Warning: Some spoilers are ahead for Sailor Moon Defenders Volume 7, Volume 8 and Volume 9 or Volume 10. Just a heads up there.

Chapter One

Krotan was laying on the bed of his new quarters. As part of his sentencing for trying to kill Rick Gordon and his other past crimes, he had two options: to be a part of the Defenders of the Earth or to go to jail.

It was the urging of three women who cared for him that made his decision: his mother Zyna, his sister Katarina and Jedda, who was queen of the Netherworld. He was happy to finally have been reunited with his mother and twin sister back on Mongo and wished he could have stayed with them. However, they both encouraged him to surrender to the Defenders of the Earth, Sailor Guardians and the Intergalatic Union Agency.

When the IUA put him on trial, he was given two options: either serve his sentence by joining the Defenders of the Earth or spend the rest of his life in prison. Despite being married to his long time rival Rick Gordon, Jedda still cared for Krotan albeit only as a friend. She made that perfectly clear to him while encouraging him to be a part of the Defenders.

He perked up and looked around the room, sensing a presence. "I know you are in here."

"I wasn't trying to hide." Usagi replied as she walked into the room. "As a matter of fact, I was sent here to see how you were doing."

"Why do you care?" Krotan scoffed, crossing his arms.

Usagi only looked at him in response. "Well, excuse me. It's just the way I am."

He got up from the bed and looked at her. It was nothing more than interesting that Usagi was the only other person who cared for him besides Jedda, Tori, his mother and his sisters, well Castra and Katarina anyways.

"I have to ask you something." Krotan said after a pause of silence.

"What's that?" Usagi asked.

"What makes you so positive?" he asked, his curiousity piqued. "What makes you see the good in people, including me?"

"I just do." she answered with a small smile. "Besides, we know your father is a tyrant and your sisters Sheila, Castra and Katarina have proven to be nothing like Ming and I think Aura isn't like him either. I think you can change too. I believe you are not like your father just as your sisters have proven."

"She's right, Krotan." Tori replied as she walked into the room. "Not all non humans and superhumans are like Ming and I think that there's good in you. Even if most of the others don't think so."

Krotan couldn't help but to wonder if this young woman had a crush on him. Then again, she wasn't like her bigot of a mother, hearing that she cut ties with her mother after she was imprisoned and took the last name Gordon, rather than her original last name, Elisonne.

"Usako."

Tori glanced over as Mamoru walked over to where the two young women were and gently touched Usagi's shoulders.

"Hi, Mamo." Usagi greeted her boyfriend.

"How's Krotan adjusting?" Mamoru asked.

"He's not too content in being here at the moment." Usagi answered.

"That's not a big surprise." he replied.

Tori perked over as Krotan was looking down at the floor. She could tell that he was feeling a bit down.

"Can you guys give us a minute?" she asked the couple next to her.

"Sure." Mamoru answered before he gently tapped Usagi's shoulder and the two left the area.

Tori walked into the room.

"Save the pity talk." Krotan glanced up at her. "I know that I have lost Jedda. She's now married to Rick Gordon, who is now King of the Netherworld. Not only that, my sister Sheila is also married to Flash Gordon, who is nemesis..."

"To your father. Come on now, it's not as bad as you think." Tori assured him. "I know you're disappointed but I'm sure you will find someone soon. Besides, didn't Jedda say that she is willing to be your friend?"

He started to become calm. "Yes, she did say that."

"What about Rick," she asked further, "What does he think of your friendship with Jedda?"

"He was reluctant but he didn't act too rude after he learned that we were just friends." he answered. "I am only hoping that as King of the Netherworld, Rick takes his new task seriously and takes good care of Jedda and their children."

"See there?" Tori assured him. "It'll be okay in the end. You can be sure of that, and Rick will be taking his new duty seriously. He did promise that. He also promised to keep Jedda and their kids safe."

Kortan looked down, staring at the floor.

"I just don't get why we couldn't just let Krotan rot in jail!" Makoto exclaimed, annoyed as she crossed her arms.

"He had that choice, you know." Rachel replied calmly. "As you know the Intergalatic Union Agency gave him the choice to join the Defenders or to go to jail."

She looked at Makoto and could tell that she wasn't content with Krotan being the newest member of the team.

"I actually agree with Makoto." Haruka stepped forward. "Krotan is not to be trusted, even if he is on this team."

"She's right." Michiru nodded in agreement. "We can't take chances here."

"That's because we know about what he had done to us in the past as well as what he had done to the Defenders in the past." Setsuna glanced at her team before looking at the others in the room. "And not only that, Krotan is Ming's son."

"Now hold on." Minako spoke up. "Sheila is also Ming's daughter and so are Castra, Aura and Katarina. Those Mongo princesses proven they could be trusted, well all except Aura anyways."

"Aura has a vibe about her which shows we can't really trust her." Setsuna replied.

"Sheila has proven to be trustworthy to us." Makoto added. "So has Castra and Katarina."

"We'll still need to keep an eye on them in the future." Michiru replied.

"I will have to agree." Haruka nodded in agreement.

Rachel winced at the three Outer Guardians. They weren't very trusting. She guessed they had that right to not trust Krotan because he was Ming's son and everything, at the same time, they didn't exactly trust her or Tori when they first became a part of the Defenders.

Suddenly, she felt her phone vibrate. She reached into her pocket and got out her phone and looked at the message. "This is interesting."

"What is it, Rachel?" Makoto asked.

"My agency just called." Rachel answered. "We're going to need to have everyone to meet at Monitor because this message is for all of us."

I didn't originally plan on having Krotan becoming a part of the Defenders of the Earth. After mapping out the events of either Volume Nine or Ten where the heroes are at Mongo, I felt compelled on having Krotan join the Defenders on these circumstances after seeing Kristina Graf be a member of DoE in "Dynasties". On a side note, Zyna and Katarina are not in this story but they are mentioned.

I think it might make some sense that Krotan might still be bitter over the fact that he had lost Jedda. Rest assured, he had nothing to worry about because Jedda, the twins and the Netherworld are all in good hands with Rick.
