Julie's POV
Julie woke from a groggy slumber, groaning as her head cleared. The last thing she remembered was Caleb dispersing a yellow fog around the garage when they wouldn't give him what he wanted. The fog had stung where it touched her skin, surrounding them before they could react, choking them and eventually knocking them out.
Now Julie was sitting up, unaware of how long it had been or where Caleb went. She felt weird, different, like her body wasn't her own. When she opened her eyes to see herself sitting across from her, she screamed.
When the scream came out in a slightly deeper pitch, and she stood up on long legs, she screamed again. Julie stared at her pale hands and the leather jacket she was wearing.
She was in Reggie's body.
And she was watching her body stand up across from her.
Julie's body looked at Julie and they both screamed. And then whoever was in Alex and Luke's bodies joined in. They all yelled and pointed at each other in a bout of horror and confusion.
"What's going on?" Alex yelled, though she suspected it wasn't really him when he also said, "I'm so tall."
"Yeah and I'm so short." Luke quipped with a sort of disgust that only the real Alex could muster.
"Hey, I'm not that short!" Julie stared in horror at herself. Luke was in her body.
Alex said "Yeah, you really can't say that right now," at the same time that Julie pushed Luke and said, "ugh, get out of me!"
"Everyone just stop for a minute! Let's figure out who's who first." Reggie-Alex proposed. "Woah, I think being in this body is making me reasonable."
"Okay I'm Julie." She pointed to herself and then Luke's body.
"Alex." He waved awkwardly.
It was incredibly weird to see herself swing her arms and say, "Luke."
"Reggie. Hey." Reggie-Alex smiled like he was introducing himself for the first time.
"Ugh, do I always look that awkward?" Alex-Luke asked no one in-particular.
"Wait, what happens if one of us needs to pee?" Reggie-Alex asked the question that only he would think of.
"You are not peeing while in my body." Julie pointed at Luke threateningly. "But that's beside the point. We need to figure out how to find Caleb and get him to switch us back, since this is obviously his doing."
"Yeah, yeah, all in good time Julie-me." Reggie-Alex smirked. "But don't you wanna play around just a little bit first? I mean it is literally the opportunity of a lifetime to experience someone else's life."
"Technically its still our own lives Reg." Alex pointed out.
"Not the point. Julie," he gave her puppy dog eyes, "just let us have like ten minutes to be immature."
Julie considered him for a moment before conceding. Honestly she was curious to what she could do since she was technically a ghost now. She also definitely needed to get used to how it felt to be a guy.
The guys immediately started goofing around, jumping up and down or slapping each other to see how it felt to slap their own faces. She watched Luke-Julie cross his arms before uncrossing them with an intrigued glance at his chest. His face was mildly amused as he kept doing it until he caught her eye and lowered his arms to his side awkwardly. Julie rolled her eyes in exasperation.
Alex was feeling his face when he said, "Wait, can I do the look now?"
"What look?"
"I'm gonna make Luke fall in love with himself, hold on."
He walked over to Luke-Julie, taking a breath and collecting himself before breaking out that stare and grin that usually made Julie melt. Then he bit his lip, and smiled broadly, looking Luke up and down.
Luke stared at him with the craziest look on his face before saying, "damn, that was hot. But you did the first part wrong-"
Julie watched the unsettling scene of them making faces at each other play out. When Alex-Luke started flexing and Luke-Julie felt his arms and she decided that she'd had enough.
"Okay that's enough joking around. Let's make a plan on how to switch back."
She ignored Reggie when he said, "it is weird seeing myself make sense."
In that moment Willie skated up her driveway, flipping the skateboard up into his hand and walking into the garage. She suddenly remembered what Alex had said about having a date with him that afternoon, and she was so grateful he had shown up.
"Oh! Hey babe!" Alex-Luke bounded over to Willie, hugged him, and kissed him on the cheek.
Willie held him at arms length, flashing a confused glance at what was usually Alex. "Um, hey, Luke..."
"Oh, no. I'm Alex." He chuckled. "Caleb swapped our bodies."
"And actually, maybe you could help us?" Luke-Julie added. She noticed how he made her very animated and energetic, like he normally was.
"Wait, seriously? I've only seen him do that once before. He must really not like you guys."
"Yeah no kidding." Reggie said. "He put me in Alex's body. No offense man."
"Uhh-a little taken."
"So Willie, do you know where Caleb might be? Because we would really like our bodies back." Julie said.
"Yeah! Um, I can take you to the hotel, but no guarantees. The only other place I know that he might be is a club that he advertises at downtown, so that's our second option." He pointed to them. "And, who's who?"
They explained, thought it took Willie a moment to memorize. Julie didn't blame him, she was still trying to remember.
While Julie was texting her dad that they were going out for ice cream, Luke said, "so since I'm in Julie's body, does that mean I don't have any powers? And would it really be safe to use our powers to get into the hotel? Since Julie's never done it before?"
"It can't be that hard to poof right?" Julie tucked her phone in her back pocket, before cringing because she was technically touching Reggie's butt.
The guys agreed that it hadn't taken them that long to learn, explaining how to conjure up and hone in on a sort of tingly gut feeling. It took her a moment to pinpoint it, but when she did, she found that poofing didn't feel any different than when the guys did it with her. Except for the fact that when she meant to poof to the other side of the room, she ended up poofing on the ceiling, and crashing down to the floor.
"AHH! My face!" Reggie-Alex ran over to her, grabbing her head in his hands. "Are you okay?"
Julie groaned. The impact definitely hurt just as bad as it would've had she been alive.
"I don't think anything's broken," She sat up slowly, "but I'm definitely not doing that again."
The friends decided to let Willie lead them into the hotel through a hidden back door. The only downfall is that they'd have to walk the whole way. They weren't off to a good start when Luke-Julie walked right into the garage door.
"Careful!" Julie cautioned him.
He glared at the door like it was a personal problem while rubbing his face.
"Calm down, I'll be careful with your body." He paused. "Don't let me say that again."
"Julie!" Ray was walking down the path to them as they left the garage. Julie glanced at Luke-Julie nervously, who was obviously freaking out.
"Oh! Hey dad." He couldn't have been more awkward about it. "What's up?"
"I have to run out to a shoot in a minute so I was just checking in on you guys. You're going downtown right?"
"Yep. Actually, Ra-dad, are you, by chance heading in that direction? Because a ride would be awesome."
"Yeah I'll be in that area and I don't see why not. Are you ready?"
The band gathered the few things they needed, agreeing to meet Willie at the ice cream shop, and piled into the car.
Julie didn't know when they unanimously decided not to tell Ray about the swap, but they kept up the act of different identities, which ended up in some nerve-wracking conversations of Ray asking Luke-Julie about school and Flynn and him having to come up with random answers.
Ray dropped them off at the ice cream shop, and of course, Reggie actually made them get ice cream first. They were walking down the street with Willie when Julie noticed that Alex-Luke was missing.
Just then he ran past them comically while yelling, "this feels so weird!"
"Please stop man!" Luke begged him.
When they got to the hotel Willie had to phase through the door to open it on the other side. They snuck through into a dark, cold room. Goosebumps rose on her arms and she pulled her jacket tight. Of course she knew the place was literally haunted, but she didn't expect it to feel that way. It was creepy.
After several long hallways and winding staircases they entered what Julie imagined was the show room. She was looking around when she realized the guys had stopped, and we're tense, staring at something.
Caleb was sitting on the stage, studying his nails.
"I was wondering when you'd show up."
This was a more comedy oriented one-shot and less about the story telling (don't worry, they get their bodies back), so that's why it was mainly dialogue.
It was fun to write though, and most of it came to me in the moment.
Did y'all find this funny or is my sense of humor just broken?
