PAW Patrol (TAF): The Anthro Files
Ultimate Rescue (Construction)
Pups Save a Roller Deby Bout

Chapter 1

The PAW Patrol was expanding quite nicely; Ryder had added his old pal, Al, to the group when the pups learned to be truck drivers, and Skye's long-lost cousin, Coral, became a member when the pups took to Puplantis to battle against Moby. Both pups met Ryder and the gang at the Lookout on this day, however, because the two had underwent the transformation of being able to switch back and forth between walking on all four legs and walking on two legs, just as the other pups could so. This was one effect from the second mighty meteor that had hit Adventure Bay; the first one is what made the pups all superheroes when the situation called for it. (Al and Coral didn't have superpowers at this point, but they could switch back and forth.) Note that Wild and the other Cats of the Cat Pack also had this ability, and Wild often performed stunts shows for the public as an anthro cat.

"I didn't know you pups could also do this," Coral commented, "because I woke up from a dream this morning and found I had the ability to do this."

"And I can do this, too," Al commented. "I still need my mini-jack to get up to my big truck, but driving the truck is easier this way than it is the other way."

"Did I ever tell you two the story about the two mighty meteors?" Ryder asked.

"Uh, no; I don't think so," said Al.

"Then let me do that; it proves that whatever happens to one pup happens to all pups in the PAW Patrol, and a select number of others, to." Ryder then went into detail about how the first meteor to hit Adventure Bay gave all the pups their superpowers, and how the second meteor gave them the ability to switch between four legs and two. The only thing the group hadn't figured out is why it was selective about which other animals got this ability and which ones didn't. Moby the mer-pup and Sid Swashbuckle's hench-pup, Arrby, did not have the ability to transform like this. However, Sweetie, pup to the Princess of Barkingburg, and the Ruff-Ruff Pack's members, Dwayne, Gasket, and Hubcap, were given this ability. (The pack was now down to two members because Hubcap fired Dwayne, but the Great Dane revealed he wanted out of the gang to start with; he just felt there was no way out because of how Hubcap ran everything.)

Everest, Tracker, Rex, and the twins (Tuck and Ella) were also present to show that it happened to them, and gave their input on the meteor's effects. "And so it seems if you are in the PAW Patrol," Everest concluded, "your inevitable destiny is that you gain the ability to switch like this."

"Some of the foods we eat are normally not suitable for dogs," Rubble added, "but when we turn into these anthro forms, it is easier to digest them. We still try to eat healthy, however." Then his stomach rumbled. "Oops. Excuse me, but my tummy seems to be having one of those moments right now."

The pups laughed, and Ryder added, "I guess it is about that time. I'll just do the regular kibble, though." He went to get some kibble, and the pups reverted to regular pups as they ate lunch. Al, however, opted out of this since he had another delivery to make.

"I had lunch already, but I thank you for the offer," he said. "I have to go make another delivery now. Ruff! Mini-jack!" His mini-jack expanded and allowed up him to reach the door to open it, and then he got inside his truck and waved goodbye. "See you pups on the open road! HONK, HONK!" He then honked his horn and drove off.

Meanwhile, Adventure Bay was preparing to host an unusual sporting event (to them because they weren't as familiar with it as they were with other sports): roller derby! Ms. Marjorie was an exception to the rule, however, for as she said to Mayor Goodway, "Believe it or not, I used to be quite the roller derby skater back in my day."

"You used to play this game?" Mayor Goodway exclaimed.

"BA-BUCK, BA-GURK!" Chickaletta clucked.

"Yes, I did. I'll be really excited to see how the two teams do in this bout."

"But Adventure Bay doesn't have a roller derby team."

"No; both teams are from out of town. I think we're only hosting it because both places had weather related issues. It's going to be Kensington vs. Barkingburg." Indeed, both Kensington and Barkingburg had roller skating teams in regular arenas, but due to the inclement weather both places were experiencing (primarily snow and ice), both venues had to close down. As a result, the Princess came up with the solution of asking Adventure Bay to host the game. (Ms. Marjorie had discovered this because she happened to overhear the conversation between Ryder and the Princess while jogging on her usual route, with her pet raccoon, Maynard, alongside her. She said nothing because he was on the phone, but she heard enough of the conversation to be able to confidently tell the mayor about it.)

The phone call came right after the pups were finished eating lunch, although Coral had gone back to Puplantis since her fellow mer-pups needed her help with something else. "Hi, Princess; how is everything in Barkingburg?" Ryder greeted.

"It's better than it was," the Princess replied, "and to be honest, I forgot that Barkingburg had a team doing this crazy sport called roller derby. Most of the roller derby I've heard was a staged spectacle, just like pro wrestling, but this is the legit version played on a flat surface instead of a banked track."

"Are you prepping for the big game against Kensington?"

"Sadly, no; we had a severe winter storm. All the streets are clear so people can drive around again, but the arena is closed. Kensington had also closed their arena because they've also got snow. Again, it's under control. So we had a discussion about where to play the game, and I thought of your town, Adventure Bay. Are you able to do that?"

"We can make it work for you, Princess," the tech-savvy 10-year-old boy replied. "No team is too off course; no pup is too small!" He slid out the mechanism on his pup-pad and pressed the button. "PAW Patrol, it's time for an ultimate rescue!" he called.

"Ryder needs us!" the pups exclaimed, excitedly running to the lookout. As usual, they weren't able to make it without Marshall causing a wipeout; however, Rex wasn't involved in the wipeout since he was the last one into the elevator. He tripped over the curb and rolled like a bowling ball, knocking the other pups down like pins. After regaining his footing, he exclaimed, "Strike!" The other pups all laughed as the elevator went up, and helped the pups change into their uniforms and PAW Patrol gear. They also turned into anthros for the mission; originally, Ryder would flash a green light if he decided it was a mission that required the anthro forms. At this point, though, it just became a habit.

To account for the fact Rex was a paraplegic, Ryder added a special secret elevator that would allow him to get to his vehicle. The outside circle of the Lookout that spun and held the puphouses that turned into the vehicles could expand and shrink as needed, and so it held all the vehicles.

Tuck and Ella had the special Mighty Car that could split into two Mighty Motorcycles, but the spot was just holding the car at the moment. Since they usually just assisted as Mighty Pups when the Ladybird arrived to steal shiny objects for her reflection collection, they didn't have official PAW Patrol gear for regular missions. However, they found themselves wearing basketball-themed jerseys, while wearing the pup tags they usually wore as Mighty Pups, and their pup-packs were identical to their Mighty Pup pup-packs.

Note that Ryder had messaged the owners of the soccer field located near Katie's Pet Parlor about this, asking for advice on where to host the event, and the owners said they could use the soccer field; all they had to do was lay a hard, flat surface on the field so that the skaters could skate. "But we'll need your help to get it set up," they concluded. This is a big deal to both cities."

Ryder then decided to

The elevator made it to the top, and the pups lined up at attention in a line in their usual order, with Rex at the far end to Ryder's right. "PAW Patrol ready for action, Ryder, sir!" Chase announced. "And with extra help this time, and in construction gear!" All the pups howled upon seeing everybody was in construction gear. Rex was the exception, but he wasn't bothered by it one bit. Ryder was also in his construction gear, and his ATV had magically changed to yellow.

"Thanks, pups," Ryder replied, summoning the screen so he could show the problem. "Both Barkingburg and Kensington need our help. The two are rival cities when it comes to sports, and both cities have sports teams participating in the sport of roller derby."

"Is that the game where they skate around and try to lap one another to score points?" Skye asked.

"That's the game, Skye. However, neither city is able to host the other one because both had to close their sports venues from having record snowfalls. They asked us to host the event, so we need all paws on deck for this mission. The people who own the soccer field have given us permission to use that, but they'll need our help to convert it into a flat, hard surface so that they can get the track ready for the big game. That's why I decided that this is...an ultimate construction rescue!" When he paused in mid-sentence, he brought up the construction logo to represent this. "That means it's time for you to lead the job, Rubble, with your ultimate construction rig!"

"Rubble on the ultimate double!" Rubble called.

"I updated the rig to include extra room for the other pups. Oops." Ryder noticed Rex didn't have any gear, and he felt bad. "I didn't mean to leave you out, Rex."

"That's okay," Rex replied. "I'm at a disadvantage anyways, since I need these wheels to get around. But let me know if I can still be of assistance. Dr. Turbot's office is closed today so she could visit with the family here in Adventure Bay. If not, I'll still be here to cheer you and the other pups on."

"What a good pup!" Ryder smiled. "All right; PAW Patrol is on a roll!" He ran to slide down the pole, and Rubble slid down the slide to his rig, which then went underground and turned into the ultimate version. Rex took his special passageway to his vehicle. The Lookout then rose upward so that Rubble could drive the rig out, and as he did, the other pups all slid down the slide, howling with excitement, and landing in their positions. Chase rode shotgun next to Rubble. Ryder then drove his ATV out of the garage, and Rex followed him in his traditional dino-mobile. The pups didn't have long to drive, though, since the soccer field was just on the other side of the bridge.
