The music of a bar played softly in the background as different customers drank, played pool, conversed, and argued all the like. A simple bar in the midwest, nothing too special about this one. The bar looked the way you'd think it would and the people looked the way you'd think they'd look.
Among these individuals, one sat at the bar holding an empty glass at the counter. His eyes bored into the clear cup as his hands clutched it. A scruffier looking individual with long, dirty blonde hair and an unkept beard.
"Lem, what are you doing?"
Said man was snapped out of his trance as his gaze turned up to the bartender who was cleaning a glass. His gaze was full of concern and worry as Lem simply let out a scoff.
"Just trying to stay away from the booze, that's all."
The bartender set down the cup as his arms crossed in judgment.
"Then what the hell are you doing here? It's great that you're trying to stay off the bottle, but staying near the temptation isn't going to help! You're always welcome here but I'm just worried."
"Well, I'll be fine! Alright? I've been doing this for two weeks. Thanks but you don't need to worry about me."
The man stared at him for a minute before nodding and leaving Lem to his business.
"But if you need any-"
"I know. I know."
Barren silence followed the lone man before he was knocked out of his thoughts once again, this time by a phone ringing. A groan escaped his lips as he fished out his phone and answered the phone.
"Hello?"
"Lem! Buddy! How you been?"
"Who is this?"
"Who is this? You don't remember me? I'm a little hurt by that."
"Ash?"
"Ding ding. Your old buddy is on his way to town."
Lem licked his lips in slight anger as the glass was set down and he put all his focus on the call.
"All this time, you barely give a call and now you're just on your way like this? What, you need something from me?"
"Yeah."
"Yeah, you're on your way here or you need something?"
"Yeah."
Ash heard the sigh from the other side of the call and immediately responded.
"Hey hey! No sighing from you Lem! I've helped with a lot of different things when we were younger! Even if a lot of the time, they got me in trouble. I just need some weapons from your little militia group! That's all."
"That's all?"
"That's all. I'm kind of on a tight schedule but we can talk later afterward if you want. That sound good?"
Lem thought for a moment before a small smile formed onto his face.
"Yeah. That sounds good."
"Knew you'd be a great help! I'll see you there. Also, make sure to put in a good word for me with your buddies. I know the last time I went there wasn't the greatest first impression."
Lem winced at the memory before nodding.
"Sure thing. See you then."
The phone clicked, the call ending as Lem set the glass on the table and rose from his seat. While he was feeling a bit moody from his lack of alcohol, the idea of seeing Ash and goofing off like the old days brought a smile to him.
He made his way through the bar before the door shut behind him as he stood outside. The second the door was shut all sound seemed to disappear. Lem surveyed the area and put his hands in his pockets as he went to his car.
A snap was heard, causing Lem to quickly turn around in fear. Nothing. Not a single thing was there. He rubbed his face as he laid out a little slap to his face to try and calm himself down.
"It's the withdrawal. It's the withdrawal. It's the withdrawal…"
Those were the last words that were said before he entered his car and started it. The snap was heard again and the only thing that was heard then was Lem's screams.
Ash kept in an intense staring contest with a deer head hung up on a tree before making a face of small disgust.
"Dude, you fugly."
Ash looked around the woods, his hands holding a large, black duffel bag. He did have to admit these guys were a bit…twitchy. They weren't the smartest people around, nor were they the ones he'd trust with a bunch of guns.
Ash really did hope that Lem's good word would be enough for them to not treat Ash that harshly. How was he supposed to know that it was a canister that shot out explosions? Plus, it's not his fault that it landed on a good portion of their guns.
A chuckle escaped his lips as it was kind of funny. His metallic hand gripped the duffel bag before swinging it around his body as he made his way deeper into the woods.
Despite still being alive through everything, he still wasn't that comfortable being in them. The way every branch seemed jagged like it was a blade, how every base of the tree seemed to have a face that stared directly into his soul.
'No, no no…the woods themselves- the trees- they're alive!..'
The words of his sister rang through his mind, causing him to shudder slightly as he continued to walk. Every sound seemed like it could be something dangerous. Every twig snapping, every bird whistling, every animalistic sound just made the atmosphere of the world worse.
Back then Ash would've been a lot more jumpy but with his newly given sense, he knew that it was nothing but the woods. If there was something Evil here, he'd know it.
Ash suddenly came to a halt. Like that. His hand dug quickly into the duffel bag, pulling out the Boomstick and immediately getting his guard up. Nothing was heard for a moment before a gut wrenching cry was let out.
Ash shook his head as he quickly made his way to the origin of the scream, Boomstick ready to blow up whatever was in his way. He was done running. If there was something evil out there, he wasn't going to wait for it to try and kill him while he was scared. He was facing it head on.
"HELP! SOMEONE PLEASE!"
Ash came to a halt as he saw the sight before him and bent down on one knee. One of the men was ripped clean in half vertically, his organs and intestines spilling out staining the ground beneath them. The other with a large, deep gash in his stomach area, struggling to stay awake.
"Alright buddy just calm down. I'll be able to get you some help."
Ash went to apply pressure to the wound before the man made a pained grunt causing him to jerk back. His ragged and inconsistent breathing was the only thing consistent about it.
"Please! Just k-kill me!"
"Listen, I'm not gonna kill you. You're going into shock but you're gonna be just fine."
'Probably not.'
Ash thought as he winced before going to try and apply pressure on the wound.
"GET AWAY FROM HIM! HE'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS ISN'T HE?! HE'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS!"
Ash was caught off guard as several men with advanced weaponry came in with horrified looks on their faces. Ash went to say something before a bullet hit the man in the head, causing blood to splatter on Ash's face. Well, it wouldn't be the first time.
The handcuffs jiggled as Ash looked at his restrained hands before looking at the group of armed men in front of him. They looked like how you would expect them to. Seven rednecks, drugged out, twitchy, and definitely people who shouldn't be around heavy weapons.
Thankfully, none of them seemed to really notice who exactly he was regardless of the news or what happened those years ago. Though granted, that was when they were a bit younger. Though granted, he was sure that none of these dudes watched the news.
An older bearded man walked up to him with a hard glare before speaking.
"How you doing?"
"That supposed to be some kind of fucking joke?"
"More like a light-hearted question."
"Well here's a hard-hearted question. What the fuck were you doing roaming around my camp?"
Ash raised up his handcuffed hands in mock defense.
"Uh sorry. I seem to have found you gentlemen at something of an inconvenient time. I'm just looking for my buddie Lem. He said you would help me out."
A silence followed his sentence as they looked at each other with concern and fear as the older man turned his gaze back to Ash.
"You know Lem?"
Ash let out a scoff and a chuckle as he looked around for a second.
"Course I know Lem, he's a good friend of mine. I called him at the diner, he invited me here."
"Hey. You look familiar. What's your name?"
Shit.
"Me? Scotty."
Sudden loud rumbling was heard on the top of the building causing each of the men to train their guns at the ceiling.
"Fuck! He's back!"
Ash turned his head to raise an exaggerated eyebrow.
"He?"
The older gentleman's eyes made his way from the ceiling back to Ash.
"Lem."
"'Lem' Lem?"
"He made it back to camp around an hour ago. At first I thought he was drinking again. Then he started…tearing people apart."
"Oh boy."
Ash responded, flexing his jaw in the process.
"His eyes were all white and crazy, he looked like a fucking monster!"
Of course he did.
"We gotta get the fuck out of here."
"I wouldn't be roaming around anywhere if I were you."
"What the hell do you know?!"
Ash soon rose to his height slightly being taller than the man at 6'2.
"Let me dumb it down for you, Boss. What's out there knows that you're alive, and it wants you to be…unalive!"
Another bump was heard causing everyone to look at the ceiling in reflex.
The supposed leader leaned in close, staring at Ash with cold, blue eyes.
"I know exactly what we're dealing with here! Big brother put a virus in our air supply-turned Lem into some sort of…mummy!"
"That's a new one."
"Yeah but we were ready for it."
One of the self-proclaimed soldiers said, holding up a gas mask tightly that was strapped to his neck.
"Were you? Okay. Wow. You guys are survivalists. Here's how you survive. Give me my weapons back and get the fuck out of my way!"
"I'M GONNA GET YOU!"
"Well why don't you come in and try it motherfucker?! Huh?!"
One of the more scared individuals among them suddenly screamed out in a panic.
The rumbling and rustling continued for a moment before there was a knock at the door. The men stared at the door before one of them gulped and made his way over there.
He hesitated for a moment before suddenly opening the door and training his gun at it. The sunlight breaking through the door as he turned quickly with his gun held up. He suddenly looked smug before gesturing to the door carelessly.
"Nothing."
That was the last thing said before he was suddenly yanked out the door, causing blood to splatter all over the floor and wall leading into the building.
"Shit!"
Several of the soldiers followed after him and started shooting immediately at the bunker on the other side of the camp, the metal door suddenly slamming shut.
"That's our cue to leave!"
Ash said as he went to run to the backdoor before gunshots suddenly hit the top of the doorframe. He turned around to see them with their guns trained on him.
"You're not going anywhere."
Ash's sudden point of view was him tumbling down into a cellar. Normally, he was all up for nostalgia but cellars were just not his thing.
"Maybe your old friend Lem will find you down there. Enjoy."
The double doors closing was the final thing he saw before seeing darkness.
"Shove it up yours Lieutenant Asshole."
Ash got to his feet as he tried to survey his surroundings. It wasn't total darkness which was good but he knew he wasn't alone. He had to figure out a way out of here and fast.
Ash got to moving and went to go see if there was anything of use. Nothing was looking too good before he was met with a tight space to squeeze through. He turned sideways and began making his way before his sense went off and was face to face with Lem.
"Nice to see you Ash!"
"Can't really say the same."
The deadite man's toothy smile turned into an exaggerated frown as he looked down before looking back at Ash.
"You never drank with me. You always just ran off when it came to it. Maybe you'll drink with me now!"
Ash was soon splashed with a liquid by Lem who soon lit off a match. Not a lot as some was sent to the floor.
"Lem don-"
He was cut off as the match was thrown, setting the floor ablaze, causing Ash to move back and make it through the tight space and run off. Lem didn't waste any time as he simply crushed his way through.
"I'M GONNA GET YOUUUUU!"
The militia were soon packing into a truck before they turned and saw one more of their crew walking up to him.
"Come on! We don't know if there's any more of them out here!"
"Not now. There will be!"
Their faces turned to horror as they noticed the bloody state of the man as he suddenly grabbed one by the throat and ripped out his jugular.
The deadite gripped a large hunting knife and stabbed into the vehicles' tires. They trained their weapons on them before it simply laughed uncannily and crawled up into the trees.
"Fuck!"
"We're gonna fucking die!"
"Everyone calm down! There's only one of him and Lem's probably going to make quick work of pretty boy in the cellar. We will make it out."
The older man said as they all nervously nodded and hopped out of the truck, waiting for his command to keep moving. The signal was about to be given before several bullets sprayed down upon them, making their group from four to two.
Their guns were aimed at the trees once more as they let their bullets fly while trying to make it to cover. The uncanny laughter followed them as they made their way back into the cabin and shut the door immediately behind them.
Blue eyes peeked out the window blinds as they didn't see any sign of the reanimated soldier. He turned to his remaining companion who was slightly shaking.
"Y-You think we should get that guy down there? H-He s-seemed to know what we're dealing with."
"No. Even if I wanted to get him, which I don't, he's probably already dead if he's stuck down there with Lem. We'll just have to hold off and wait for a moment to strike. These things don't like to wait long. It'll come for us soon enough and we'll be ready."
The soldier would've nodded meekly at that if it weren't for the other corpses outside rising as well. The two looked on in horror as they soon made their way into the trees as well with only one making the way to the cabin.
"Shit. Ok, look we're going t-"
The man was cut off as the frightened soldier opened the door suddenly and shot directly at the deadite with a battle cry before quickly shutting the door once more.
The chief looked at him in surprise before letting out an amused chuckle and slapping him on the shoulder, surprising the younger man but still causing a smile to grow.
"Yes! That is the shit that we need right now!"
Disgusting roaring was heard as Ash ran through the barely lit underground complex. Being handcuffed definitely wasn't helping him anyhow.
"ASH! THE MORE YOU RUN, THE WORSE YOUR DEATH WILL BE! YOU WILL SUFFER!"
"I've already suffered enough, Lem! I had to go to college!"
Ash soon saw a crack of light that wasn't artificial and smiled before realizing that it was blocked by a chain gate.
"Fuck me!"
He quickly surveyed his area before his eyes settled on a hefty pickaxe. Ash grabbed it and soon started hacking at the lock before it fell apart. He went to open the door before quickly turning around to see Lem standing at the end of the hallway.
"Let's party!"
He soon engulfed a large amount of diesel fuel and ran at Ash with no hint of stopping which soon caused Ash to hack him, slicing his stomach open and causing a lot of gasoline, intestines, and blood to pour out.
"You just got off of alcohol Lem, why'd you switch to another poison?"
The handcuffed man exclaimed as he slid through the fences quickly and climbed up the stairs to try and force the door open but it wouldn't budge. Soon getting an idea Ash turned to see Lem already at the bottom of the steps. Perfect.
"Hey Lem! I've got nowhere to go! Come and get me!"
Lem licked his lips as he stared with his soulless, white eyes and sprung into the air, causing Ash to duck down the stairs. Lem looked back down as he continued flying up and Ash winked.
"How nice of you to open the door for me."
Due to the increased strength given by the deadite possession, the door flung open and Lem fell straight to the ground. Ash soon ran out only to see that the rest of the soldiers were gone but a lot of blood near the trucks.
Ash ran back into the cabin before being forced against the wall and held at gunpoint.
"You!"
Ash didn't hesitate a second as his fist connected with the younger soldier's face and he was disarmed, his gun pointed at his head.
"You wanna listen to me now?"
Ash asked, looking at the white haired militia member who looked at the situation before lowering his gun.
"Good."
Ash pushed the man away but kept onto the gun and noticed his duffel bag still right where they left it. The semi-automatic was slung around his chest before he opened the bag, equipping the Boomstick and the Chainsaw and looking at the two remaining soldiers who looked at him in confusion.
"Who…the hell are you?"
Ash simply smirked.
"Are you serious?"
"Yup. These are demons from an evil book that was read in a cabin in the woods. Now they're here to destroy humanity and I'm the one who's supposed to stop them."
"You? The guy who nearly blew up half my camp when he didn't listen and kept his hands to himself."
"Believe me, I didn't believe it either but here we are."
"W-What are we going to do? They're still out there!"
"If I know deadites and I'm sure I do, they're not going to leave. They're going to try and hunt us one by one. We can't split up. They're going to try and pretend to be normal and perfectly ok to mess with our heads. Don't fall for it. Now, let me know if any of them have any guns?"
The elder went to the blinds and noticed all the guns were still there except for the one in the tree.
"The guns are still there. Only one has a gun in the trees."
"Alright so we aim for the trees."
"Why are you helping us? We nearly left you to die. You could've just left."
"Well as satisfying as that may sound, I still came here for a reason. Plus, I'd rather not have a bunch of deadites still alive roaming here so there's also that."
Ash replied, looking through the cabinets before finding it. A large, green canister that Ash gripped tightly.
"You know where to fire it this time?"
Ash looked at the old man before chuckling.
"Your camp's not going to get blown up that badly. Promise."
Ash pulled back the canister and had his finger, ready to push the button when the time came. The three men made their way to the door and looked at each other seriously before nodding. Three, two, one.
They all ran out of the cabin screaming as Ash pushed the button with the weapon aimed at the trees. The explosive went off, causing the deadites to fall. The gun that they were carrying was damaged in the process so that took out the more difficult threat.
They wasted no time as they immediately rushed in to fight. Ash shot a deadite's head clean off before slamming the spinning blade into another's head, causing red, crimson blood to gush and splatter everywhere.
The two soldiers were shooting at the deadite's back to back creating so many holes in them, they might as well be swish cheese. Ash was knocked to the ground by a deadite only for it to be littered with bullets by the older man. They both nodded and got to work.
The last deadite was cut down to pieces and they all looked at their work happy with themselves. Ash's sense wasn't going down however, but he soon realized why.
"ASH! TIME FOR THAT DRINK!"
The three looked at Lem who was smiling widely at them. The two went to shoot him before Ash held his hand up, remembering what Lem was covered in. Plus, he was his friend so he did have to do it.
Ash took the semi-automatic off his back and aimed directly at Lem who only sprinted towards him.
"Sorry Lem. Maybe you and I can have that drink in another life."
That was the final thing said as Ash squeezed the trigger, the bullet hitting the diesel covered Lem who was immediately set ablaze. The three watched as the deadite shook and screamed before going silent, falling limp to the ground.
A sigh was let go as Ash's radar finally went off as the last deadite in this area was put to rest. He turned to the men who stared at him before the elder man raised his hand to Ash who shook it in return.
"Now, let's talk about why I came here."
Ash pulled his car in and immediately began taking from the large haul that they had. Handguns, semi-automatics, shotguns, knives, a machete, an axe, etc. He turned his gaze before his eyes rested on a large silver trailer that he pointed to.
"That as well."
The trailer was soon hooked up to his car which complimented it pretty well if he said so himself. Ash packed the materials inside before looking at the men once more and shook both their hands.
"Good luck."
"Thanks. Also whatever you hear on the news about me isn't true. I think this kind of proves it."
"Whatever you say kid."
Ash smirked before heading into the car and driving off as the two watched him leave.
"Who was he?"
The younger man asked as the other stared at Ash's car becoming smaller and smaller as it gained distance from them.
"Our savior. Maybe not the one we want but it's the one we got."
Ash drove down the road as night fell upon him. He trailed off the road into a secluded area and made it into the large trailer.
It was big and had a lot of space, even a bathroom. He set the authentic viking helmet down on a shelf and laid down on the bed.
Sure, it wasn't really his just yet but he'd get to that when it came to it. He placed his hands on his head as he stared up at the ceiling. There was something bothering him about that camp however. Like something wasn't all right with it.
Eh. He'd worry about it later in the morning. He's got the weapons, he's got the base of operations, and he's got the information. Only thing he doesn't have is a new hand. But it's fine time this "Chosen One" started hunting things other than deadites. But as said, that would be left for morning.
The two men sat at a desk in the cabin as they took a drink with music playing softly.
"What are we…going to do about the bodies?"
The older man sighed as he took another sip before gritting his teeth in thought.
"We'll give them all a burial tomorrow. For now, just try to relax."
The younger one nodded as he took another sip before the lights started to dim and flicker. They looked in confusion before they heard the door open only to see a strong-jawed woman step in.
"Ah, a burial. How noble. Though you did almost kill your only hope in the process of getting to this point. So I can't say I'm all that impressed. Her silvery, blue eyes stared directly in their soul as she stepped closer.
"Look ma'am. We can explain but you can't be in her-Uck!"
The younger man was halted in his words as he bent down to see her head straight through his chest. Her hand gripping his still beating heart from the other side before crushing it. She pulled her now bloody arm out and looked at the man with a intrigued smirk as his gun was trained on her.
"Go ahead."
She said as her eyes flashed to inky black as he began firing at her. His bullets were clearly penetrating and going through her but she still remained standing. Parts of her were gone from being absolutely decimated from the storm of bullets including a part of her jaw which revealed bone.
She simply smirked as her wounds began to heal to the point where it looked like she was never even harmed to begin with. She continued her walk towards him as he tried butting her with the gun before she grabbed it and snapped it half.
It didn't stop there as she grabbed his arm and snapped it clean in half before stomping on his ankle, crushing it to the point of the bone protruding out of his body. He screamed as he fell to the floor and began trying to crawl away from the woman before she was soon right next to him. Her face merely inches away from his, her hands placed firmly on his neck and head.
"What are you? W-Who are you?!"
He screamed out as she simply closed her eyes with a smirk and looked down before looking at him again.
"They just call me Ruby."
A snap then silence.
(Hey! So it's been a while! We've gotten a lot more kudos and comments which is good! I've finally got another chapter out which is very much inspired by Fire In The Hole. The seventh episode of Ash Vs Evil Dead! I think I added enough for it to be different!
Next chapter I'm thinking of adding in Pablo and Kelly! I'm thinking Ash is going to fight something that isn't a deadite! You know to shake things up and for him to start getting that experience!
Plus, give me suggestions for the ladies that you want Ash to be paired up with! I'm putting them on my drawing board to see who's in and out! I've already gotten Laurie from Halloween! As for the crossover, it will happen but it's a slowburn! I'm working to it!
But that's enough about that! I hope you enjoyed this chapter! Nothing really else to say here but I hope you guys enjoy this! Enjoy! I really enjoyed your guys' requests and comments! Send requests, kudos, comments, love, suggestions, ladies, fanart if you're imposed, and keep being awesome! Till next time!)
