Metallic fingers bumped along the leather steering wheel to the beat of the song. Ash looked down the never ending road as he continued to drive forward.
It had been only a day since the incident in the S-Mart and he was already on the road again. Strangely enough, for a guy who was tired and done running from his problems, he sure seemed to spend a lot of time doing just that.
Well, at least this time it was to make sure that he could still do his job. Now one might ask a question. That being, why didn't Ash try to stay and explain to the authorities about everything?
Well, Ash would need some actual proof of that. He knew for a fact that if he tried to prove his case, Evil would be so quiet that it might as well not exist at all. Then he ends up in jail or an insane asylum. Neither of which sound too great.
As much as an idiot Ash is, there was no denial that he was starting to think a little bit more critically. He needed money, he needed weapons, he needed a more permanent base of operations than the local motel or hotel, and he needed information.
Perhaps he could get a big trailer hooked to the back of his car and he wouldn't have to waste any money on hotels.
As for weapons, the old Boomstick and Chainsaw have gotten him through thick and thin and they'll continue to do so for as long as he lives.
But he did have to admit, he'd need other weapons to carry on him that were a bit more subtle than a sawed off double barrel and a literal chainsaw. Thankfully, he knew just the guy to call.
If there was one thing his father taught him that was useful, it was how to make money. Credit card scams, gambling, etc, whatever, you name it, Ash knew it. Ash flexed his metallic hand as it moved but its movements were seemingly getting more limited. Just fantastic.
He'd need a new hand as well. The gauntlet had served him well in his time of fighting in 1300 AD but there was no denying that it wouldn't last forever. It was old and it would either eventually break or become so stiff that it's practically useless.
He wasn't too worried about that front however. He did graduate from college with an impressive degree in engineering and he was quite good at it too. His hand and modified chainsaw being a testament to that. it wouldn't be too difficult to craft an arm worthy of his satisfaction.
Last but certainly not least, he would need information. Ash would be the first one to admit that he was not one to do his homework. Granted, he probably could just guess and manage to survive a while but being prepared never hurt anyone.
Though he was sure that even if he was forced to listen to the words for a million years, he'd still somehow managed to forget them. In any case, he'd need the right kind of lore in order to hunt the things that weren't deadites and boy were there a lot of them.
So many things to do, so much responsibility, it was a little overwhelming. Ash was grateful however. Since leaving the book in the past and on an entire other continent, he didn't have to deal with it specifically.
That thing always did give him the creeps. Even with that, Ash couldn't just shake the feeling that his luck was about to get even worse as he continued on this crazy adventure. He let out a sigh as he turned the volume on the radio up and ventured forward.
Police sirens swarmed the S-Mart as a large, black car soon pulled in with two detectives inside. One being a man while the other being a shorter woman. They both looked onward at the scene before the woman turned to him and spoke.
"I think it's him."
"Come on..."
"It has his fingerprints written all over it!"
"Not everything having to do with an S-Mart is something to do with Ash Williams! Based on what we've learned from his hometown, he was nothing more than an idiot! If he did manage to leave without a trace, he most likely would've died by now!"
"Exactly the right kind of stupid to go to another S-Mart even after what he's been said to have done! Plus the vehicle they said to be leaving immediately after matched his exact car! Look, we'll go in and see for ourselves alright?"
"...Alright but you owe me twenty bucks if it has nothing to do with him."
The fellow detective simply rolled her eyes at his statement as they soon exited the car and made their way to the store. Showing off their badges as they ducked under the police tape and entered the store.
The woman felt a shiver run up her spine similar to the one she had when investigating Williams' childhood house. It had to be him.
It was a strange feeling she had whenever she seemed to be around something to do with him. A tingle that you might notice the first time but the second you do, it's nothing but overwhelming terror.
Terror that makes your body send signals, signals practically screaming, begging you to get away. She shook the feeling away as best she could as she continued to walk until they saw a bloody sheet on the floor.
Campbell bent down and surveyed the blanket covered corpse before deciding to lift up the blanket. Her head was completely gone from her body, leaving behind a bloody stumped neck. The two shook their heads at the sight before seeing some witnesses; they both flashed their badges once more.
"Detectives Amanda Fisher and Bryce Campbell. We're here to investigate this crime scene. We'd like to ask you a few questions about what happened here today."
The several witnesses nodded at the two as they began answering the questions asked of them. Fisher could barely believe what was coming out of these people's mouths.
Either Ash is a master manipulator or these people were just as insane as he was. Seriously, a woman started floating and attacking people? She's never heard such bullshit in her life.
One woman in particular got her temper flaring. A redhead who described the whole situation as something incredible and romantic. How he kissed her after blowing the poor woman's head off.
She couldn't hear anymore of this. Her smile was a fake and bitter one as she nodded at the story that was told to her.
"Yeah. Thank you for your time. Though I suggest you keep your cheesy action, romance movie fantasies out of reality."
She finished off as she walked back with Campbell, following him to the backroom with the manager of the store. She voiced her frustrations of the stories that were told with Campbell as all he could really do was nod his head in agreement.
"You're right. I could barely hold myself back from going off on someone. What is wrong with these people?"
The manager chuckled darkly at that as he sat down in the chair in front of the multiple screens.
"Your answer is as good as mine. That Ash Williams has been a thorn in my side ever since he got hired here and yet everyone around here just seems to adore him. I always knew there was something wrong with that asshole but now I find out he's some sort of serial killer. God Almighty."
"Yeah, welcome to the club. It's not rare for serial killers to be romanticized, humanized, or popularized by the public. As much as I hate to admit it, Williams is a rather good looking man so that only adds to the hysteria. I'm just more surprised that he's already on the end of that spectrum. His cases are much more recent."
"He's a monster is what he is."
Amanda said in annoyance at the talk that was going on. What else was she supposed to feel about the guy?
He kills several people including his sister and girlfriend in a cabin, tells some bullshit cover up story, kills another woman, then runs away like a coward? She's not sorry to say that her opinion is less than positive towards him.
She was snapped out of her thoughts as the blinding lights of the multiple large screens burned to life in front of her. She watched in curiosity as the manager pulled up to the time frame where the incident occurred.
The screens started to glitch out slightly as the lights flickered wildly but the three didn't pay any attention to it. They stared at the screen intensely as Ash seemingly grabbed a rifle from the display and immediately started shooting at a random woman before her head exploded with some of the chunks of brain and blood hitting the camera.
The elderly manager held his hand to his mouth, gagging at the sight while the two detectives looked at the screen with disgust and anger. They could not allow this madman to be out in the open where he could hurt anybody. The video and lights only then stopped glitching and flickering when the manager put a pause to the video.
"I hope that's what you were looking for in a sense."
"It was. We're going to need this tape for evidence as we continue our search for him if that's alright with you."
The manager didn't hesitate as he got them the tape and they soon exited the surveillance room. Amanda rubbed her hair back before feeling tugging at her pants. Her gaze looked down to see a little girl holding onto her pant leg.
"You're going to catch the bad man aren't you?"
She let out a small smile to that as she bent down to her level.
"Of course I am sweetheart. I promise he's not going to hurt anyone else. Not on my watch."
That should've been the end of it but the familiar tingle ran up her back as the lights began to flicker and shine once more wildly. She looked around in confusion as no one else seemed to notice or even acknowledge the strange occurrence.
"What a shame. So aspiring and yet going to die so soon..."
The demonic voice caused her to halt suddenly before she slowly turned around to see the little girl once more. However girl wouldn't be the right term to describe what she was seeing. Her face was all managed and her eyes were this unreadable white.
"I suggest stopping while you're ahead or you'll end up like all these people. Or worse."
Something metallic up in her throat and exited her mouth. Her eyes travelled down to her chest, her eyes widening at the hand stuck in her chest. She tried to scream but nothing but a raspy sound came out.
"Fisher! Fisher! Fisher!"
She was snapped out of it as there was no damage inflicted upon her and the little girl in front of her was just that. A little girl. What the hell? She shook her head as she stood up and looked at him.
"You alright?"
"...Yeah."
That was the final thing she said as he studied her face before deciding to let it go. He nodded and gestured towards the car, she didn't say anything as she followed him into the car and they were soon on the road, looking for Ash Williams. She wasn't going to stop until she saw him in handcuffs. It would kill her if she didn't.
"So uh...why are you so keen on finding him?"
She looked over at him as if that was the most absurd question she's ever been asked.
"Might have something to do with the fact that he's a crazed serial killer out murdering people?"
"Well yeah but this just seems a little personal is all I'm saying."
"Personal how? I've never heard of the guy until he decided to butcher all of his friends at a cabin. This is our case and I feel like we should be taking this seriously. That's all."
Bryce looked at her before nodding and continuing to look on the road to which she internally sighed. She couldn't tell him just yet but he'd understand when they finally caught the son of a bitch.
All they should do now is focus on the case. The inky vehicle rolled down the road as the two stayed without another word.
The Oldsmobile Delta 88 came to a screeching halt as it was parked in front of a plaza. Ash sighed as he opened the door, stepping out and looking at the specific store in mind.
It was a strange looking store that would be the ultimate fishing trap for nerds and losers all the like. But that was only on the outside.
His brown eyes gazed at the 'We're Closed!' sign and a smirk grew onto his face. The first time he had ever entered this store when it was closed was for an authentic viking helmet after hearing a little tidbit that something a lot more interesting happens after hours. He never did get the helmet so maybe he'll find one along with the information he needs.
Ash walked to the door and just as he thought, the door was unlocked. He entered the dimly lit store as the door closed almost instantly behind him.
"Jeez, rude. Uh...hello? Doctor Weird? I'm not entirely sure you have a doctorate in anything but whatever! I'm in need of services of the more supernatural variety! It's not like this is the first time I've been here! I mean, you kind of let me down the first time so I'd like some actual help this time around!"
His words seemed to disappear into the store as he snorted and shook his head in mild amusement. He went from being an engineer major in college to a man with a metallic hand talking to himself in an empty store...that he essentially broke into. What the hell is his life?
He was going to turn back before he sensed something strange only for a hot steam to hit his shoulder. He looked up only to see a muscle bound, coal black Minotaur staring back down at him. Ash's brown eyes stared at the strange creature as its pure red eyes looked at him with an intensity of a thousand suns.
The Chosen One slowly backed away ready to make a break for it before bumping into something and letting out a yelp. He immediately turned only to see a shorter man in robes booming in laughter at his response. Ash rolled his eyes in response as the Minotaur only joined him in his laughter before it died down.
"Haha, very funny. You know I was about to leave and take my services elsewhere?"
"The last time you brought your services here, you nearly blew up the block."
"Hey, it was your spell! Besides, how was I supposed to know that saying it a syllable off would cause such a reaction? Besides, how does an explosion come from a spell that was to find me an authentic viking helmet?"
"So I see your ability to say spells correctly hasn't gotten any better?"
Ash was about to say another retort before realizing what was just said to him and stared at him suspiciously.
"How do you know about that?"
The man only smirked as another chuckle escaped from his mouth.
"Ever since the portal that sent you back in time, I was made aware. If you were to tell me that you were The Chosen One, I'd definitely believe you were high on something. Probably everything."
"Wait, so you sensed the portal that sent me back in time but not the one that caused Evil to return? Also why didn't you help me if you knew about it?"
"I only sensed the second spell because it was breaking the laws of time and space. Any magic user would've sensed something that huge. I didn't sense the first spell because I was...indisposed."
"Drunk?"
"Yes."
"As for why I didn't aid you in your battle in 1300 AD, well you clearly managed to do quite well on your own and my ancestor, The Old Wise Man, was more than enough to provide aid for you. Plus, it was technically your fault."
"Wait, Old Man Wise Man is your ancestor?"
"Yep. Somewhere along the line my father met my mother and the bloodline continued all the way to making me. Elvin Cornelius at your service!"
"For a super powerful wizard and all, your name really sucks."
"You're one to talk, 'Ashley Joanna Williams'."
Ash grumbled as he crossed his arms before thinking back to the towering half man half bull creature that was standing behind him. He cleared his throat before talking.
"So you mind explaining this handsome little guest you have here?"
Ash questioned, his finger pointing to the menacing looking figure who only looked down at him.
"It's rude to the point but that's just my bodyguard and good friend, Kinmaruk. Don't mind him, he's quite the charming individual and a loyal friend."
"Hey and I'm not?"
"You slept with my sister."
"She's a mature woman who can make her own choices."
"My mother."
"Also a self respecting woman who makes her own choices."
"My girlfriend?"
"My mistake on that one, I thought she was your mother. Guess Sigma Freud had a point huh?"
"You'll remember that but you can't remember three simple words."
"Alright enough! As fun as it was chatting with you, we need to get to work. I need two things."
"Them being?"
"An authentic viking helmet and a book on the lore of monsters and supernatural creatures. I figured that if I'm going to take this Chosen One thing seriously, I should at least know how to face off against those things."
"Well look at that, you do have something of a brain up there. Alright, allow me a moment to rummage through my archives for a book that fits your standard. You just take a seat and relax."
The sorcerer quickly vanished behind a wall quicker than Ash could question him about the helmet, not that it would have mattered anyhow.
In a split second, Ash was in a completely different section of the store sitting on a couch. He looked around in disappointment as he leaned back into the couch with his head perched on his hand.
Several things floated across the room including a disembodied eye, a chest threatening to burst open from what looked like tentacles within, a porno DVD, and much more.
He let out a sigh before turning to his side to see a metallic helmet on the hand of the Minotaur. He shuffled to stand up quickly as he looked at the face of the Minotaur who only shook his hand for him to take it.
He didn't waste a single second as he snatched up the headgear and placed it upon his head. He didn't bother to stop the smile that crept onto his face before looking up at the creature.
"You're alright Kin, you're alright."
The towering monster only nodded its head in approval before standing in its stance of judgment. Ash's perspective suddenly shifted as he was in another part of the store, not on a chair causing him to fall on the floor.
He grunted in annoyance as he stood up before Elvin walked past him, several books in the air, flipping through each of the book's contents.
Ash stood up and went to follow him before being in a different location this time the top of a stairway, Ash let out a yelp before being transported to the bottom of the stairs, still falling but not in a way that would've hurt had he fallen at the top.
His perspective soon changed once more as he looked around in a small office section of the store. Standing at the desk was Elvin once more. Ash stood up quickly as he rubbed his slick, inky hair back.
"Can you stop doing that?!"
"And stop causing you trivial despair? That's like asking me to stop breathing."
"Not a bad suggestion."
"Quite rude. In any case, I don't have your book."
"What? Why not?"
"Because Ash, if I were to give you something like that, you'd get even more cocky than you already are. You're just going to have to figure it out on your own."
Ash stared at the wizard for a moment before groaning and rubbing his slick, black hair back.
"You just can't make things easy for me huh?"
"Why should I? Life surely isn't so why should I?"
"Asshole."
Ash snorted as he shook the hand of the robed man before the perspective of their surroundings shifted once more to the front of the store.
"Thank you. One of you anyway."
Ash said, giving a little salute with his left hand to Elvin and Kinmaruk.
"Good luck."
The taller man nodded at the words before taking the helmet exited the odd store to set foot on his journey once more.
"He is going to perish isn't he?"
The Minotaur questioned in a deep voice as Elvin gave a thin, flat smile before slowly nodding his head.
"Maybe. Probably. Definitely."
Ash exited the store and rolled down the window and placed the helmet inside before shutting the windows and closing them once more. Ash sighed in annoyance as he knew this was definitely going to be a burden.
He went to open the door of his car before his familiar sense went off in him and he looked around in suspicion and worry.
Everything seemed to turn quiet as the wind howled silently around him. Ash's eyes widened as he suddenly went running in the opposite direction as fast as he could.
There was no real way to describe the force that was chasing him physically. It was a presence that always seemed to be after you. Something that would never tire and never stop until it got to you. A horror that would destroy everything in its past just to catch you and you personally.
This was clear as everything Ash threw at the force seemed to be crushed and destroyed straight away. He dodged and weaved past things and leapt over things but nothing stopped the force from chasing him.
Ash huffed and puffed as he continued to run, almost getting run over by a car that pulled out suddenly. He had no time to waste as he ran away past it, ignoring the angry driver's obscenities.
He didn't think much of the horrible, crunching sound until a tire went flying over his head which only caused him to increase in terms of speed. Ash swiftly made a turn into an alley but as the force did the same, the man was nowhere to be found.
Everything was tense as it felt like anything could happen in those choking seconds before the atmosphere turned back to before the entity even found its way to him. Ash looked down as he held himself up between the two buildings and fell down to the ground when he thought the coast was clear.
He let out an exasperated breath as he leaned against the dumpster in the narrow alley. Seemingly catching his breath, he made a move to get up before everything went quiet, his sense blaring loudly.
The dumpster lid suddenly flipped open, pushing Ash back into the wall as a female deadite rose from the dumpster's inside.
"We've found you Ashley! We're never going to let you go!"
The deadite cackled loudly as it lunged for Ash who let out a yell before ducking out the way and making it onto his face. His fists suddenly went up as the possessed female rose and twitched its neck to face him.
"Alright, come on! Let's tango bitch!"
The deadite lunged for Ash who slid underneath its arm before returning to his knees and landing a mean right hook to the back of its head. The deadite didn't falter as its head turned a complete 180 degrees around and licked its lips, its body doing the same.
Its hand moved at blinding speeds to which Ash tried to stop before it firmly gripped onto his neck. Ash felt his feet leave the ground as he was lifted into the air by the throat. Ash kicked and thrashed about before socking the deadite straight in the face, causing her to drop him.
Ash didn't waste any second as he continued to land different hits against the demon, one specific assault with his metal hand breaking the deadite's jaw clean off.
"If you ask me, it's an improvement!"
It glared at him as it grabbed its unattached jaw and reattached it before rushing towards Ash again. Ash grabbed the deadites hands and the two were stuck in an immense struggle before it spun and swang Ash further down the alley.
"I'm going to cut you up into little pieces!"
Ash went for another swing before a whistle caused them both to stop and then turned to the source of the sound.
"Hey 'Chosen One!' Your blade!"
Ash looked and saw Elvin and Kinmaruk standing at the entrance of the alleyway Ash ran into, holding his chainsaw and Boomstick. Ash let out a laugh as he detached his hand and ran onto the dumpster before leaping at the two.
Elvin tossed both weapons at the flying man who caught the double barrel in his left and twisted his arm to catch the chainsaw.
As Ash landed on his feet, pulling the string and turning on the chainsaw, and looked back at the deadite, it glared at the three before jumping into the air itself and launching itself at Ash. Ash was shocked to feel himself being picked up and saw the Minotaur holding him.
No words were stated as Ash was thrown in the direction of the deadite and let out a battle cry, shooting the deadite in the chest before swining his chainsaw cutting the possessed woman in half. Blood splattered everywhere as Ash landed on the floor once more and looked back at them with a smirk.
"Huh, guess you're not totally hopeless after all."
"Hey!"
Ash was caught off guard as the deadite's top half spoke abruptly.
"You will never defeat Evil! You will forfeit your life in trying! You will be a slave forever in torment! Yo-ack!"
The deadite was cut off as Ash placed his foot onto her chest and aimed the shotgun down at her.
"No thanks, I just got out of retail."
That was the final thing that was said before the slug penetrated the deadite's head causing him to explode. Ash moved away from the deadite, picking up his gauntlet on the way, and made his way to the two.
"Thanks for the assist."
"Hey, you were doing alright until we came along."
"Damn straight."
"I know I said good luck earlier but I have a feeling, you'll be just fine."
Ash simply smirked at that as he nodded to the two and headed back to his car.
His hands on the steering wheel, the car roaring to life as the two waved before reentering the closed shop.
"Let's get this show on the road."
(Oh as for the timeline, I decided that it takes place in the now. So as of right now, that's when this story takes place. Weird I know but I'll have an explanation for the timeline and for why Ash remembers different versions of the cabin. I.E. the wonky timeline of the original trilogy. Expanding the lore of my fanfiction in this chapter. Not too much action but it's interesting. Also let me know what you think of the new character I've added to this story! Like him? Don't like him? I'd like to know either way!
I don't have much to say this time around but I do have a question. For those who have watched Ash Vs Evil Dead (For those who haven't, go watch it now. It's literally perfection!), do you think I should add Pablo and Kelly to this story? I'm not sure if I should but I've been thinking about it. Let me know!
But that's enough about that! I hope you enjoyed this chapter! Nothing really else to say here but I hope you guys enjoy this! Enjoy! I really enjoyed your guys' requests and comments! Send requests, kudos, comments, love, suggestions, ladies, fanart if you're imposed, and keep being awesome! Till next time!)
