Chapter 52:
The day passed slowly, to say the least. There was nothing to do. No one dared to get out of their car and the activities that were normally offered in this type of trip had been canceled due to the circumstances. Julia had therefore stayed in her compartment all day – except for the bathroom – and had read a book that she had taken with her and had not yet had the opportunity to start.
Finally, Julia sighed and decided to go for a walk in the corridors, in order to see something other than her compartment. She looked at her pocket watch. It was already almost late afternoon, and she thought sadly that William still had not received the warrant to search the compartments. They absolutely had to get it before tomorrow afternoon so that William had time to search the compartments before they arrived in Toronto.
As she was walking quietly towards one of the dining cars to have a drink, she suddenly passed William in one of the hallways.
"Oh! William!" she laughed.
"Hello miss. I don't think I had the pleasure?" he joked.
He approached and kissed her hand, which made the young woman blush.
"Julia Ogden. To whom do I have the honor my dear sir?" Julia played straight into the game.
"William Murdoch, but you can call me William." he smiled playfully as he approached her.
"Mr. Murdoch...I'm not sure my companion would appreciate your conduct..."
"Your companion? So, you have a lover… How lucky." he declaimed good-humoredly. "Can you still show me a glimpse of what you're doing to him?"
Julia then approached her lover and kissed him passionately, a kiss to which the young man immediately responded with enthusiasm. She felt the tongue of the young man asking for entry, which she gladly accepted. She felt his hands land on her lower hips, and she moved even closer to him if that was possible.
Suddenly, they heard a clearing of the throat and a laugh that caused them to separate quickly and step out of their little bubble of comfort.
"Inspector! Margaret! You…I…" William began, not really knowing what to say, uncomfortably.
"Oh, no, no but carry on, we're just passing by." laughed Brackenreid, taking the arm of his wife, who had flushed cheeks from the scene she had just witnessed.
Besides, she nudged her husband to prevent him from continuing to say anything.
Julia blushed too and turned her head towards the landscape, in embarrassment. Then she heard footsteps, and she turned her head again to the Brackenreids to give them a slight smile. Then she remembered something.
"Oh, how is John?" she asked suddenly.
"Perfectly well, thank you Doctor Ogden. Medication really does him good." smiled Margaret. "It's nice to ask."
Julia nodded classily, her light blue hat with white feathers adorning her head.
"Everything is fine?" William whispered once the Brackenreids had slipped away.
She nodded slightly, her cheeks still blushing a little. He approached and kissed her cheek before smiling softly at her.
"Where were you going?" he asked curiously.
"At dining car number two. I wanted to have a little drink and read my book."
"Am I going with you?"
"With pleasure." she smiled happily.
Note: A cute little moment Jilliam haha!
