Magic.

Discovered in the early nineteenth century, magic was a miracle. Although from historical point of view, the practice of magic had existed since the beginning of time. On the early days before the industrial revolution, magic was something taboo. Just mentioning magic could get you killed. The reason was simple, asset protection. Imagine a God walking and living beside you. People were afraid of another tyrant. Industrial revolution made people believe in technology.

To modern people, magic was nothing more but that.

Technology for special people.

As magic gained recognition, government started supporting the advancement of magic for the advancement of society. Granted, some country distrust magic and banned the practice of it but they were minorities. Japan was one of the countries that highly support magic. They need magic to trade for the lack of their resources. With abundant population, they could easily train seedlings of magicians.

So, magic high school was born.

It was an education institution made to train young magician and of course, to teach Japan national value. First Magic High School was one of the best magic high schools in Japan. Many who graduated there managed to enter prestigious magic institutions.

Dio chose that school.

The reason? He chose it randomly. Anywhere in Japan was fine for him. Dio even considered a normal high school. He just wanted to have a fun high school life.

"Hm, smaller than I expected."

In front of First High School building, Dio made that comment.

"I think this school is big enough though. Is it different in Germany?"

"Yeah. Magic schools are generally super big, rivaling some of the best normal universities in Germany. It's more like a little city rather than a school."

"Whoa, seriously?"

Miyuki looked really surprised.

"Yeah, that's why I was surprised when I saw First High."

"Miyuki! Tatsuya! We arrived at the same time today."

A girl with red hair approached them with a grin on her face. She seemed familiar with Tatsuya and Miyuki. The girl looked boyish with her short hairstyle but she also looked cute at the same time. Like Tatsuya, she had an empty emblem on her left chest.

"Ah, Erika. Good morning."

"Morning, Miyuki. Morning Tatsuya. He is…?" Erika looked at Dio curiously. Her eyes were full of judgment.

Dio knew her, her name to be specific. His uncle mentioned the name several times but Dio know nothing of the context.

"Nice to meet you, Erika, right? My name is Dio Rosen." Said Dio with smile. He looked unsure whether he should offer his handshake or not. Should I or should I not? Dio was in the process of adapting to Japanese custom.

"Rosen…? Are you from Germany?"

Somehow, there was a sad tone in Erica's voice.

"Yes, I am a transfer student from Germany."

"I see, so you're from the Rosen family." Whispered Erika.

"Um, is there any problem?" Feeling confused, Dio tilted his head a little.

"No, there is nothing wrong. Hahaha…" She made a weak laugh but the three of them could tell there was something bothering Erika. "Anyway, let's go to class before we're late. I have a lot of questions for you later so you better don't run away. Meet us at the canteen during lunch."

"Sure." Dio answered with a cheerful smile.

"Wait a minute, which class are you on?"

"Class A it seems but I need to report to the faculty first."

"As expected of the Rosen."

"Haha, unfortunately, it had nothing to do with the Rosen."

"Hah?"

Dio just smiled without answering Erika's confusion. "Anyway, I'm going to the faculty first. See you guys later." Dio walked a few steps but immediately come back. "Anyone know where the faculty is?"

"…"

"…"

During lunch, Dio met with Tatsuya and Erika at the canteen. With his agile movements, Dio easily escape his classmates. He also wanted to spend some times with his classmates but he already made promise to Erika.

"Dio-kun! Over here!" Erika waved her hand and called Dio loudly without an ounce of shame. Dio approached their table with his bowl of curry udon.

"Yo, you guys fast."

"Hehehe, that's obvious."

"This girl ran as soon as the bell rang." Said a youth with a big body. Not big as in fat but bulky. He looked physically strong. He sat beside Tatsuya, facing Erika.

"Ugh, Leo, please. Details like that are not necessary."

"Just stating the fact."

"Sure, sure, whatever."

"C'mon, don't fight, Erika-chan, Leo-kun."

The glasses girl beside Erika tried to cool the atmosphere but failed. She had a beautiful face and a fair skin. Her black hair was cut short in bob style, but a just a bit longer. She wore glasses, something very rare in a developed country. Eyes surgery had become easier and easier that glasses were just for style but the girl surely had other reason. Her pushion is focused on her eyes. Dio noticed her special eyes but decide to ignore it.

"You guys get along pretty well."

Dio made a joke to Erika instead.

"We're not."

They both shouted in unison.

"Haha…" Dio laughed heartily at their response.

"Where is Miyuki?" Asked Tatsuya before Dio could ask about the boy beside Tatsuya.

"Ah, right. She was cornered at every angle by her classmates. She told me she will come after finishing her task as the class monitor. She was registering something on her terminal but I'm not so sure."

"I see…"

"Are you worried?"

Dio noticed that Tatsuya was a bit, no, too attached to Miyuki. They looked like husband and wife rather than sibling. Then again, even a household couple were not that attached. Well, at least in Germany. Maybe Japan had different culture. Dio thought to himself.

"No, she can handle herself."

"Right." Dio didn't press any further. "Anyway, what is your name? My name is Dio Rosen. Nice to meet you!" Dio switched his attention to the guy beside Tatsuya.

"Rosen…? My name is Saijou Leonhard. You can call me Leo. Nice to meet you too, Dio. Your Japanese is quite good. I almost thought you were a Japanese if not for your blonde hair."

"Haha, thanks. I always wanted to go to Japan. So, I practiced a lot back home."

"Dio-kun, do you like Japan that much?" Asked Erika.

"Yeah! I love manga and anime. The culture too. This country is technically the root of my power."

"The root of your power?"

Dio smiled and ignored the question. Instead, he asked for the glasses girl's name. She looked really shy. The girl wanted to announce herself but keep getting drowned by the conversation. "And you are? What is your name?"

"Shibata Mizuki. Nice to meet you, Rosen-kun."

"Mizuki, is it? Just call me Dio."

"M-mizuki…"

The girl was shocked when Dio called her by her first name directly, without any honorific. Her face went red from shyness. And… her chests are bigger than Miyuki's. His eyes drawn towards Mizuki chests naturally.

"Did I get it wrong…?"

"No, no, no! You're not wrong…" Said Mizuki in a very small voice that almost sounded like a whisper.

"Dio-kun, you should be careful because my friend here is very shy."

Erika grinned while hugging Mizuki.

"It's nothing like that, Erika-chan."

"Hehe."

"… How nostalgic." Dio whispered. He also joked around with his friend before being shot in his previous life.

"Onii-sama!"

A sweet voice announced her presence. This voice obviously belonged to Miyuki. She walked to her brother with a beaming smile on her face. She was being surrounded by her classmates.

"Oh, Miyuki! Come and sit here with us."

Said Erika, enthusiastic as always.

"Sure—"

"Tch, damn weed…" A boy whispered loudly.

"What did you say?" Asked Erika spontaneously.

"I said you're all weed!" The guy shouted. Everyone there looked at him. The noisy canteen became quiet in an instant. The guy didn't have any intention to stop. "Shiba-san, I think you shouldn't get too close to them. Your reputation could be at stake!" He tried to convince Miyuki with his believes. Weed was a slur for course two student like Tatsuya and Erika. Course two was originally made as the reserve for course one student should they fail. They were underestimated even though the gap wasn't that huge. And the slur weed had been banned since a long time ago by the school but no real punishment was given to the rule breaker.

Cold—

Dio felt cold so suddenly. As if a breeze of north pole wind passed him. It's coming from Miyuki. So, this is her power, huh? Similar to Rukia's. Gotta do something before thing escalates.

Dio remembered the guy.

"Morisaki Shun, right?"

"Huh, what are... Dio... why are you with them?"

He was shocked when he realized Dio was with them.

"Why not?"

Dio was calm. He answered Morisaki's question with his own question, a rhetorical question that need no answer. Of course, Morisaki wasn't smart enough to understand the implication behind the question. It basically meant, "Fuck off."

"T-that's because they're course two! They are not worthy of our time."

"That really coming from a bodyguard? Did you treat your non-magician clients like that, Morisaki... kun?"

Morisaki introduced himself to Dio earlier in the morning. Morisaki Shun came from a family of bodyguard. They were quite famous in Japan. Dio also found out from his classmate that Morisaki himself did a trial job to protect the CEO of a certain company, a non-magician.

"I..."

He looked frustrated, unable to answer.

"Tch…"

Morisaki left the canteen in defeat. He clenched his hand and look at Tatsuya with hatred. Yes, not towards Dio but Tatsuya. Everyone surrounding Miyuki also left, following Morisaki. Dio still unable to understand his hatred towards course two students.

"Maybe he has some stories to tell…" He whispered.

"Ugh, what's his problem? We didn't even bother anyone. He must've some screws loose."

Erika complained while hugging herself. Her face looked sour.

"Erika-chan, that's going too far."

"Gosh, Mizuki is too kind."

She hugged Mizuki again.

"E-erika-chan." She complained but didn't resist. Well, maybe she resisted but softly.

"Miyuki, come and sit with us!"

She said energetically while tapping the empty seat beside her. Actually, their seat was full but Erika managed to make some room. Miyuki did not hesitate to sit. "Excuse me then." She said softly. "Dio-kun, thank you for earlier." She continued.

"But I did nothing."

"No, thank you…"

"Okay then." Dio reluctantly accepted her gratitude.

"Yeah, you did good making that point. I mean, what kind of bodyguard looks down on his client?" Erika was not done with her tantrum. "Like he is any better than us in a fight… Hmph!"

"… Erika is energetic as always." Said Dio.

"Am not!"

"Even though we all should be friend…" Said Mizuki in a small voice.

"True. Trauma from the past maybe?"

"Maybe…"

That lunch ended with a good note.

Next chapter is a fight. Also, the story might branch from the original. I don't want to copy the original too much.
