AN: I am catching up on posting on this site. I mainly post on AO3 and fell a bit behind, but I know there are still some readers who mainly read on here. This brief fic popped into my head while listening to Fletcher's new album. It is inspired by her song "Holiday." I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1

In moments like that, she felt at peace. Waiting for the wave to surge beneath her, the rhythmic swaying of her board. When Kate was out on the water early in the morning surfing, all that mattered were the waves and mesmerizing tide. The sun's rays warmed her skin as the bright star emerged from the horizon to bask the beach and water with dawn's serene sunlight. Moments like that were heaven. She rode the wave for as long as she could, staying up on her board and enjoying the rush of adrenaline, before diving into the water. She allowed herself to be immersed in the cool, crystal blue depths before resurfacing and swimming with her board to the shore. Her early morning surf had been everything she wanted and more after a long week of travel and meetings. Kate was in Honolulu on business and a long way from her life in D.C., but was making the most out of her trip. When she was informed she would be there for work, she decided to extend her stay through the weekend to take advantage of the amazing surfing she'd heard so much about on the islands. The waves did not disappoint and she sighed happily as she walked onto the beach. She noticed a teenage girl staring at her in the distance and waved awkwardly as the redhead jogged over to her.

"Wow, that was awesome! Where did you learn to surf like that?" she asked excitedly. Kate blushed.

"Oh, thanks, I have an uncle who lives in California. My brother and I would go visit every summer when we were kids because it meant staying on the beach all day. I've been surfing since I was probably around your age."

"Well, you're awesome at it and…" They were interrupted by a tall, dark-haired man that even Kate could admit looked like a runway model as he jogged over in his wetsuit and had a surfboard under his arm.

"Of course you're over here talking to strangers," said the man. Kate giggled when the girl rolled her eyes dramatically.

"Forgive him, he thinks everyone is out to kidnap me," said the girl.

"Forgive her, she thinks her old man is always wrong. She's right about one thing, though. That was a pretty awesome wave you caught back there."

"She learned in California. How cool is that?" asked the girl.

"I think learning in Hawai'i is pretty cool too," assured Kate. The girl nodded in agreement and smiled brightly.

"Totally," she agreed.

"You new? We come here all the time and have never spotted you before," asked the man.

"Just visiting and catching some waves. It's a great beach. I see why people love it so much. Everyone I asked had good things to say," said Kate.

"It's definitely our favorite spot. Gets crowded around lunchtime, but it's always worth it. The two of us always come early but my wife and the rest of the kids will be here with food later. You're welcome to join us," he offered with a smile that let her know he was sincere in his invitation.

"Thanks, but I didn't plan on staying long. Enjoy your waves," she said. The girl nodded happily.

"We will. You should come back tomorrow. I'm Gracie, by the way, and that's my dad, Jesse. Maybe you can show me how to do that tail slide. I suck at those."

"It takes time, but you'll get it. You two have fun. It's a great day for surfing," she said before grabbing her things and heading up the beach.

"You didn't tell us your name," called Gracie. Kate smiled brightly at her over her shoulder and waved.

"Kate," she called back with a giggle.

"Bye, Kate," called Gracie. Jesse rolled his eyes.

"You need a refresher on stranger danger, kid," he said with a chuckle.

"What? She's cool," assured Gracie. Jesse shook his head in amusement as they headed back toward their things.

By the time Kate grabbed some food to take back to her hotel, she was exhausted. She showered and changed into her favorite hoodie before collapsing onto the bed. Her week of meetings was stressful and full of more bureaucracy than she thought she could handle. The work aspect of her trip felt just like D.C. in that regard and she was glad that part was over. A familiar ringtone from her phone echoed through the room just as she closed her eyes and she groaned as she reached for it.

"Two calls in one week. That's a record," she informed. She could practically hear Dylan's sly grin on the other end.

"Liar, we used to talk every day for hours on end. Don't tell me you've forgotten in your old age. How's Hawai'i?"

"Beautiful. I even managed to get in an early morning surf before it got too crowded."

"Look at you embracing your trip. That's great. You deserve a little time to let your hair down. You should do something tonight. Go out. Explore the nightlife in Hawai'i, maybe find a cute girl's company to enjoy while you're at it, or does Whistler not have game like Kate did back in the day?"

"Very funny. I'm not looking for that type of fun while I'm here, though. I may even stay in tonight. Catch up on some sleep. I have an amazing view from my balcony of the ocean and…"

"Boring, absolutely boring. Come on, Kate, live a little."

"I live plenty."

"Again, liar. Look, do it for me. At least go to a bar and have one glass of wine. If you aren't feeling it, then you can go back to the hotel and be boring, but you said it yourself, you need a change. Maybe that starts with enjoying yourself for once," she suggested. Kate sighed. She knew her best friend was right. Dylan knew her better than anyone else. The two had been friends since childhood and were even more than that throughout their late teens and young adult years. She was the only person she ever really confided in besides her brother and she knew her friend had a point.

"Fine, I'll go have a drink, but if the music sucks, I'm leaving." Dylan giggled.

"That's fair. Call me later and let me know how it goes."

"You know you don't have to check up on me, Dyl. I'm fine."

"Of course I do. Talk to you later. Try to have fun." With that, Dylan hung up and Kate scrubbed her face with her hands. She knew her best friend sensed it. She did her best to hide it, but Dylan could always sense when Kate was struggling or sitting with something that was bothering her. She felt like she was at a crossroads in her life. For years, her career path in D.C. was all she wanted. With each promotion and move up the ladder, she felt like she was getting closer to her goal. Her career always was the effortless part. The more meetings she had with the brass and her superiors, the more impressed they were by her prowess and drive, and yet the more she wondered if she was making the right moves. Her career didn't make her apartment less lonely when she came home or her desire for something more than that ache any less in her chest. She didn't know what she needed, but she needed a change. The thought made her groan and she buried her head in her pillow, more than happy to forget about her internal conflict and, instead, take a much-needed nap.

Hours later, after a nap and researching bars in the area, Kate headed to one that had rave reviews. She found herself sitting at a bar perusing a wine menu that evening and trying to decide if she wanted to order dinner as well. Patrons began filing in, so she decided to order before it got too crowded. She was finishing her glass of wine and waiting for her food to arrive when she sensed someone stepping up to the stool beside her.

"This seat taken," called a woman. She glanced over quickly and did a double take when she saw a beautiful brunette standing there. The woman smiled even more at the way Kate sat up straighter to take her in. She was petite and Kate felt quite tall even sitting down as the woman waited for her to respond. Her hazel eyes sparkled with delight and something else Kate couldn't quite decipher as their eyes locked. She quickly cleared her throat.

"Um, no, sorry, please sit," said Kate.

"Thanks, it gets pretty crowded in here around this time."

"You come here often?" asked Kate. The woman giggled at the question and Kate blushed when she realized how it could be interpreted.

"Uh, not in a pickup line kind of way…I mean not that I wouldn't…I've never been here," corrected Kate. The woman smiled even more and held her hand out to her.

"I'm Lucy and yes, I do come here often. I live nearby. You?" Kate shook her hand and introduced herself for the second time that day to a stranger.

"Kate. I'm just visiting."

"Have you ever been to the islands before? What do you think?"

"It's beautiful and the people are very friendly."

"That we are. What are you drinking? I'll order you another," suggested Lucy. Kate eyed her for a moment as she tried to gauge what was happening between her and the stranger. It wasn't the first time a woman approached her, but in her line of work, she tended to be wary at first. There was something about Lucy, though, that put her at ease. She glanced down at her empty wine glass and back at the brunette with the charming smile.

"Thanks, I'd like that. Pinot Grigio," she informed. She smiled as Lucy leaned forward and nodded at the bartender to get his attention. Kate watched her every move. The way she smiled confidently and gave the bartender a warm greeting when he walked over. For someone so small in stature, she held a larger-than-life aura that had Kate intrigued. The bartender placed another glass of wine in front of Kate and a bottle of beer in front of Lucy. Kate was snapped out of her reverie of the woman when Lucy scooted closer to look at the menu in front of her.

"Did you already order?"

"Yeah, just an appetizer, but I might get something else if it is good. Any suggestions?"

"This one is my favorite, but most of the food here is good. What do you like?" Kate smiled and leaned closer as Lucy suggested some of the best items on the menu to test out.

Hours passed with them talking about everything and nothing at all. Drinks flowed, dinner was long over, and yet neither was ready for the night to end. It had been years since Kate had such an interesting conversation. Neither mentioned their jobs, something Kate was relieved by, and it was nice to just be anything but what she was in D.C. for an evening. As they crept closer to midnight, Kate could feel the energy shifting between them, both leaning in more, scooting inches closer to talk quietly to one another in the bubble they'd created. She wasn't surprised when it happened and yet she still didn't expect it, feeling almost like a haze than reality.

"I don't live far. We could get out of here. Maybe have a drink at my place," suggested Lucy as her fingers traced over Kate's arm. It sent goosebumps all over her body and she bit her lip.

"I guess that depends on a very important question." Their eyes locked and the intensity of their stare caused both to inch even closer.

"Oh yeah, what's that?" asked Lucy. The tension and chemistry between them was palpable as it crackled around them. Kate leaned in to whisper in her ear and it was Lucy's turn to bite her lip.

"Do you have wine?" Kate giggled when Lucy crinkled her nose and smiled apologetically.

"No, I'm more of a beer gal," she conceded in defeat, but smiled when Kate stood up to step closer to her. She hovered over the brunette and gave her a mischievous grin that almost brought Lucy to her knees at the mere sight of it.

"Then I guess I'll have to be a beer gal tonight." Lucy's eyes widened and a brilliant smile appeared on her lips as she quickly got the hint.

"Pete, put everything on my tab and close me out ASAP," she called over to the bartender as Kate giggled. Lucy stood up and was pleasantly surprised by their height difference and how the blonde's legs went on for days.

"Let's go make you a beer gal," she agreed with a wink. She held her hand out to Kate and smiled at the way their fingers instinctively laced together as she pulled her out of the bar.

The walk to Lucy's apartment was spent in comfortable silence with both deep in thought. Kate was nervous and the rational, DIA Officer in her started to rear her ugly head. She knew nothing about the woman. What if it was some sort of setup? In her line of work, they were always warned to be careful that people would try to exploit officers to get intel or access. She'd never heard of an officer being seduced, but was sure it could happen. They reached Lucy's apartment building quicker than she thought they would and was surprised when Lucy's thumb gently grazed her cheek.

"Hey, we don't have to do this. I'll be disappointed because it isn't often I meet such an unbelievably beautiful woman who is so smart and charming, but I don't want you to do something you aren't comfortable with," assured Lucy. It caught Lucy off guard when Kate leaned down to kiss her, but she quickly recovered to pull her closer. Their lips meshed together in a soft, teasing kiss that left both yearning for more. Lucy moaned when Kate's fingers slipped into her hair and she deepened the kiss. Soon, their lips found their rhythm, teasing and yet pressing for more. The dizzying kiss left their heads swimming and both had to lean into one another for support as they caught their breaths.

"Upstairs?" asked Lucy. Kate silently nodded and slipped her hand into hers as Lucy led the way. Whatever nerves she had dissipated as they entered the elevator. Their lips sought each other out once again and Kate smiled against Lucy's lips when the brunette pressed her into the nearest wall. Lucy's thigh was between Kate's legs in an instant and one of her hands hiked up the blonde's skirt. Both were frustrated by how efficient the elevator was as it reached Lucy's floor. They hurried to her door and Kate's hands roamed over the brunette as Lucy fumbled with her keys to open the door. Kate smiled at the whimper she got out of her when she nuzzled her neck from behind and nipped at the sensitive skin under Lucy's ear. She made a note of that sound and was already on a mission to get it out of her again as soon as possible. Lucy managed to unlock the door and both sighed in relief when they were finally inside. Kate wasn't sure what snapped inside of her. Maybe it was the months of tension and stress from work. Maybe it was anticipation after hours of foreplay. All she knew for sure was that she was tightly wound and in desperate need of the release that only Lucy could give her. She captured her lips in a passionate kiss and began to unbutton Lucy's shirt as Lucy led the way to her bedroom. They didn't make it to the bed. Instead, Lucy pressed Kate into the wall and hiked up her skirt once again. This time, her hand made it to its destination in between Kate's legs and slipped into her panties. The moment two of Lucy's digits dipped into the blonde, Kate let out a cry of pleasure. Her hips rocked into Lucy's palm and thigh as Lucy pumped deeply inside of her. Lucy's other hand unbuttoned Kate's top to expose her supple breasts. She placed kisses on each, giving both her attention as Kate rode her fingers. Kate's legs began to shake as she held onto Lucy's shoulders. She gripped them tighter as Lucy pumped faster, urging her to take her pleasure and find her release. Kate tumbled over the edge soon after and Lucy buried her face into Kate's shoulder as the blonde came undone. Lucy smiled smugly and peppered kisses on her collarbone as Kate came down from her high. She melted into the wall and Lucy wrapped her arms securely around her to keep her upright. Kate tenderly kissed her and their lips meshed together once again, tongues caressing and bodies seeking out one another. Kate pushed Lucy toward the bed and the brunette was surprised when Kate picked her up into her arms. She placed her on the bed and Lucy grinned from ear to ear.

"Hi," she giggled. Kate gave a cheeky smile right back.

"Hi," she whispered before passionately kissing her again. She quickly discarded her skirt, heels, and blouse before helping Lucy undress. By the time the beautiful woman was naked beneath her, Kate was throbbing with want yet again. She needed to touch her and hovered over Lucy as she trailed light kisses over her chest.

"Stop teasing me," groaned Lucy. Kate winked at her before pulling one of her nipples into her mouth. Lucy's back arched off of the bed and she instinctively spread her legs. Kate palmed her sex and slipped two fingers between her wet folds. She groaned at how slick and aroused Lucy was by her touch and both sighed in relief when she was finally inside of her. She set her pace teasingly slow at first, watching Lucy through hooded eyes, seeing how the woman responded to each touch, every curl of her fingers. It didn't take long for Lucy to start riding her fingers vigorously, seeking them out and rocking her hips even deeper. Kate braced herself with one hand against the headboard of the bed as Lucy took her in. Lucy pulled her closer, silently begging for more, and Kate was more than happy to quicken her pace as the brunette found her release. The sound of Kate's name echoing off the bedroom walls made her yearn to hear it from Lucy's lips even more. She nuzzled her neck and became lost in the feeling of Lucy clenching around her fingers as she orgasmed powerfully. Both were breathless and panting as Kate hovered over her, watching Lucy slowly come down from reaching her peak.

"Wow," said Kate with a bright smile. All Lucy could do at first was nod as she caught her breath.

"Yep," she managed to get out as their hearts raced and bodies melted into one another. Kate sweetly kissed her before rolling over to rest on the pillow beside her.

"That was…wow," she whispered again. Lucy nodded in agreement as she looked over at her and giggled.

"Did you expect it not to be?" she asked in a teasing tone. Kate grinned over at her.

"No, I knew it would be, but I didn't exactly expect my night to go like this. I'm really glad it did, though," she confessed. She smiled even more when Lucy propped herself up on her elbow and laced their fingers together.

"Me too," she whispered before tenderly kissing her. The moment Lucy rolled on top of her, Kate smiled against her lips, knowing their night together had just begun.

AN: I really hope we get that flashback lol. My Kacy shipper soul wants it so badly. They are serving up so much amazing content already this season and I hope that is still in the works. So, what did you think? It was a lot of fun to write some tidbits that work in my headcanon, like Kate and Jesse technically meeting before she moved to Hawai'i as well. I hope you are enjoying this one. It will be shorter than most of my multi-chapter fics, but it should be a fun ride all the same.
