And now onto the story!
Chapter 4: I Still Believe
Traveling back down from the North Pole, the Polar Express reached my house, running down the tracks on the street as I wasn't surprised that no one came running out of their houses in shock to see an express train right outside. However my mind was still mostly on losing my gift from Santa as the Polar Express slowed down to a stop. Getting up from my seat, I first went up to the light blue feathered girl.
"I'm sorry about the bell, it was a really special gift." The girl comforting me.
"Yeah…" I sighed. "I never got your name…" I realized.
"It's Jewel." Jewel getting up from her seat and then giving me a hug.
"Blu." I gave my name as we separated from the hug. "Well… See ya…"
"See ya." Jewel smiled at me as I began to exit the train car, stepping down as I met the conductor, who was waiting for me.
"Watch your step." The conductor advised me as I carefully went down before looking up at him.
"Thank you." I told him.
"No!" The conductor replied loudly. "Thank you." He lowered his voice as I began to walk to my house, but the conductor continued speaking. "One thing about trains, it doesn't matter where you're going, what matters is to get on." The conductor said to me before returning up the steps of the train car I exited.
I walked back inside my house, opening the door to find that it was still unlocked as I have left it, so my family didn't wake up wondering where I was. Before I could close the door again with me inside, I heard the conductor's voice above the sound of the Polar Express starting to chug down the tracks.
"What!?" I shouted loudly to the conductor as he then cupped his wings around his beak to make his voice louder.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS!" He yelled out before taking his wings from around his beak and giving me a wave as the Polar Express then let out a loud whistle, soon enough disappearing from view.
I closed the door as things grew quiet once more, I quietly went back up to my room, closing my bedroom door as I went back to sleep like nothing happened…
"Wake up, wake up, wake up!" I heard my sister as she was shaking me in my bed, it was morning as I felt like no time has passed. "Santa's been here, Santa's been here! Mom! Dad! Hurry up! Hurry up!" My sister said, all excited as I rushed to join in.
In just a couple of minutes, I was in the living room where the Christmas tree was, opening presents with my sister, there was even a model train running around, which looked oddly similar to the Polar Express. There were so many presents that I thought we had opened them all, but I missed one as my sister found a small unopened box which was hidden to me.
"Wait, there's one more." My sister said. "It has your name on it." My sister showing me the box as I gently took it from her, unwrapping the ribbon as I then took off the lid of the box…
My heart skipped a beat seeing what was inside as I reached for it with a wing, pulling it out to see it was the silver bell which had fallen from my ripped hole in my bathrobe. I gave it a ring as it still made the beautiful sound I had heard from last night as I passed it to my sister, who also heard the sound from it.
Looking back inside the box, there was a small note as I took it out and read it…
"Found this on the seat of my sleigh. Better fix that hole in our pocket.
Signed, Mr. C."
I put down the note again as. I once more rang the bell as it was real alright, a sound that I would never get tired of listening to.
"Oh what a beautiful bell, who's it from?" My mother asked me as she came inside the living room.
"Santa." I answered in confidence as I handed my mother the bell.
"Santa?" My mother replied, in a tone that told me right away she didn't believe as she rung the bell, but there was no sound. "Oh…" My mother surprised the bell didn't work.
"What's this?" My dad said as he joined us, standing besides my mother as he took the bell and rang it, no surprise when it made no sound for him either. "Broken… Sorry about that sport." My dad handing me back my bell as my parents turned and began to leave as I rang the bell, still working for me of course.
"Come on kids, we're going to be late." I heard my mom call for my sister and I as my sister got up, but I stayed behind for a few more seconds, gently placing the bell on the table as I looked at it for a second more before joining my family…
There was one time most of my friends could hear the bell, but as years passed, it fell silent for all of them. Even my sister found one Christmas she couldn't hear its sweet sound… Though I've grown old, the bell still rings for me as it does for all who truly believe.
The End.
And that's a wrap on another Christmas story! A bit shorter than I thought it would be, but I hope, again, you enjoyed it.
And again, happy holidays and looking forward to a happy new year!
See everybird later!
