Chapter 12:
William was lying on the bed. On Colleen Forbes' bed in her compartment, actually. It had happened very quickly. Colleen's compartment being at the front of the train and his at the end, he had to pass in front of the young woman's one. So, he had "accompanied" her. Then, when they had been in front of her compartment, she had insisted that he enter. He had not wanted to. Or rather, to be honest, he had hesitated. She had never ceased to seduce him, and he had come to the conclusion that: why not? If Julia Ogden let herself be seduced by a man she barely knew, why would not he do the same?
She almost pulled him inside and he almost tripped. She closed the door and kissed him full on the lips. He had kissed her back, his body still reacting automatically. She had taken off his jacket and then started to unbutton part of his shirt. He then undid part of her dress, and she pushed him to her bed. She straddled him and started kissing his neck as she continued to unbutton his shirt. He had his hands resting very lightly on her hips not really feeling comfortable. He had not had that kind of experience in ages. Even when he was with Liza, they had never done such things.
Suddenly, the sound of breaking glass was heard in Colleen's bathroom, which was closed. They jumped and William sat up, his elbows on the pillows of the bed.
"What was that?" William asked hastily.
"I don't know…I'll go and see, stay here." Colleen ordered anxiously, getting off the bed and heading for the bathroom.
The young man watched her open the door and close it behind her.
"Oh! It's nothing... One of my perfume bottles fell." she cried so he could hear her through the door.
"Need help?!"
"No, no! I'm coming!"
William sighed. There was no way he would continue what they were doing. This pause made him understand that he did not want to. He was not like that. He was not well at the moment, and he felt different from himself since Liza disappeared.
He pulled himself up into a sitting position and looked around as he heard movement in the bathroom. He noticed two books balanced on the table in front of one of the windows. He also saw dresses laid casually here and there. He stared in amazement at countless objects, bags, and books that all seemed very expensive. He then understood the young woman was much richer than what people said. He looked at the bedside table next to him, on which sat a simple lamp and… a pocket watch.
William froze. He grabbed it quickly and looked at it closer. Initials were engraved on the front of the latter.
"J.O." he muttered to himself, stunned.
It was Julia's watch… He was sure of it. William felt completely ashamed, and the guilt went through him like a bucket of cold water thrown on him. He felt like reality had just caught up with him. Julia had really had her watch stolen and she had really sought help. It was an important object for her, especially since her initials were engraved on it… It was not just any watch.
Note: Ouch... William found Julia's watch in Colleen's compartment... What do you think of that?
Thank you for the last review I received :) It's true that I love writing the character of Margaret haha!
