Dio started playing a certain card game.
Before going to local, he tried the online version to familiarize himself with the game. "This game is so complicated but very interesting." He said while going to school. His route to school was simple but it took him thirty minutes to arrive there. Most of the times, he preferred to walk instead of taking public transportation. He loved the scenery.
"Wait a minute, you're Dio Rosen, right?"
"Hmm…?"
Dio looked to the voice calling his name.
"Good morning." The girl said softly.
Dio knew her. He met her yesterday during The Morisaki Incident (Dio made the title). She was the beautiful girl who came and questioned them. She waved her hand while smiling. Her hair was fluttering in the wind along with petals of sakura tree. The girl tried to hold down her hair until the wind calmed.
"Good morning." He replied. "Um, this might sound rude but I still don't know your name."
"Ah, of course, you skipped the first day after all." The girl smiled sweetly at Dio. "My name is Saegusa Mayumi, the current Student Council President but you can call me Mayumi. Once again, it's a pleasure to meet you."
Saegusa, huh…? Dio remembered that name. One of the Ten Master Clan. Hidden ruler of Japan. He thought. The Saegusa clan was not particularly powerful combat wise but they hold massive influence in Japan due to their contribution towards magic and Japan's economy. Her family own one of the largest venture capital in Japan.
"The Student Council President…? I see. So, you must be older than me, right? Should I call you Senpai?" Dio was a bit surprised. The beautiful girl before him was actually the Student Council President. She had a long black curly hair and a beautiful face overall. Dio would say she rivaled Miyuki in beauty. Mayumi just seemed mature compared to Miyuki.
"No, please just call me Mayumi. There is no such suffix in Germany, right?"
"Well, not really."
"Mayumi is fine then. I insist." She winked at Dio.
It was not very effective.
Carla is cuter.
"Okay then, Mayumi it is."
She smiled mischievously. "It's a coincidence to meet you here. Say, Dio, do you always walk to school?"
"Back in Germany? Most of the time. Here? I plan to."
"As expected of a healthy young boy."
What a weird remark. Dio thought. "What about you?"
"To be honest, not really. I just had the urge to walk this morning. That's why our encounter must be fate."
Dio could already guess that Mayumi was the teasing type. She reminded him of Carla. So, he just smiled as usual. This kind of meeting isn't bad. He thought nonchalantly.
"So, how is Japan?" Asked her coyly.
"I'm loving it. I love the quiet atmosphere in this part of the place. I will definitely try the hot spring this week."
"Hmm, hmm." Mayumi nodded her head enthusiastically. "Right? This country feel nice right? We also have some of the most delicious snacks. You should try Traditional Mochi if you have the time. The shop is inside the Shibuya Station."
Dio was intrigued. "If you promote it like that, guess I have no choice but to try."
"Hahaha… you're funny."
"Hehe…"
"By the way, what really happened yesterday?" Perhaps this was Mayumi's aim from the very beginning. So, she asked the question.
"Yesterday? Yesterday when…?"
Mayumi laughed a little. "Oh, you know what I'm talking about, about that time you appeared suddenly in front of Morisaki-kun and twisted his arm." She smiled, facing Dio, her eyes laser-focused on his eyes.
"Oh… That one, huh… Hahaha. I forgot…"
He played dumb.
"Oh, is that so…? Say, are you strong?"
"It depends on your definition of strong."
"Hm, combat magic strong?"
"It depends on the opponent." He smiled.
"Geez… You're really secretive aren't you?"
"It's the truth. I don't think you can evaluate someone on face value. Everyone has their own strength and weakness. You need to give me your criteria of strong for me to answer your question." Mayumi rolled her eyes. "Ah, but I'm good at playing video games."
"I don't need that kind of information…" She whispered. "You must be very good at spirit magic."
"Spirit magic? What made you say that?"
"Your magic score on the entrance test is just below Miyuki, sure but I couldn't detect any magical activities yesterday."
"Good analysis…"
"So, it's true then?"
"Perhaps…" He said, smiling mischievously.
"Ugh…"
Feeling defeated, Mayumi went silent.
"Aren't you the powerful one, Mayumi? I've heard about the Saegusa clan even when I was in Germany."
Dio tried to get some information about her clan.
"No way, I am only good at some particular magic. Even Miyuki beat me in that department. She was the real genius. I was surprised when I first saw her result."
She praised other instead. Dio felt wrong to press his original question. Mayumi herself realized that she was inferior to Miyuki. So, he stopped there. "Is Miyuki really that strong?"
"She is…" Whispered Mayumi. Somehow, she sounded sad, or perhaps disappointed? "Right." Mayumi suddenly remembered something. "I almost forgot. As a participant of overseas student exchanges, you're required to attend at least one club activity or organization. Luckily, club demo is about to start tomorrow. You still have chance to explore your interest." Mayumi was genuinely excited about school activities. No wonder she is the Student President.
"Club activities, huh…? Sounds interesting."
Dio gazed into the distant sky. He suddenly remembered his past life. I used to be a member of the going home club. Back than, I guess I didn't have many friends. I'm not exactly a loner either though.
"Hm?"
The confused Mayumi looked at Dio. He suddenly went silent after all. "Sure, I'll definitely participate."
"Nice! Oh yeah, I've recommended you to be a guest member of the student council. This one is optional, but I suggest you take it to gain some experience."
"Student council? I'm not sure I'm qualified for the job."
"Eh? Why did you say that?"
"Well, I never joined any serious organization before."
"Then, today is a good time to try!"
"I… will think about it." Dio hesitated because he was afraid it would take a lot of his spare time.
"That's great. I mean, you are the second highest scorer on the entrance exam. And… looking at your attitude, you will definitely make a good example for the other."
"… Um, please don't get your expectation to high. I'm not that great." Dio was embarrassed. He did get praised a lot for his talent but never from someone the same age as him except from Carla of course.
"Well—" Just as Mayumi about to teased Dio. "Mayumi, morning!" Yesterday short haired girl called her.
"Mari, morning. Fuh, time flew really fast. I didn't realize we've arrived at school. I guess we can continue our discussion later. I will call you again in the afternoon, okay?"
She blinked her eyes and left for Mari.
For some reason, I feel my friendship point went up.
