Hey everybird! What's up!?
So I decided to get a headstart on this year's Christmas story!
As you all know, every Christmas time, I always put out a short story, to help celebrate the holiday and end of the year!
And this year will be a recreation of my most favorite Christmas storie from my childhood and well my most favorite Christmas movie ever, The Polar Express! Now this story will be mostly based on the book, with some inspiration from the movie. Trust me if I had the time, I would do the movie, but it would just take too long!
Anyway, lets get started!
Chapter 1: A Magical Train
(Blu's POV)
On Christmas Eve, many years ago, I lay quietly in my bed. I did not rustle the sheets. I breathed slowly and silently… I was listening for a sound… A sound that I knew would never come, the ringing bells of Santa's sleigh. I did not believe in Santa, unlike my little sister, how he could ever deliver presents to every single kid in the world in one night… It was impossible, if he even existed in the first place.
I did hear some talking as I saw the shadows of my father as I crept to my door, looking through the creek in it to see my little sister, along with my dad and mom.
"And he says that his sleigh has to be as big as an ocean liner…" I heard my sister talking to my dad.
"Did he really say that?" My dad asked.
"He said he wasn't sure, that he's not real." My little sister complained.
"Of course Santa's real, just like us sweetie." My dad said happily, but I knew it was a lie.
"But he won't come if you're not sleeping young lady." My mother reminded my sister.
"Santa's coming, so go to sleep." My dad whispered before closing the bedroom door.
I stepped back, thinking about the little conversation, but I couldn't think for long as I heard my parents come to my door and start to turn the doorknob. I quickly hurried to my bed, throwing myself in and pretending to be asleep, making sure my back was turned to the door.
"Oh look, he's already asleep." My dad said.
"He used to stay up all night for Santa." My mom sounding a little sad.
"I guess those days are just about over." My dad replied.
"That would be sad if it's true." My mom agreed.
"Yeah, the end of the magic." My dad sighed as I opened my eyes wide, luckily my parents didn't see me.
"Goodnight sweetie." My mom told me as she gave me a kiss on the cheek as I closed my eyes again and then heard my parents start to leave.
"He's out like a light, an express train wouldn't wake him." My dad telling my mom as my door closed and I could relax.
"The end of the magic…" I repeated in my head.
As I laid there for what seemed like hours, but what was in fact only a few minutes, I began to hear a rumble in the distance… I was confused as I began to get up as the sound grew louder and louder. Soon enough the darkness of the night turned into a blinding light show as then a very loud whistle sounded. I recognized it as a train whistle and wondered why no one else seemed to hear it.
Without another thought, I rushed out of the house, onto the snowy ground outside stopping as I saw, not a regular train as I always see, but an old fashioned steam locomotive, with old style passenger cars lined up behind it. It was impossible for this to be here, it was a road, there were no train tracks here before. I slowly stepped up, thinking this was all in my head, but when I touched the cold metal surface of one of the cars, it was real as can be.
"All abroad!" A voice sounded as I jumped up, being surprised as I looked in the direction of the voice to see a man standing in one of the entrances of cars, I walked up to him to see it was the conductor. "Well, you coming?" The conductor asked.
"Where?" I asked nervously, not sure if I wanted to come on.
"Why, to the North Pole of course!" He gave a shout.. "This is the Polar Express!"
I still wasn't sure… How could a train make a trip all the way to the North Pole without any obstacles or difficulties… But than again… There shouldn't be a train here in the first place…
Also… This could all be a dream and I could in fact still be sleeping in my bed, but it felt so real… With some hesitation at first, I decided to come abroad as the conductor helped me in.
Inside there were other kids around my age, all excited for the trip up north, chanting and chatting along themselves as I eventually found an empty seat, quickly sitting down and staying silent. However I felt an uneasiness as I looked to my side to see a Blue macaw girl with light blue feathers staring at me. I didn't say anything back, finding it a little unsettling to have that kind of attention as I felt the locomotive start up again and the train began to roll down the tracks.
Soon enough, I couldn't just stay quiet as I turned to the girl just looking at me as I asked her…
"Are we really going to the North Pole?" I shot her the important question.
"Uh huh." She nodded her head in excitement. "Isn't that great?"
It didn't sound that great to me, but my thoughts were turned to the conductor as he took a microphone and spoke into it.
"Attention, are there any Polar Express passengers in need of refreshment?" The conductor asked as all the kids, well except for me, all raised their wings and shouting, "Me, me, me!" "I thought so." The conductor saying as he opened the door…
And the train's servers all came out and well… Made a show of it, singing and dancing along the space between the two rows of seats as they set up our seats, turning them around and setting tables for us to drink on. As that was set up, the chefs then came out, with huge boiling pots of hot chocolate and carts with towers of frosted cookies. Serving them in style as hot chocolate flew up into the air and down into our cups.
I took a sip of my drink and well… I hated to admit it, but it was the best tasting liquid chocolate, so rich and creamy as the warm liquid went down my throat. I ended up drinking several full cups, along with plenty of cookies with it. Soon enough the show ended and the chefs returned to what I assumed to be the kitchen car as the serves then returned our seats to their normal positions, before they joined the chefs as well.
The conductor was the last to leave as he grew us a tip of his hat before going, leaving us to enjoy our full bellies. Outside, the Polar Express continued to make its trek up north, passing by brightly lit towns, which grew smaller in size with each mile traveled. Soon enough, the train left the towns behind it as we cut through hills, then mountains as thick forests surrounded us.
Even still, I truly wondered if we were really going to the North Pole…
And I'll leave it there for next time!
I hope you enjoyed the first chapter of this year's Christmas story!
Can't wait to get to the next chapter! Until than…
See everybird later!
