Occasion- Spring Break 2020

Context- Ray's family comes to the Molina's house to visit over the kid's spring break and it is very entertaining. The family goofs around, listens to Julie and the Phantoms play, goes to the beach, and just has a fun family vacation. Julie's Abuela, however, is always watching the guys, especially Luke, constantly suspicious of the boys living there. (The guys are still ghosts and can be seen and touched by everyone but can also turn invisible to everyone but Julie when they want to.)

Julie's POV

"Dad they're here!" Carlos yelled, looking out the kitchen window.

As Ray and Carlos ran outside to help Julie's grandma, aunts, uncle, and cousins inside for their week long vacation, Julie panicked a little.

"Okay, guys? You remember the rules right?" She asked her band, who were sitting around the kitchen table. "Reggie, you remember the rules?"

"No use of any ghostly abilities, no talking about being ghosts, no inappropriate jokes about you and Luke..."

"That's about half of them but good enough." Julie brushed her sweaty palms against her jeans. "And um, my abuela is really old fashioned, so she's not going to take you guys living here very well, much less Luke and I dating, so just don't really talk about it and try to be patient with her. She's really sweet when you get to know her, she just has to kind of judge you first."

"Julie we're going to be fine." Alex consoled her.

"Yeah, we've dealt with a lot of judgmental grandmas over the years," Luke squeezed her hand, "especially in book club."

She gave them a grateful smile before shooting over to the door to help Carlos and her Abuela inside.

"Oh! Look at you my sweet Julie, ven aquí!" She pulled her into a hug, kissing her cheek.

Julie's Abuela was a squatty little woman, with braids that ran past her waist, and big, bright blue eyes that seemed to catch everything. She was already staring at the guys when Julie said, "hola Wela, how have you been?"

"Oh I'm good mija, I'm very good." She turned back to Julie, beaming and holding her at arms length. "And look at you! So grown up and beautiful! And not to mention talented! I saw your video on the YouTube, you and your band are muy muy bien. And, this must be them? I didn't realize they would be here."

"Uh, yes they stay in the garage-" she told her quickly as more family entered the house. Grateful for the distraction, Julie said, "and I will introduce you in just a minute. I'm going to help tío."

Her uncle in question was Ian, a giant of a man that dwarfed even her dad. However, his 'quick to smile' personality, and dark, shining eyes made him seem more like a teddy bear than a body guard. He swept Julie up into a hug when she tried to take his suitcase, lifting her off her feet and broadcasting how much he'd missed her.

His wife Lydia, who stumbled in after him, was a near opposite. She was shorter than Julie and always looking at people over her glasses. Their two twin girls, Valentina and Sofia, were ten years old and skinny as could be, already taking their dad's height. The last member of their little family was baby Mateo, who Julie had never met but was quickly falling in love with as he giggled at her when she talked to him.

Next was Julie's aunt Camila. She had taken the darker featured traits in the family and still looked ten years younger than she was because of her large ice blue eyes. Her son Luis, who was maybe a couple of years older than Carlos, and who had finally grown into his ears, skipped in after her. Last inside, just before Ray and Carlos, was Camila's sixteen year old daughter and Julie's favorite cousin Elena. She smiled radiantly at Julie when they saw each other, and she dropped her bags to give her a hug as the rest of the family streamed into the kitchen.

"Ahh, I missed you so much Jules!" Elena was the only other person besides Flynn and now Luke who called her by that nickname.

"I missed you too!" They pulled away from the hug. "It's been way too long."

"It has," her eyes widened when she looked past Julie and spotted the guys, "and obviously a lot has changed because you have three very attractive boys standing in your kitchen. And you said you're dating one of them right?"

Julie laughed, having forgotten how on top of everything Elena always was.

"Yeah, Luke." She gestured to where he was leaning against the bar, smiling at Reggie, who seemed to be telling Uncle Ian an elaborate story.

Elena gasped, throwing Julie an outrageous look. "That's your boyfriend? The guy rightfully wearing a muscle shirt? And your dad lets him live here?"

"Yeah it's a...weird situation. The whole band just kind of fell into my life." She chuckled at her own pun.

"You have got to be the luckiest girl alive. I mean, look at them! Is it bad that I'm already in love with the guy wearing a leather jacket?"

"Yeah that's Reggie. Don't let him pick up on any hint of attraction because he will be on you like white on rice."

She tucked her hair behind her ear deviously, "I mean, I wouldn't be complaining."

The girls giggled before Julie was summoned by Abuela to finally introduce the band. She hurried over and introduced them to her family and then her family to them in turn. When everyone settled into their different conversations she decided it'd be better to get it over with and grabbed Luke, dragging him over to her grandmother.

Abuela gave him a disapproving look at first but Julie guessed that because she loved her, she decided not to immediately run him out of the house when she introduced him as her boyfriend. Instead she said, "¿Así que este es tù novio? Èl es mucho guapo, yo admito, pero no me gusta su camisa."

Luke sent Julie a slightly concerned look, understanding Abuela's tone but none of what she just said. She tried to give him a reassuring smile as her grandma practically roasted him.

Then in English, she finally said, "I hope you are good to my granddaughter, because she is a girl too good for most, and choosing you means you must either be good too, or very lucky. And you will stay out of her bedroom. If you don't I will beat you with my chancla until you fall out of the window."

"Trust me ma'am I know how great Julie is, and I would never hurt her in any way." Luke grinned, and Julie was impressed that he was keeping his cool. "I would also never go in her bedroom." He lied.

Abuela seemed charmed by his smile and pleased enough by his words, so she nodded at him and squeezed Julie's arm before moving over to Ray.

Luke made a scared noise and turned to Julie. "That was terrifying."

"At least I'm so great and totally worth it right?" Julie teased.

"Yeah, I guess so." He gave her a small smile and flicked his eyes up to the ceiling jokingly, laughing when she pushed him.

Julie had to slip closer to him as Carlos and Luis raced past her. While she watched them thunder up the stairs on the way to Carlos's room Luke leaned down and whispered, "I think your cousins are staring at me."

She glanced at his amused expression before leaning forward to see Valentina and Sofia giggling at him in the corner of the room. Julie was quickly finding out that they were already boy crazy because she overheard them fighting over Luke as soon as they saw him. Unable to keep the fleeting smile from crossing her face, she caught their eyes and beckoned them to come closer. The girls reddened noticeably, and bickered for a moment, but eventually shuffled over.

Julie first reached out and hugged them, not having seen them in almost two years. She backed up, sweeping her arm wide, "girls, you haven't officially met him but this is my boyfriend and band mate, Luke."

Their faces fell at the word boyfriend but they went right back to blushing when he said "what's up," and fist bumped them.

They were apparently bolder than Julie thought as well, because all of a sudden they were hitting him with rapid fire questions like, "how old are you," and, "why do you live here?" One in particular was, "why are you dating Julie?" Which she took offense to.

Lydia eventually called them away, thank god, and Luke said, "aw, they remind me of you."

"What? Please, I was never flat out awestruck by your presence. If anything it was the other way around."

"You do awe-strike me all the time." He winked and she laughed. "Also, I like how you have to say 'this is my boyfriend' every time you introduce me."

She smirked, "I'm sure you do."

A little crease formed between his eyebrows as he scanned the room, and Julie understood what he was worried about when she noticed that Alex and her Abuela seemed to be having an intense conversation.

"You don't think she would judge him, do you?" Luke asked.

His question was answered when Alex joined them and said, "Julie your grandma is my new best friend. We are basically the same person, we agree on so much. And we both love making fun of Luke."

"Is that what she was doing earlier?" Luke gave Julie a betrayed look.

Julie was saved by Ray, who announced that the pizza they were having for dinner had arrived. Everyone chipped in for the bill, Carlos and Luis were called downstairs, and they all scattered around the kitchen and living room, having a huge and fun family dinner.

After dinner it was already late, so everyone began to retire to their assigned bedrooms. Luis and Carlos were in Carlos's room, Uncle Ian, Lydia, and their kids were sleeping in the guest room, Aunt Camila and Abuela were sharing Ray's king sized bed, and Ray was sleeping in Julie's room. Julie had offered Ray her room in exchange for the opportunity for her and Elena to sleep in the garage with the guys. Ray didn't mind of course, and neither did Camila, but her Abuela was on the verge of forbidding it before Carlos had an awesome brother moment and stepped in with a family picture album.

The girls had Luke, Alex, and Reggie help them bring their bags and piles of blankets and pillows into the garage. The twins, who continued to complain about not being allowed to stay with them, helped them set up a huge blanket fort in the loft. Julie and Elena allowed the girls to stay with them to play some games, but were more than ready to have 'older girl talks' by the time Lydia was calling them inside.

They were gossiping about girl things, meaning mostly boys and Julie's relationship, when Alex climbed up the ladder.

"Hey guys," he crawled into the fort, "Luke and Reggie are being annoying, per usual, so can I join?"

"Of course!" They both scooted over and patted the blanket between them. Julie knew that the guys slept in different places around the garage, Luke usually on his couch, Reggie anywhere that he could fall asleep, and Alex most often in the loft. She told Alex that they didn't mind if he stayed up there with them anyways, and that she knew how annoying the others could be.

"So..." he whispered awkwardly, and they all laughed.

"So, Julie and I were talking about guys, of course, so you have to spill. You got anyone special?" Elena inquired.

Alex glanced at Julie hesitantly, and she gave him an encouraging smile.

"Well, I'm dating this guy named Willie..."

For the next ten minutes Alex talked about his apparently exciting love life, having to stop here and there to fudge the ghostly details. Luckily for Julie, no one seemed be suspicious about exactly how and why the guys became a band with her, they had just accepted the fact that they were there and welcomed them as part of the family, so Elena didn't ask any questions pertaining to that.

Julie had been subconsciously listening to Luke strum on his guitar downstairs, comforted by the familiarity, before realizing that it had stopped. Then the ladder began to creak and the remaining boys were in the loft.

"There was too much giggling up here and we're nosey, so we're invading your personal space." Reggie grinned proudly.

"Ugh, no! Get out!" Alex threw a pillow that promptly smacked Luke in the face.

"Oh come on, we know you're talking about us." Reggie smirked at Elena, who pretended to be unamused.

Luke placed Alex's pillow in Julie's lap, laying his head on it and smiling up at her. Frankly, she hadn't been able to spend time with him since everyone had gotten there, so she didn't want to kick him out. Instead, she played with his hair and pretended like she couldn't see the look Alex was giving her.

They all joked, bickered, and laughed until two in the morning, when Julie decided that it was time for bed with everyone falling asleep anyways. She helped Luke wake up Reggie, who had fallen asleep on Elena's shoulder, coaxing him out of the fort and downstairs.

They were standing at the top of the ladder after Reggie had gone down. Since eyes weren't directly on them for the first time in hours he slipped his hand behind her head and kissed her. Julie wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him back, a little longer than necessary. She felt deprived after not being able to even stand too close to him around her grandma. His hands rested on her back, and he murmured "g'night," as he pecked her lips one more time before reluctantly pulling away.

As soon as Julie slipped back into the fort, Elena said, "you stand up on your toes to kiss him? That is the cutest thing ever."

"Yeah, not when they kiss twenty hours a day, with the other four spent on staring into each other's eyes." Alex quipped.

Julie snorted, giving him a look before settling under the covers between the two. They talked on and off for another few minutes slowly drifting off into sleep.

This is part one of what I think will be a three part one-shot, so get ready for some more Molina family. It's funny writing this because Abuela is the opposite of my grandma, who thinks that Luke Patterson is the finest man to walk the earth (which he is).

And, disclaimer, if I ever mess up on any of the Spanish, I apologize. I am relying on two years of classes in high school and SpanishDict, haha.
