Better Together

Chapter 16

Christine smiled at how the girls were fussing over Mike. They had finally gotten him home and she could tell he was exhausted but was humoring his daughters. Audrey was cuddled up to him and was showing him drawings that she had done. After the third yawn, Christine knew Mike needed to rest.

"Okay, girls. Your dad needs to rest. Lets give him a bit." Christine said. Audrey jumped off the bed after giving Mike a kiss. Hannah and Katie also gave him a kiss on the cheek and all three left the room.

"Thanks." Mike said.

"I could tell you were giving out. The trip home was a bit much for you, wasn't it?" Christine asked as she helped Mike settle into bed.

"It was but I am glad to be here." Mike remarked.

"I am glad you are too." Christine said. She bent down and gave Mike a long kiss.

"Can you sleep in here with me tonight? I can't do anything but I sure would like you to be in here." Mike asked.

"I think that can be arranged. We might end up with Audrey though. She likes coming in about four am." Christine said.

"I wouldn't mind that." Mike said.

"Good. Get some rest. Your phone is right here but can you yell for me too. I'll be downstairs so I should hear you." Christine told him.

"Thank you." Mike said simply. Christine gave him another kiss before leaving the room.

Several times throughout the afternoon, she peeked in and Mike was sleeping. Christine had to admit, she felt better having him there and she could tell the girls were feeling better about it. Although it was much too soon, she was looking forward to their date.

A lot of people thought she was insane for taking care of her ex-husband and Christine knew that she was falling back in love with Mike. But, with Mike she felt safe and secure. She just had to figure out if that was why she was in love with him or if it was because she really did love him. And she absolutely didn't want to destroy the best friendship she had. She hoped Mike would be willing to take things slow. She also had to decide if she wanted to take things slow. It was all so confusing.
