Roxas lunged forward at the same time as the two enemy Servants. He briefly ripped his eyes away from the woman to Assassin.
Assassin. A title given to someone who specialized in killing. The information came to the front of his mind instinctively, just like when he first appeared and said his Servant Class was Avenger. Then again, his head is flowing with a lot of information he has to sort through. Hell, even Sora's memories were messy. Then again, he did just start getting them like a day before and then he got all the other information pushed into his head after being absorbed so that probably has something to do with it.
He briefly thought back to Axel and how he commanded Assassin Nobodies before shaking those thoughts away. He didn't have time for that now.
He had a fight to win.
Rider came towards him from the top of the building like a meteor, sword ready to impale him. Roxas rolled out of the way, causing the sword to hit nothing but dirt before swinging Oblivion at the woman.
Rider growled in annoyance as she used her shield to block the unusual weapon and parrying the second strike from Oathkeeper. She reared her head back and headbutt Roxas, causing him to take a step back.
Assassin leaped into the air and threw several more daggers at the Avenger who easily deflected them once again. Roxas shifted his body in the air and glided through air towards Assassin, surprising both enemy Servants, and readied both Keyblades as he spun like buzz saw.
Assassin managed to quickly recover form his shock to twist his body and barely avoid Roxas' Keyblades hitting him. He pulled out another pair of daggers and buried them into Roxas' side.
Roxas let out a hiss of pain before summoning several pillars of light that spun around him to act as a sort of barrier before sending them outward. He doesn't remember using this move before, but images flashed through his mind of him using it against... Sora? He doesn't know what that was but he can worry about it later.
Assassin hissed as well as he felt his skin being burned by the pillars of light as they pushed him back. He then saw Roxas float into the air and spin his Keylades around as he created to large orbs of light which fired several smaller spheres at him. Jumping back, he ducked and weaced around the spheres that were being launched.
Roxas stopped his attack and glided towards Assassin, thrusting Oblivion towards his head. Unsurprised by the sudden burst in speed, Hassan ducked his head and thrust another dagger towards Avenger, intent on piercing his heart.
Roxas once quickly turned his body in midair once again and dodged the attack. He grunted in annoyance, Assassin was the kind of enemy that was hard to hit and strikes you in back once it gets the chance, just like those Deserter Heartless. At the very least it wasn't while he was fighting a bigger, tougher enemy this time.
Suddenly he saw a shadow loom over him and quickly moved out of the way as another Assassin came down and slammed into the ground, however this one was much larger and bulkier. 4 more assassins popped out, another cloaked one, two that didn't seem to have any specific differences, and one with unusually large fists.
"What is this?!" Roxas questioned.
"Like I had said, it would be foolish of me to risk an open engagement against two unknown Servants alone." Assassin replied.
Roxas took it back, Assassin was worse.
Bracing his Keyblades, he charged at Assassin again.
Mash POV
The Shielder Servant stumbled back as Rider's sword impacted her shield repeatedly.
"What's wrong girl?" Rider said. "You don't seem to even try attacking me. Don't tell me hiding behind your shield is really all you can do." She punctuated her sentence with another swing of her sword. She raised her foot and kicked the shield, forcing Mash back a bit more.
Rider prepared to lunge at Mash again when she suddenly felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. Time slowed down as she turned her head to face the threat coming for her.
Only to be met with an Assassin crashing into her.
"Are you guys ok?" Roxas called out as he came up to Mash and the two Masters.
"Y-yes! Thank you for the assistance Roxas-san!" Mash said as she regained her footing, both Chaldean Servants turned to face the two enemies as the other Assassins appeared.
"Assassin can apparently multiply. Most of them don't seem particularly strong except the big one I managed to take out a couple of them." Roxas explained before turning to look at Rider. "How would rate her in comparison?"
"She's quick." Ritsuka answered, still shocked by the Assassins' sudden appearance. "She's also tough, last time we fought her Mash knocked her into a building that fell on her. She seems about as strong as Mash."
"Well, that's not good. Do you think you hold off a couple Assassins while I try split the rest up?"
"Yes Roxas-san!" Mash said, eyes filled with determination. Roxas turned to face Rider as she got up to her feet, glaring at the boy.
She raised her sword and leveled it at Roxas, the sword glowed with a golden light before a projectile of the same color was shot towards him.
Roxas' eyes widened as he raised Oblivion and deflected the shot into another assassin. Several pillars of light suddenly appeared around the enemy group before a large pillar of light burst out of the ground where they were and several fo them were sent flying into the air. Roxas threw Oblivion at one of the Assassins and cut right into his chest.
Rider landed on her fight and pointer her sword at the Avenger once more before firing off a barrage of projectiles at him. Roxas side stpped the attack and lunged at Rider who charged at him as well
Ritsuka looked towards where Rox before Mash suddenly moved by her side and black a pair of dirks aimed right towards the Master.
The big Assassin charged as he raised his fists to slam them down on the Magi.
Mash grit her teeth as she moved to block the continued assault. She narrowed her eyes before nervously glancing back at Ritsuka and Olga. If she tried to attack one assassin, the other would probably just shoot past her and target them, but if she continued to just block then they would be stuck at a stalemate.
"Now, doesn't it seem a bit cruel ganging up on a lass like this?" A voice called out and both the Chaldean group as well as the Assassins turned to see who it came from.
On top of a building was a figure, wearing a blue robe and wielding an ornamental staff, they waved their hand in the air, forming several runes. The light of the runes illuminated his features, revealing his hooded face and his red eyes.
"Not very sporting now, is it?" Caster quipped and with a flick of his wrist, shot his runes at the big Assassin who barely had time to react before being engulfed in a ball of fire.
Roxas vs Rider POV
Roxas grunted as he rolled out of the way of another strike from Rider's sword and deflected more of Assassin's daggers. He coated the Keyblades in light before charging at Rider with a flurry of swings. Rider could barely keep up with her shield before it was knocked aside and Roxas scut deep into her shoulder with Oblivion and swinging upward with Oblivion, leavinging a gash in her torso.
Rider growled and swung her sword into Roxas' side. Roxas grit his teeth before he suddenly felt one of Assassin's dirks hit the back of his leg and forced him onto one knee, Roder pulled her shield back before nailing Roxas in the face with it and knocking him away, despite her injuries.
Roxas groaned as he quickly recovered, pulling the knife out of his legs and getting back up. He glared at his two opponents as he readied his Keyblades again.
However all of their heads snapped aside at the sound of an explosion to see one of the Assassins engulfed in flame and Mash swinging her shield into the side of the other Assassin's head and sending him flying.
Roxas stared as the Assassin's body disappeared only to get blasted by another barrage of Rider's projectiles and knocked away. Caster jumped to his side and fired another set of runes at the Rider and Assassin duo, creating a large blast of fire.
"Need a hand?" Caster said.
"I just got caught off-guard." Roxas shrugged it off as he narrowed his eyes at the newcomer.
The man raised his hands in surrender. "Easy, I'm not here to fight you." He then pointed to his right. "Besides, We still have a common enemy."
Turning his head, Roxas turned to see a chariot running around in a circle and apparently creating a protective barrier for Rider and Assassin.
"Caster." Rider hissed. "Why are you helping these humans?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Caster shrugged. "It's better than working with you." He twirled his staff and wielded it like a spear.
Assassin threw several dirks at them which Roxas deflected before lunging towards Assassin.
Assassin clicked his teeth in annoyance and jumped away to escape, but Roxas threw Oblivion which cut into him like a Buzzsaw before thrusting Oathkeeper and piercing him through his chest.
Meanwhile Caster's staff and Rider's sword clashed as they fought. 'What a fool. Does he really think he can beat me at close quarters?' She swung her sword at him again. 'He would've stood a much better chance as a Lancer-' She paused her train of thought when she noticed Caster's expression. He wasn't staring at her, but something behind her.
That's when Rider realized she had forgotten something, or rather someone. She barely turned her head in time to see a pair of key-shapes swords performing a scissor motion before her head came off her shoulders.
Roxas panted as he watched Rider's body disappear into motes of light just like Assassin before grimacing. That... was the first time he's actually killed people, people who weren't Heartless that is. Sure he's injured people before like when he broke Saïx's claymore and cut into his shoulder, and he did want to kill that doctor, kind of still does actually, but he's never fully taken a life before except... wait why did he think there was someone he killed? He shook his head, he can worry about this later.
Roxas then turned to Caster. "So, are you a friend or a foe?"
"You all are the first humans I've seen in a while." Caster admitted. "Plus the girl is a new kind of Servant I've never seen before. And you." He then turned to Roxas, looking at his Keyblades. "I've never seen a weapon like these before, but I can tell those weapons are special." He could feel they were filled with light. Not the light magecraft he was familiar with. But a kind of light that filled him with hope.
"Trust me. I'm aware." Roxas said in a deadpan manner. The Keyblades were practically the damn reason everyone was after him and saw him as only a tool.
Caster shrugged off his expression and pulled down his hood, revealing his blue hair and long ponytail. "Suppose it doesn't matter too much, you seem like a good kid so it shouldn't be too hard to think about."
"So..." Roxas said slowly. "Friend then?"
"Yeah." Caster nodded. "Friend."
"What?!" Olga shouted. "You can't just trust him like that! He's a rogue Servant!"
Both Servants looked at the Director before replying. "He seems like a good person. / He did just help us out."
"Honestly!" Olga growled before turning to Ritsuka. "He's your Servant! Say something!"
Ritsuka didn't reply. Instead she kept staring at where Lancer's body was.
"Oh. I see the problem." Caster nodded with a frown as he took a step towards the master. Mash made to move in his way while Roxas tensed up slightly, gripping his Keyblades. Caster raised his hands in a surrendering gesture. "Relax, I'm not going to hurt her. Just knock her out of it."
Mash hesitated and sent a glance towards Roxas, who also had a hesitant look. After a silent conversation was made, they both relented and Mash let the man pass.
Caster went up to Ritsuka and flicked the Master in the forehead. The impact made Ritsuka stagger and see Caster staring at her with a blank expression. "First time seeing someone die?"
"H-Huh?" Ritsuka gulped. "Y-Yeah..."
"Hmm." Caster nodded his head. "Not much I can do to help but tell you to suck it up and get used to it. Otherwise those two will be in serious trouble." He jerked his thumb over his shoulder to point at the two Chaldean Servants.
"R-Right..." Ritsuka gulped. "S-Sorry..."
Caster just shrugged it off. "Just work on it." Was all he said before turning to face the rest of the group. "So, who are all of you?"
"I'm Roxas." The Avenger introduced himself.
Caster nodded and turned to Mash. "What about you?"
"Eh...?" Mash blinked. "I'm Mash Kyrielight."
"That's a very nice name you have." Caster complimented as he looked her up and down. " But that's not a true name is it... You don't feel like a full Servant."
"I'm a Demi-Servant."
"...I'm just gonna assume that's like a Demi-God or something." Caster dismissed it before turning to Olga. "And you?"
"I am Olga Marie Animusphere, Director of Chaldea-"
"Right got it." Caster interrupted Olga as soon as he got her name, ignoring her squawk of indignation. "Anyways, I think we'll be better of somewhere not in the open. With all the fighting we were doing here, we're likely to attract the attention of a certain prick I'd rather not deal with right now."
"There are more Servants?" Olga asked in alarm as her eyes widened.
"Three, including me. We can talk about it later." The man threw his thumb over his shoulder. "Follow me."
"Do you actually think we're stupid enough to-"
"Alright." Ritsuka said as she nodded her head. "Come on Mash." She followed after Caster, leaving Roxas to blink at her actions while Olga gaped in shock.
"Coming Senpai." Mash followed after her. Roxas watched as the trio walked by him before turning to Olga, still gaping like a fish before sputtering something incoherent, then scowling and marching after them.
Roxas could only sigh as he followed suit, really needing some answers.
Chaldean Group POV
The group soon found themselves at an abandoned building, Caste described it as a school before everything went wrong, or in his words, 'Went to shit'. Something he promised to explain more in detail once they had hidden themselves.
"Right." Caster sat on a table in a ruined classroom. "So, what brings the living to this place?"
"One moment." Olga raised her hand, turning to Ritsuka. "Get Romani back up here."
"R-right." Ritsuka said before pausing and staring at the device on her wrist, then looking back to the Director with a sheepish smile. "How do I do that again?"
Olga's eye twitched as she started to explain the basic principle to her. Caster watched them with an amused expression before turning to Roxas. "So where are you from?"
"Twilight Town."
"Huh, never heard of it."
"I wouldn't expect you to." Roxas said.
"Must be a small town or something then." Caster shrugged it off.
"That reminds me." Olga turned around and pinting a finger at Roxas. "You!"
Roxas raised an eyebrow as he pointed to himself. "Me?"
"Yes, nothing about you're presence makes sense!" Olga exclaimed. "If you were simply an obscure, more modern Heroic Spirit, then that would be something else. But not once have I ever heard of a Heroic Spirit that used weapons as unique as those key swords-"
"Keyblades." Roxas corrected.
"Whatever they are and then there's that Magic you used, it felt more akin to True Magic than Magecraft!" Olga listed as she felt close to pulling her hair out. "It's as though you're from a completely different world!"
"Fujimaru, thank goodness!" Romani's voice was then heard. "I'm relieved to see you all got through-"
"I've already been to a lot of worlds so coming to a new one isn't really a surprise. But how I'm here is definetely a first for me." Roxas said. Romani was cut off, face turning blank at his words, Olga similarly gaped at him in shock while everyone else stared at him with wide eyes.
Normally the Organization made it clear secrecy was crucial, but Roxas wasn't with them anymore so why should he care about their rules. Plus, from how he got here, he doesn't think he could make up a convincing lie even if he wanted to, having apparently died, become a Servant, and being resurrected and summoned to help these guys, he's honestly too tired to care about the whole World Order thing anymore. Plus he was a Servant and Servants were already dead, so screw the consequences.
"Um..." Romani coughed into his hand. "Did you just say you've traveled to other worlds?"
"Yeah, it was something I had to do a lot when I used to work with this Organization." Roxas answered.
"As in other worlds?"
"Yes."
"And you did this often?"
"Pretty much whenever I was given a mission by my old Organization."
"Avenger." Olga said slowly. "What do you know about your summoning?"
"I'm an Avenger, there are 8 other Classes, alongside some basic stuff about Heroic Spirits like them being famous heroes accepted by the Throne of Heroes. I don't know how or why I got chosen though." Roxas said as he cupped his chin. "Also I have something called a Noble Phantasm."
"Avenger... can we ask some things about your old world?"
"I guess?" He wanted some information like what is going on and she seemed like type who wouldn't stop until they got more information.
"How did you travel to other worlds?"
"Something I picked up called a Corridor of Darkness, apparently it's usually impossible to get to other worlds normally so we used a special pathways to get between them." Roxas explained before adding onto it. "But it's dangerous to frequently use them for most normal people so I wouldn't recommend it."
"You mentioned an Organization? What kind of group was it?" Caster asked with interest in his eyes.
"Well, some of it's member's were nice, but a the ones in charge were assholes." Roxas said, frowning as he thought back to Saix and Xemnas. "But most all they were after getting their own hearts."
"...Hearts?"
"Yes."
"Like the organ?"
"Not quite." Roxas sighed as everyone gave him odd looks. "Look, it's complicated and I still don't really get it, but trying to explain in it all would take a lot of time."
"I don't suppose you can summarize it?" RItsuka asked.
Roxas sighed. "Fine but a lot of specific stuff is gonna have to wait."
"-And that's the basics of it." Roxas said after explaining the basic idea of Darkness, Heartless and Nobodies to them as everyone stared in varying degrees of awe and disbelief.
"So these Organization XIII guys couldn't feel anything because they're Nobodies and tried to get their Hearts back through this Kingdom Hearts thing." Caster summed up. He's seen and heard of a lot of crazy things, but nothing like this.
"Yep." Roxas confirmed with a nod of his head.
"Um, Roxas-san." Mash spoke up. "If Nobodies are unable to feel emotions, does that mean that you..."
"Like I said, I never really got why they were so obsessed about their Hearts, I was always able to feel angry, happy, sad and stuff so I couldn't really understand. Then again they said I was special even by their standards, so that might have something to do with it." Roxas said.
"You got the names wrong." Ritsuka suddenly said, causing everyone to turn to her.
"What?" Roxas tilted his head.
"If the Heartless are Hearts corrupted by darkness and the Nobodies are the bodies without Hearts, shouldn't the Nobodies be Heartless and Heartless be Nobodies?" She pointed out.
Roxas blinked. "Huh... Well I wasn't the one who named them, it was just what everyone referred to them as."
Olga could only stare in disbelief, this boy was able to travel between worlds that had things such as Darkness and Heartless. The only person that was known to be able to travel between worlds was the Wizard Marshall Zelretch. "How common was the ability to travel to other worlds?" She couldn't help but ask as she bit her lip.
Roxas hummed. "I'm not certain on how many people outside of it, but all 13 members of the Organization could do it, including myself."
"Although, now that I've given my story, I'd like to know what's going on for me to get summoned." Roxas said as both he and Caster gave the others a curious look.
So for some reason, on fanfiction I can't put the plus or minus modifiers to Servant stats because they just disappear. So that basically means that until that problem is changed, there's a chance the Servant stat sheets you see here on fanfiction will be somewhat incomplete.
