King's landing woke up that day as usual

Shop owners opened their businesses, carriages rode full speed in the stone roads, children ran around the streets, while the golden cloaks were still waking up, roaming the city that they zealously guard. Workers lined up in the factories as the morning shift started, the only steady job for those without a title or a shop to call theirs.

With most nobles moving to the Emperor's residence at Summerhall, rebuilt on the grounds of the old Targaryen castle, Aegon's hill seemed like a relic of the past, with the Red Keep, one of the few surviving buildings from the razing of the City at the end of the War of the 5 Kings. The old castle, the former seat of the Realm's power, now serves as a prison for those who committed treason, and residence for the city's prefect, with both the emperor and it's Hand residing in Summerhall.

As stevedores in the docks of the Blackwater bay received ships incoming from the territories in Essos, now that the old and proud Free Cities of Essos have been reduced to mere provinces of the Westerosi Empire and the Empire of the North. While the Stark Tzars contented with Braavos and Lorath, the Lannister Emperors expanded all the way to Mereen, fighting the Ghiscari for control of the Freedmen's Bay.

So, while Lannisport and Oldtown competed for the wealth of the 7 Colonies, King's Landing got the biggest share out of Essos, being fed by the Reach's crops, its industries by the coal of the Westerlands and Iron from the Stormlands, its cotton mills being fed by Dorne's, its marble and luxury goods imported from the Eyrie, while the Riverlands supplied cheap labor, together with the poor souls crossing the Narrow sea.

As the New Sept of Baelor, ironically the oldest temple In the city, and other septs of the Westerosian faith received their congregations, while those following the old faith of Rhollor follow the few Red Temples in the city, eyed with suspicion by most of the westerosis since the Wars of the Fire Reformation claimed the lives of many in Westeros, and the last conflict fought on Westeros till this day.

The city moved as usual, so by noon, as the city was at It's most busiest, with people going in the streets as if time was of the essence, and everyone's problems seem of the highest priority. As such, many would've felt forgiven that they haven't noticed the posters and signs posted that day, or ignoring the announcers gathered in their posts. But as the day went on, the news shocked the city, and that evening, both the Septs and Red Temples were filled with people, with the nobles and the rich burghers in their front seats, while the smallfolk kneeled in the ground, praying about it

For as the Song of Ice and Fired said in its first lines: "The Empire, long divided, must unite; long united, must divide."

For Emperor Jaime VI, Lord of the Andals and the Rhoynar, Protector of the Realm and Defender of the Faith, and by the Grace of the Lord of Light Emperor of Westeros, was dead and without issue, with the matter of succession up in the air
