Day 2: Cork

A/N: This story is a continuation of Day 1: Team

New Year's Eve found Kurt in a much different mood than he had been in approximately ten days prior. Was it really only a week and a half ago that his holiday had been saved by Blaine's generous gift?

The trip home for Christmas had been wonderful. Burt and Carole were overjoyed to see him, and Kurt hardly less so. Sharing his round-trip flights with his very sweet, kind, and caring co-worker didn't hurt things, either.

Co-worker. The word seemed too cold and distant to describe Blaine now. Friend? That was probably closer, but Kurt felt that there was something more to be discovered between them. They had gone their separate ways once reaching Ohio – Kurt to Lima and Blaine to Westerville – and they hadn't met again until the flight home. As they collected their luggage at baggage claim, Kurt felt an overwhelming urgency to say something, anything, to Blaine. Without much thought, he blurted out, "What are you doing New Year's Eve?"

The pop of a cork stirred Kurt from his reverie and brought him back to his present surroundings – the small dining table at Blaine's apartment. It was New Year's Eve, and neither of them felt like braving the crowds or paying an exorbitant amount to dine at a restaurant, so they'd agreed to make a nice dinner together at Blaine's and spend the evening in.

"Are you sure you're okay with this?" Blaine asked, pouring some wine into Kurt's glass. "I feel bad not taking you someplace special for New Year's, especially," he paused, coloring slightly, "for our first date."

Kurt nodded his head, taking up his glass and clinking it gently against Blaine's in a silent toast before taking a sip. "I'm positive, Blaine. This is perfect. I'd much rather be here with you than out there with the hordes. Plus," he added hesitantly, "we can always go out for our second date," he offered.

"Absolutely," Blaine replied with a smile.

The stroke of twelve saw the two ringing out the old year with a dance, a kiss, and a promise of a very happy year to come.
