Chapter 12

.

70 years later

.

Jason was still guarding the Hollow, he had another 30 years before he could resume his rule of the Underworld. He had placed Zankhou in charge in his absence. Zankhou was smart enough to realize he couldn't overthrow Jason without being destroyed himself, but capable of independant thought and judgement. Zankhou also visited this place sometimes, keeping Jason informed of any developments. Good and Evil were enjoying a relative period of peace, demons didn't interfere too much in human affairs, but did aid those who asked. Good was gaining the upper hand, wars and plagues were largely dying out, people were abandoning prejudice. Poverty and crime had fallen to record lows, and the damage caused by climate change had largely been repaired. Jason wanted to do some damage when he was released, but that would have to wait another 30 years. At the moment he was observing as the avatar played chess with Gideon. It had taken decades, but the white lighters again trusted him to guard the Hollow. At the very east he understood how dangerous the Hollow was, why it needed to be contained. Then an unexpected person came to this sacred place, Pamela. It had been 70 years since he had seen her, but she looked the same. Jason realized why this was. They went to a corner to talk in private.

.

Jason: You're dead, aren't you?

Pam: Yeah. I lived to be over 100, and died peacefully surrounded by grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jason: I'm glad you had a rich full life. I take it you became a white lighter, makes sense. Zankhou told me about some of your peace initiatives. The peace between Israel and Iran, actual elections in North Korea.

Pam: I can't take all the credit for that, but it was nice of the elders to restore my youth. Ofcourse I wouldn't have objected to them taking another ten years off.

Jason: I think you look beautiful. Not that I'm complaining, but why are you here?

Pam: To guard the Hollow.

Jason: I can understand why some still don't trust Gideon. But if they just wanted another white lighter here, they could have sent others.

Pam: It's only 30 years before you leave here, maybe they think I can get information about your plans before then.

Jason: Maybe. But maybe a part of you wanted to be here for other reasons.

Pam: Maybe. The last demon who guarded this place actually sacrificed his ife for the world, and achieved redemption.

Jason: You actually think I can be redeemed?

Pam: Why not?

Jason: I supposse it's possible, but unlikely. At any rate we have 30 years until I leave. However will we pass the time?

Pam: I can think of a few ways.

Jason: So can I. This should be an interesting 30 years.
