The Ultimate Detective and The Ultimate Hope Gaiden: Naegiri Week 2022!
Day Two: Snooze!
Makoto yawned, his hazel-colored eyes cracking open. Rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, his vision cleared, revealing the still dark bedroom in their apartment, with light barely peeking through the window. His eyes wandered, drifting until they finally fell on his slumbering wife.
Kyoko… His lips tugged into a smile, seeing her peaceful smile as she lay curled up against him. It's so nice to see you smile, snoozing in bed without a care in the world. It used to be such a rare treat to wake up to this sight that I'd savor it whenever I could.
Moving his hand under the covers, he rested it against the mass of her swelled belly pressed against him. Grinning, he couldn't help but caress her abdomen and reflect on the effect her impending motherhood already had on her.
Ever since you became pregnant, I've been blessed with your snoozing state more and more. You deserve it, honey. You deserve to sleep in and get as much sleep as you want…
Makoto's thoughts were interrupted by the feeling of gentle movements from within Kyoko's womb. gently peeling back the blanket, he leaned his head towards her bump until his breath tickled her belly.
"Shh, shh, I'm glad you're happy to say good morning to me, baby, but you don't want to wake up Mommy, do you? She's taking such good care of you, carrying you in her belly until you're ready to come out and meet us properly. The least we can do is not interrupt her sleep, okay?"
Makoto let out a quiet sigh of relief as the movements subsided. Not wanting to chance rousing his content wife, he removed his hand from her baby bump.
I'm gonna make you some breakfast, okay, honey? Be back soon, I love you!
Makoto pressed a quick kiss to her belly before replacing the covers over her sleeping form. With Kyoko none the wiser, he quietly slid off the bed and tiptoed out of the room, closing the door behind him after sneaking one last look of admiration at her happily snoozing state.
Kyoko's nose twitched, a delectable aroma filling her nostrils. Her eyes fluttered open, the former detective roused from her slumber.
"Mm…" Her lips tugged into a smile as her mouth threatened to water. "That smells…delicious…"
A light chuckle attracted her attention. Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes and clearing her vision, she saw her husband standing at the side of the bed, plate of breakfast in hand.
"Ohayou, Kyoko."
"Makoto…"
Her cheeks flushed pink, touched by his considerate gesture no matter how many times she experienced it. Her stomach growled at the delectable fish, soup, rice, and pickles he had dutifully cooked for her. He handed the plate to her, handing the chopsticks to her.
"I woke up earlier, so I decided I'd cook you breakfast. Did I cook enough? You are eating for two, after all."
"I'm sure it's delicious…thank you, Makoto." Her lips tugged into a slight frown, worrying her husband before she assured him, "I'm still not used to sleeping in like this…I've always been the one to wake up before you…" Her lips tugged into a wistful smile. "I'd get to watch you sleep like a little boy, I'd be the one to cook for you…now it's like we've switched places. Now you're the one doing everything for me while I'm snoozing the day away…"
Makoto chuckled, scratching his cheek. "Is that really such a bad thing, though? You've worked so hard all your life…don't you deserve to rest on your laurels for a while?" Besides…neither of us will be able to rest for long once the baby comes…
Kyoko hummed before she nodded. "Alright, I'll try to take it easy, at least for the duration of this pregnancy." She turned to stare at her husband. "Just please tell me you cooked something for yourself."
Makoto's bashful smile made her sweat drop. She sighed and shook her head in amused disappointment.
"I suppose I should have expected as much, considering how selfless you are. Alright, you go and make something for yourself and I'll eat this wonderful breakfast. Go on, shoo, shoo."
Makoto laughed, feeling Kyoko nudge him with her foot from underneath the blankets. "Alright, alright, I'm going!"
Makoto's laughter echoed in her ears until he shut the door behind him. Shaking her head, she rested a hand on her belly.
"Please tell me you won't be as self-sacrificing as your father, alright?" She felt gentle movements from within her womb, causing her to dryly remark, "I'll take that as a yes…" She angled the chopsticks in her hand and looked down at the plate. "Well, bottoms up…"
She took a piece of fish and popped it in her mouth. She hummed in ecstasy, her lips stretching into a delighted smile.
"Gotta admit, your father works wonders in the kitchen…hopefully you have some semblance of taste in there…" She giggled, admitting, "If this is the tradeoff, I suppose relaxing for the next couple of months won't be so bad…"
Her muscles relaxing, she ate her breakfast with a little more gusto, looking forward to more mornings where she would be greeted by her husband's attentive, radiant smile. Though she could never quite grow used to being the last one to awaken from her snoozing, she had learned to appreciate the perks of their reversed roles.
