Chapter 48:
"I assure you Margaret! He was with Doctor Ogden last night in his compartment!" laughed the chief inspector as he straightened his tie while looking at himself in a mirror in their bedroom. "I'm not telling you what it had to do in there..."
"Leave them alone, Thomas." Margaret annoyed as she read a book, sitting on the couch.
"I still find it funny. I think he completely fell in love with her. Yet they are so different. She's full of fire and passion… While he…" he laughed again.
"You are jealous…"
"What?" wondered the inspector, looking at his wife.
"Yes. You are jealous. William and Julia are perfect for each other, and you just have to see the looks they have been giving each other since the beginning of the journey."
"How have you been since the beginning of the trip?"
"My poor Thomas." Margaret sighed, returning to her book.
The Chief Inspector was about to retaliate when knocks sounded at their door.
"I go…"
He opened the door and was surprised to find Murdoch as he was just talking about him with his wife.
"Ha! Murdoch! Enter, please." he smiled, stepping aside to let him pass.
"Thank you, sir."
Thomas closed the door behind him and followed Murdoch into the bedroom.
"So? What brings you? You have news?"
"Yes sir…"
Detective Murdoch told him everything he knew and had discovered. He told her about Magnus Duval who had no alibi and his theory about the Novak brothers and Nora Champagne. He explained to him that he had asked Walid Champagne to obtain a warrant to be able to search the passenger compartments. Finally, he told her about Julia Ogden's theory of how the murder had taken place and her attempt to recover the object which was in the victim's stomach, and which could potentially be the murder weapon.
"Well… You have been busy." said Thomas. "That's perfect, Murdoch. Really. And Dr. Ogden is really good. Did you tell her about my proposal?"
"No, not yet, sir."
"What are you waiting for?" Brackenreid asked, startled, glancing at his wife.
"I do not know…"
"He is afraid that she will say no. Isn't that William?" adds Margaret, still on the job.
"I... I think you're right..."
"Well, even if she says no, it's not a big deal. You live in the same town, huh?" Thomas said jokingly at his wife's exasperated gaze.
William nodded quietly, looking thoughtful.
Note: Thomas and Margaret haha! Thank you so much for the last comment, it's really nice :) I hope you like the rest
