an arrow. He waited till the first hellhound entered his sight. He took aim and let the arrow fly. Headshot to the brain.
Then more hellhounds emerged from the darkness. A pack of them. Their eyes glowed red in the darkness, their black fur blending into the black grass below. There must've been ten at least.
A silver arrow ended up in one of the demon dogs on the outside of the pack. But the arrow didn't come from Perseus's bow. Perseus turned to where the arrow must've come from but didn't see anyone there.
He took aim and killed another one. The hounds were looking at him with daggers in their eyes. Perseus took aim and shot at another just after another arrow entered it.
"Stole your kill!" A girl's voice came from his right. He turned to see who it was, but no one was there. He could've sworn he knew whose voice it was.
He turned back. Six left. Were there only six left? He could've sworn only three were killed. Maybe he miscounted in the beginning.
His thoughts were interrupted by a snarling in his ear to his left. He turned to meet with the red eyes of another hellhound. It emerged from the tree's shadow cast from the moonlight. He cursed his idiocy. He forgot the damn things could shadow-travel! The beast leapt forward, knocking him to the ground. Its claws ripped into his chest.
He grunted in pain before pulling his knife out of its sheath. He brought it up and stabbed the hellhound in the head. It collapsed on top of him. He pushed the dead demon dog off of him and stood up, meeting the glares of the six hellhounds. Never mind, five. A silver arrow entered another's head.
Perseus charged the closest one with his knife as it charged at him. Just before the beast could grab Perseus, he jumped. He landed on the back of the hellhound and sliced down the thing's neck, drawing red blood. He jumped off of its back as another hellhound leapt at him. Its claws dug into the hellhound with the cut neck, ripping flesh from its comrade.
Perseus stabbed that hellhound in the head, killing it too. Another silver arrow came from a tree, killing another hound. One left.
He waited till it leapt at him to do anything. The beast tried to bite him, but Perseus plunged his knife into the beast's throat and stabbed upwards, impaling the thing's brain. He pulled his knife out and looked around. He counted the bodies. Only nine of them.
He turned and heard the sound of a hellhound's snarl. He picked up his bow, nocked an arrow and let it fly. It struck his target, impaling its heart to the tree, saving the girl in silver who was about to be bitten. He only caught a glimpse of her black hair before she leapt away.
Perseus looked around at the dead bodies around the forest. With his adrenaline gone, the claw marks on his chest stung, but there was nothing he could do about it now. He sighed and climbed the tree he had originally climbed before he was knocked out of it. He rested against the trunk and closed his eyes, ready for another round of light sleep.
In the morning, before the sun rose, and the birds chirped, he made his way to the food tent. His chest still hurt, though the cuts and scabbed over, and the blood dried. He entered the tent. No one else was in there, but there was food on the table. He grabbed a plate and put some of the venison on his plate. He grabbed a cup and put some water in it from the large bucket next to the table.
He sat down at another table and started to eat.
It wasn't long before another person entered the tent. She just grabbed a cup and filled it with water. She walked over to Perseus and stood on the other side of the table.
"Hell of a scar." She said.
Perseus recognized the voice. The one that helped him last night in the forest. Perseus looked up and kicked himself for not recognizing her earlier. It was Zoë!
"Yeah. Thanks for your help by the way." Perseus said, taking a sip of his water.
Zoë sat down. "You weren't so bad yourself."
"Probably would've gotten worse than this cut if you weren't there." Perseus said, gesturing to his chest. "What were you doing there anyways? The rest of the Hunters were asleep."
Zoë shrugged. "Couldn't sleep. Heard the hellhounds, decided to fight. How about you?"
"Light sleeper. Heard them coming, rushed over to defend the camp."
Zoë smiled a little bit. "You know what, Perseus? You're not that bad."
Perseus smiled and ate another piece of meat. "Thanks." He said after he swallowed.
They ate in comfortable silence.
LINE BREAK
Perseus and Artemis walked carefully through the woods. They were on a mission from Zeus. A terrifying spawn of Typhon and Echidna was terrorizing the kingdom of Lycia. They were sent to hunt it and eliminate it.
Their footsteps were silent, their feet dodging any tree roots, stray sticks, and crunchy leaves. They had their bows at the ready, their eyes scanning for any marks left by the mighty beast.
The sounds of a lion's roar and a goat's bleat penetrated the silence of the forest. They looked at each other. Lions didn't live in this part of the world. Perseus and Artemis instantly started to dash towards the sound.
They were met with a horrific sight. A mighty beast was tearing into a villager man, ripping its lion's paws into the man's chest and eating his flesh. Blood stained the mouth of the beast. It had the head of a lion, along with the top half of its body. The bottom half of its body was made of scales, like a reptile. Its hind legs were of a dragon's and its tail was a snake with fangs as long as a banana. A goat's head was attached to the beast's neck, like a modern-day periscope on a submarine.
Artemis took aim with her bow and shot the beast. The arrow stuck in the Chimera's hide, but it seemed to have no effect on the beast, other than pissing it off. It roared out of its lion mouth, while spewing flames out of its goat head.
Perseus shot his arrow at the goat's head, getting an arrow in its eye, but it too had no effect.
The beast stood up. Its size was massive. Standing on all fours, the thing was the same size as a wooly mammoth. The goat's head spewed fire towards them. They rolled out of the way, Perseus going left, Artemis going to the right. Artemis came out of the roll with her bow drawn, an arrow nocked. She let it fly. Again, it didn't have any effect.
Perseus pulled out his knife and charged the beast. The goat's head spewed flames at him as he approached, but he was able to dodge it. The Chimera swiped at him with its paws. He stabbed it in the bottom of its paw. The beast seemed to feel that before he pulled the knife out. It took a step back, before its tail came forward, fangs bared. He deflected the fangs of the snake, only for the lion's head to take a bite out of Perseus's arm. His bicep was now missing a chunk.
He screamed in pain but kept standing and switched his knife to his other hand. He retreated as Artemis shot a volley of arrows at the beast. The arrows still didn't do anything more than annoy the thing.
Perseus needed a blade with a longer reach. His hunting knife wasn't going to do enough good to outweigh his injuries. He could barely raise his right arm. Blood was leaking down his arm, dripping onto the grass. He grit his teeth.
Artemis had climbed a tree and was continuing to rain down arrows. The goat's head spewed fire at her, causing her to leap from the branch to the ground.
Perseus dodged another strike from the Chimera's tail and managed to slash at its scaly body. His knife just bounced off. The Chimera leapt at him, knocking him down and pinning him to the ground. His knife went flying. It roared in his face, blowing bloody spittle all over his face.
Perseus tried to fight it off, but the thing weighed a ton. He almost resigned himself to his fate when an arrow entered the lion's eye. It stumbled back. It turned its focus to Artemis, who drew her knife.
Perseus stumbled to his feet and looked around for his knife. His search was interrupted by a scream. His head swiveled to Artemis, who had a certain snake biting her ankle. Perseus felt adrenaline pump through his veins as anger overtook him. He forgot about his knife. He forgot about the bite in his arm. His surroundings faded to red as he focused on the Chimera.
"Hey, ASSHOLE!" he shouted at the top of lungs as he charged towards the beast. The creature turned to be met with Perseus's fist. It wasn't expecting such bravery from the Guardian, as was evident that it was stunned for a second.
Artemis had fallen to the ground and was starting to convulse. The venom was starting to work. He needed to work fast.
He felt stronger as the Chimera's tail charged at him. Perseus wouldn't remember it later, but his whole body glowed silver. Guardians gained extra strength and reflexes when their charges were injured. A sort of last resort in case they failed at their job. And Perseus's failsafe was hitting full force as he grabbed the neck of the snake.
The snake tried to bite him, but he kept the snake's mouth out of range of biting. He pulled the snake, ripping it out of the Chimera's body. He tossed it at a tree as the snake crumpled and withered, leaving a dried-out corpse behind. The lion's head roared in pain as Perseus stared at it with daggers in his eyes.
The Chimera stalked around its prey, observing Perseus in a new light. A threat.
Perseus charged at the beast again. In reflex, the goat's head spewed fire at him. He ignored it as he jumped over the lion head and stuck his whole forearm down the goat head's throat. Fire burned his skin before Perseus grabbed the creature's uvula. The fire stopped and the creature almost seemed to whimper in fear, before Perseus pulled it out. Blood spurted down Perseus's forearm and his face.
The Chimera knocked him from its body and fled to lick its wounds. A trail of blood droplets was left on the grass. Perseus watched as the Chimera left the clearing before turning and rushing to his fallen Goddess. She had stopped convulsing, which worried him. She was turning even paler than usual. Her skin was hot to the touch.
He picked her up bridal style, praying to the Fates that she wouldn't kill him. Good news, she was still alive. Besides her super shallow breathing, she shifted when he picked her up. She briefly opened her eyes and smiled at him before closing her eyes again.
Perseus carried her back to the Hunt's camp. His arm was killing him by the time he got there, but he still carried her. He was met with the glares of the hunters when they saw a passed-out Artemis. He ignored them and walked to the medical tent. The Hunters followed him.
Atlanta, the medic, instantly shot up when she saw them. Perseus laid Artemis down on the table.
"What the hell happened?" She asked Perseus.
"We had a fight with the Chimera. She got bit by the snake, tail, thingy." He explained.
"Couldn't protect her, Guardian?" One of the hunters spat at him.
"Not from a lack of trying! What is all of this?" He gestured to all of his injuries. "I'm missing part of my arm! Artemis is dying to Chimera venom, and you are deciding to get mad at me, rather than let Atlanta save her! If you could just shut up, FOR FIVE MINUTES!"
Atlanta spoke up. "Perseus, I don't know how to cure Chimera venom. It's practically impossible." She said, regret imminent in her voice.
Perseus took in the information and turned to Artemis. She looked like hell. But also, like, really good at the same time. He shook his head. Wrong thoughts at the wrong time. Wrong thoughts in general. "There might be one person who can."
"Who?" Zoë asked.
"LORD APOLLO, ARTEMIS NEEDS YOUR HELP!" Perseus yelled to the sky.
A flash of golden light entered the room. Standing there was the radiant God of the Sun. "What's happening?" He asked.
"Artemis got bit by the Chimera."
Apollo's eyes widened. He rushed to Artemis's side and examined her. He prodded the snake bite. Artemis moaned in pain. Apollo raised his hand and gently placed it on her forehead.
"Okay, I can work with this." He muttered to himself. He grabbed some spare herbs and chemicals from around the room and mixed them in the bowl. He pricked his finger with a needle and dropped some ichor into the bowl. He mixed it in. He opened up Artemis's mouth and poured some of the mixture into her mouth.
"Okay. That should keep her alive. It's going to take a while for the venom to leave her system. She will throw it up, so be careful."
Perseus breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Lord Apollo." He said, bowing before the God of medicine.
"Happy to help Artemis." He examined Perseus. "Sit down on the table. Let me fix you up."
Apollo grabbed some paste from a drawer and applied it to the bite in his arm. He wrapped a bandage around it. "The wound will heal. The muscle will come back over time. Don't overexert yourself. Go clean up and get some rest." He instructed. "Artemis should be put in her tent to rest."
Perseus nodded. He picked Artemis up again and walked out of the tent. He carried her to her tent. Her tent was the biggest and coziest one out of all of them. He laid her down in her bed, He made sure to lie her on her side so if she threw up, it wouldn't choke her. He placed a bucket next to the bed.
He stared at her before turning around and leaving the tent.
He walked dejectedly through the camp to the river that was nearby. He fell to his knees at the riverbank. He stared at his reflection in the water. It was hard to see in the moonlight, but it was there.
He washed his arm of the Chimera's blood. He pulled his arm out of the water when he heard a voice.
"You're pathetic." It said. Perseus looked around, trying to find the source, but no one was around him. He looked back down to see his reflection. Its mouth seemed to move in the running water. "You're a fucking pathetic excuse for a Guardian. Artemis almost died because of your incompetence. None of the other Guardians are struggling with their assignments."
Perseus closed his eyes.
"You shouldn't even exist."
Perseus grit his teeth. He raised his arm and punched the water. The ripples in the river made his reflection dissipate. He slowly looked up at the moon.
"I'm going to kill it. I swear on the Styx."
His vow was sealed by a clap of thunder.
He walked through camp to the armory tent. He entered and looked around. He grabbed a new bow and quiver filled with arrows. He turned to the blades they had. He grabbed a knife and tied the sheath to his leg like his other one. He also grabbed a sword and strapped it to his waist. He grabbed a lit torch before leaving.
He snuck out of camp and went back to the clearing he and Artemis had fought the Chimera at. The beast was gone. He remembered seeing a trail of blood. If he followed it, he would find it.
He followed the trail, keeping an eye on where the blood led him to. It wasn't before long he reached the mouth of a cave. He walked into the cave, the torch lighting as much darkness as it could. The roof was very high up, and the walls far apart. He walked deeper into the cave.
And there the Chimera was, perched on a large rock. It looked beaten and battered. Broken arrow shafts littered its hide. Blood matted fur. A missing tale. It watched him with careful eyes. Perseus unslung his bow and nocked an arrow. He took aim and let the arrow fly. It made a little whistle before landing in the nose of the lion's head. The creature roared in pain.
The goat's head tried to spew fire at him, but with its uvula gone, its throat was no longer lubricated with saliva. So, when the fire rose in its throat, it caught fire to the dry skin and burned the head from the inside.
The Chimera stumbled and fell off of its perch. The goat's head fell limp at its side. The most dangerous parts of the beast were now gone, and Perseus felt much better. He drew his sword and stared the beast in the eyes.
The Chimera leapt at Perseus. He waited till the beast was close before stabbing it in the chest. The beast collapsed, and Perseus's hand let go of the sword. He drew his bow again and launched an arrow into the hole where the snake tail had gone before it was torn off.
The arrow bypassed the scales of the beast's body, finding flesh to impale. The beast watched as Perseus walked around to face the Chimera's face. He approached it. The beast couldn't do anything but watch.
Perseus's face was stoic as he approached, but you could see the hate in his eyes. He grasped the handle of the sword and pulled it free from the beast's chest.
"You hurt Artemis, bastard." He whispered in its ear before slowly slitting its throat. He watched as the Chimera's life left its eyes. Thunder rumbled again, punctuating the completion of his oath. He had slayed the Chimera.
Perseus raised his sword. He cut the monster's head off, before pulling out his hunting knife and skinning the beast. He wrapped the pelt around himself and picked up the beast's head. He walked out of the cave, wrapped in a Chimera pelt, covered in blood, with its head in one hand, and a bloody sword in the other.
He walked back to camp. The hunters that were roaming around stopped when they saw their mistress' Guardian stumbling into the camp. He made straight for Artemis's tent, not saying a word to any of them.
He entered Artemis's tent. Upon hearing someone enter her tent, she looked at the entrance. She almost gasped when she saw her guardian. His face was covered in blood, as well as the rest of his visible body. He wore the beast's pelt, and had its head in his hand. She never thought she would ever see him like this. A quick thought of 'he doesn't look too bad' crossed her mind before she banished it.
"Perseus." She said softly. "You…"
"I killed it." He said.
"You were injured. A chunk of your arm was missing." She recalled.
"And you were poisoned."
Artemis tried to sit up. Perseus dropped his sword and stopped her. "You need to rest."
"And so do you."
"I'm fine."
"Perseus, you went back and killed the Chimera."
"It almost killed you. Besides, it was weakened from the fight earlier."
"You went to kill it… because it almost killed me."
"I failed to protect you, the least I could do is go back to make sure it couldn't do it again. But I couldn't have done it without you weakening it up earlier. Which is why these belong to you." he placed the head and pelt on her bed next to her.
"Percy, you didn't fail me." She didn't know where the nickname came from, but it felt right to say. "These trophies are yours. You killed the Chimera by yourself. You have earned them."
Perseus looked down. He opened his mouth to say something, but there was nothing coming out.
"You're going to take the trophies for yourself, and you are going to rest now. And I'm going to make sure of it." Artemis told him sternly. "Take a seat."
Perseus sat on the floor, on the numerous pillows and pelts that covered the floor. Artemis's bed was only a couple of cushions on the floor, so she wasn't much higher than him.
"What did you call me?" Perseus asked her after a moment of silence.
She thought back. "Percy."
"Percy." He tried, letting the name roll on his tongue. He smiled. "I like it."
Artemis smiled, before turning to the bucket and puking. Percy leaned forward and pushed her hair back to keep it out of her face. When she finished vomiting, she smiled in thanks.
"Thank you." She said quietly.
They sat in silence for the rest of the night.
LINE BREAK
Orion loved Artemis. No doubt about it. He had only been a part of the hunt for a couple of days, but he loved Artemis. She would be his, he was sure of it. The only thing standing in his way was that stupid guardian. He was always around the Goddess.
He tried to get Artemis alone, but she always invited him along. He needed to find a way to have Perseus get out of his way for more than five minutes. Though, he wasn't with Artemis now…
The very man he was plotting against was on the other side of the camp, washing off in the river. He bathed separately from the Hunters, always going after they got back to give them their privacy.
His mind drifted to the only other male Hunter in the group. Percy didn't trust Orion. He seemed to have ulterior motives, and he had a past of transgressions. Hell, he was kicked out of Chios for raping the king's daughter. Artemis didn't know, since Percy only learned the news from Tangela—Hermes's Guardian. He didn't want to tell her, since she wouldn't respond well, but he felt like if he didn't, it would end in a disastrous way.
The Hunters also didn't like him. They had warmed up to Percy over time, but he didn't think the same could have been said for Orion. Even the more friendly hunters hated the giant's guts.
That was another thing. Orion was a Gigante, born to oppose Apollo and Artemis. Percy had told her that it probably wasn't a good idea to let him near Artemis, but she barely heeded his warning. She believed his claims of not wanting to participate in the war.
He finished washing the dirt off of his skin and stood up. He walked out of the river and put his clothes back on. He walked back to the camp. As he passed by a tree, someone called his name.
"Perseus."
Percy turned around to see Apollo standing next to a tree, leaning back on it. He had his arms crossed. His Guardian, Lydia, stood next to him. He waved at her before Apollo started speaking. "I trust you're aware of Orion."
Percy nodded.
"I don't trust him."
"Me neither. I think he's up to no good."
Apollo shook his head. "He IS up to no good. Look, where is Artemis?"
"She's in camp, with the Hunters."
"You better get back to her quickly. Something bad is about to happen. I'm going to keep an eye out from above."
Percy nodded.
Apollo flashed out, taking Lydia with him.
Percy turned and ran into camp.
Back in the camp, Orion saw Artemis by the shooting range, launching arrows into targets. Each arrow split the one before it.
"Artemis!" He called. She turned. She looked at him with a blank expression of indifference, but Orion knew. He knew it was just a front. She loved him, she wanted him. She swore to be a maiden just to wait for him. To ensure she was pure for him.
"What?" She asked him.
"Care for a little challenge? Whoever can hunt more animals? Winner gets a boon?"
Artemis raised an eyebrow. "Why should I?"
He shrugged. "A little, friendly competition. Come on. Don't tell me the mighty Huntress Goddess is afraid of being beaten by me."
"Fine."
They walked into the woods. When they were out of sight of the Hunters, Artemis drew her bow. "How long?"
Orion turned to her with a dark look in his eyes. "However long I take." He growled.
"What–" She was interrupted by Orion rushing her. He knocked her down and pinned her to the ground. She might've been caught off guard, but she was still a Goddess. And she was still armed. She reached for the knife that was sheathed on her leg and pulled it out. She stabbed Orion in his chest.
The blow surprised him, giving Artemis the upper hand to push him off of her and back away quickly. Orion pulled the knife from his chest and dropped it on the ground. His wound leaked ichor. "Nice try, darling. But I'm a Gigante. You need a demigod to kill me."
Artemis's eyes widened. She drew her bow and fired a couple of arrows. They hurt Orion, but they didn't kill him. He trudged towards her, ichor flowing from every wound.
Suddenly, Orion went rigid. A silver point coated in gold had erupted through Orion's chest, right where his heart was. He groaned and fell face first. Behind him was Percy, holding a bow like he had just fired. As in, he didn't put his arm back down when he fired.
Artemis stared at him in shock, before looking down at Orion's dead corpse. Artemis then looked at the bow he held closely. It was golden and shone like the sun. Percy slung the bow over his shoulder. "You okay?" He asked.
Artemis nodded. She stepped forward and gave Percy a hug. He hugged her back.
"Thank you." She whispered to him.
Percy would later discard of Orion's body by cutting it into pieces and sacrificing them to Apollo in thanks for the bow.
LINE BREAK
"Thank you, Tangela." Percy said, wiping his hand through the iris message. The rainbow mist dissolved as Percy sat down. The two Gigantes who had kidnapped Ares, Ephialtes and Otis were in their area. Not only that, but they were prophesied to kill each other. Which means they couldn't be killed like Orion.
He sighed as he stood up. He walked into the Hunt's camp and searched for Artemis. He went to her tent and knocked on the wooden post outside.
"Come in." Artemis's voice called from inside.
Percy entered the tent. His charge was sitting on the floor, a deer resting its head on her lap. She was stroking the creature's neck.
"You look troubled." She commented upon seeing Percy's face.
"I am."
"What's wrong?"
"Do you remember those gigantes who kidnapped Ares?"
She nodded. "What about them?"
"They've been seen in the area. Tangela told me."
"Okay, so we kill them. Not that bad. We've done it before."
Percy grimaced. "Apparently, they can only be killed by each other. So… yeah."
Artemis frowned. She continued to pet the deer. "I have an idea. Be ready to go hunting in five minutes."
Ten minutes later, the pair stood in the woods. "Artemis, I'm sorry, but that is a terrible idea. The odds of it working are like, a million to zero. The odds of you getting hurt are like, a billion to one. I don't want another Chimera incident."
"It'll work, trust me." She said, rolling her eyes.
They had found the gigantes' camp for the night. They were both fast asleep.
Artemis turned into a deer and Percy sighed. He climbed a tree and pulled out his bow. He didn't like this, but who was he to argue with Artemis? His Guardian actually. Supposed to keep her out of danger, but whatever.
Deer Artemis stepped on a twig, waking the gigantes. They grabbed their spears and looked at the deer that had wandered into their camp.
"Otis? Am I dreaming, or does that deer have silver antlers?" Ephialtes asked his brother.
"I'm seeing it too. I want it." Otis responded.
"No, I want it."
"Well, I guess whoever kills it first gets it."
They leveled their spears at it and threw at the same time. Before the spears hit her, Artemis jumped out of the way. The brothers raised their eyebrows before the spears struck their hearts.
They fell to the ground. Artemis turned back into her human form and stared at him. "What'd you say? A million to zero?"
Percy rolled his eyes and smiled. He jumped down from the tree. "Okay, so I was wrong."
Artemis smiled and looked at her handiwork. Percy however heard something he had never heard before. He started to walk to the tree line and was met with something he had never seen before.
Water met with sand. The water would come up on the sand and go back, making a nice relaxing sound.
"Percy?" Artemis asked from behind him. "What's happening?"
Percy looked around. "I–I don't know. But I like this place."
Artemis looked around. "The beach?"
"Yeah. If that's what it's called."
"Yeah."
"I feel relaxed here. It's nice."
Artemis noticed that he did look relaxed. "We don't have to go back to the camp yet." She said softly. "We could stay here for a little bit."
Percy nodded and walked towards the water. He didn't step into it, deciding to sit in the sand. The water came up to meet his feet but missed by a couple of inches.
Artemis sat next to him. She looked at him and noticed that he had a smile on his face as he gazed out to the sea. She was happy to see him enjoying himself. He had done so much for her, gone through so much for her, it was nice to see him happy with something he wanted to do.
The crescent moon in the sky had never shined so bright before.
A/N. WHOA, what a big chapter! I did not intend this chapter to be so massive, but I digress. This chapter, I wanted to show some snapshots from Percy and Artemis's past. Show their relationship and stuff. I also wanted to explore Percy's job as Guardian. What happens when he fails. And so I explored it. The answer? He's brutal. This is where I think his name really suits him. Avenger/Destroyer. Y'know? If he can't protect Artemis, you can be damn well sure he'll avenge her, and make sure he destroys whoever caused it.
Also, you might notice, Orion wasn't placed in the stars. That is intentional. There is no Orion constellation in the sky in this universe. So, yeah.
Thank you once again to Zaeng_ for beating this for me. I know it's late at night lol!
