Rita and Lynn were overjoyed. This was their first Christmas as a family. Lynn was making a small breakfast of sausage patties and biscuits when Rita came down with their little baby girl Lori.
"Well, it's this one's first Christmas, how do you think we should celebrate, we have to do something special!" Rita said happily.
"Well, your parents are coming over in the afternoon, but I've got something very special!" Lynn announced. He got a small box, that had been wrapped with green paper. Rita handed the baby over to her husband so she could unwrap it. She knew the four month old wouldn't be able to unwrap the gift. It turned out to be a small ornament of an elephant that said: 'Baby's first Christmas.'
"Oh look Lori, look what Daddy got you!" the baby grabbed the bow that had been on the gift and placed it directly on her head, laughing. Her parents laughed as well.
"She loves it!" announced Rita who then hung the ornament on the tree.
"Y'know someday, we'll have so many ornaments, there might not be enough room on the tree!" said Lynn. They sat down on the couch, having breakfast. Lynn gave Rita a pair of earrings and they both gave their daughter a toy phone which she clearly enjoyed. Lynn received a pack of socks that had British imagery on them, he hugged his wife and kissed her on the cheek. Later, Albert came in with his wife, who started kissing her granddaughter as though there was no tomorrow.
While they were all in the living room with Christmas dinner cooking in the oven, Rita pulled a small present that she had clearly hidden in the tree and handed it to Lynn.
"This one's for you and Lori, but I wanted my parents here to see it," she explained.
"I don't understand," said Lynn.
"Well go on boy, open it!" laughed Albert as he held the baby in his arms. Lynn opened the gift and inside was a pregnancy test that clearly tested positive.
"Rita?" he asked, his eyes growing wide.
"You gave me an early Christmas gift without even knowing it! Now it's one I can share with everyone!" said Rita, her eyes brimming with tears of joy. Everyone there hugged her.
"How about that Lori, you're already going to be a big sister!" said Albert, Lori just smiled because everyone else was smiling. They called Lynn's dad who was celebrating Christmas with his fishing buddies at sea to tell him the good news, and he promised that once he came to shore, he'd try to stop by, to give everyone hugs in person.
"Just make sure you clean up the fishy smell!" joked Lynn
