Chapter 55:
When Julia got off the train, she could not say goodbye to William. The day before they slept together as if it were a routine, they made love as an exciting habit, and the next day they left each other without saying goodbye… Would it be just like that? The young woman had asked herself this question several times, but she knew that it was not that. She knew that sooner or later they would meet again. He would come to see her at work or vice versa. The concern was who was working when. In the worst case, she would go to Station 4 every day until she ran into him.
She had returned home. She had taken her suitcases and, when the door of her house had been opened by Alfred, one of her servants, she had felt totally different. When she went on vacation, she felt sad and lonely. And now that she was coming back, she was happy. She had never felt so good. Someone was waiting for her outside. The love of her life was waiting for her somewhere in this town and it was a wonderful feeling.
She had smiled a grandiose smile, her necklace offered by William adorning her neck, and she had seen at the head of her employees who were waiting for her to help her put her things away, that they had not recognized her.
"Are you all right, Miss Ogden?" Monica had then asked her.
"Perfectly well. And you?" she smiled at her again.
"Yes..." laughed her employee lightly, her eyes full of confusion.
She then went up to her room and quietly put away her things before going to bed. Against all odds, well she was working the next day. Normally, she should have come back the day before and she would have had a day to rest, but this was different. She had to go back the next day.
When she arrived at work the next morning, she decided to come on time. Not ahead. On time. And again, when she landed, she felt wonderful. She no longer saw the disapproving looks of some. In fact, she did not care anymore. She had nothing to prove. She was a doctor like it or not. She walked with a sure step, moving her hips and she felt the gazes of some doctors turned towards her. She smiled; she really did not care.
"Ah Doctor Ogden! Wait!"
She turned around and saw Matthew Belford, the head of this hospital running behind her with a raised hand. She stopped.
"Oh! Doctor Belford!" she gave him a beautiful smile.
The man stopped in front of her and stood frozen for a few moments, taken aback.
"You look… radiant. These vacations seem to have done you good." he smiled gently at her.
"Yes, it was wonderful vacations."
"And… We heard in the hospital what you did on The Winter Mist. Everyone was very impressed…" he said, walking beside her down the hall.
He gallantly put his hand on her back to step forward with her, but Julia subtly slid aside for him to pull his hand away.
"I don't know if you're telling the truth." Julia joked. "But it's nice."
"Well, let's say those who still had doubts about your abilities questioned themselves." he smiled.
Julia said nothing but laughed lightly.
"Well, Julia, it's good to see you again, I'll let you get to work."
The young woman nodded as Doctor Belford slipped away on the right and she went to her office on the left.
When she closed her office door behind her, she smiled. This day was going to be great.
Note: Looks like Julia is finally breathing after all these years! She is happy! Thanks for reading :)
