NEW STORY!
AU story. Dom is a firefighter. Letty is a teacher. I'm bored and came up with this.
Waking up on one of the most important days of your life….well your best friend's life and almost dying is not what anyone wants. But sadly, Sunday- 1/2/22 was a day Letty would never forget. The day she met the love of her life. But also the biggest pain in her ass.
It all started at 3 am while Letty, her best friend Giselle (the bride), and Giselle's other friend Ramsey (the other bride's maid) were all fast asleep in their AirBnB when all of the fire alarms began going off. Gasping as she was quickly awakened from her sleep, Letty scurried from underneath the thick fluffy duvet to find out what was happening. Both Ramsey and Giselle were opening their door at the same time as Letty.
"What the hell is happening!?" Giselle shouted over the fire alarms. "It's literally 3 am."
"We should probably leave…" Ramsey replied completely dazed. "If there's a real fire we can be in danger."
"No shit Sherlock" Letty murmurs under her breath. "Giselle, let's save the dress and get outside."
Letty walked into the Master suite that Giselle was staying in and grabbed the heavy garment bag and made Ramsey and Giselle follow her out the front door. The beautiful duplex in the heart of Echo Park was completely smoky on one side. Luckily, NOT the side they rented out.
"The fire department needs to hurry!" Giselle whined. "I really don't want any of my things ruined. Han and I have spent so much money on this wedding."
Letty rolled her eyes. As much as she loved Giselle, she couldn't see how her friend could worry about makeup and wedding accessories when someone's home is burning in front of them. Moments later the lights and sirens began to draw closer and Giselle let out of heavy sigh.
As the firefighters rolled onto the scene Letty observed them all. There were two trucks. One with a woman Lietuenent and one with a male. As she listened to them both give their team commands, Letty held Giselle's hand. What ended up being about 30 minutes felt like 30 hours. Giselle didn't even realize that she was holding her breath until the firefighters announced an "All clear!"
The female Lietuenenet escorted Ramsey and Giselle inside to pack up their belongings. Letty shouted "I'm right behind you" as she walked towards the male Lieutenant. "Hi, thank you all so much. Do you know what caused the fire?" Letty questioned.
"The neighbor on the left had a candle burning and said the candle burned curtains and almost made its way over to your side. Everything seemed fine on your end but we do recommend not staying due to the smoke." He stated
"Okay, I should call her fiance and let him know. Thanks again…?"
"Toretto." He stated. "Lieutenant Toretto," he stated proudly. That made Letty smile as she walked towards the duplex. The trio quickly packed their belongings and made their way to Letty's apartment.
"It's almost 5 am, let's try to get some sleep. Ramsey, you can have the guest room. Giselle, you know where my room is. I will take the couch." Letty declared as she unlocked the door.
As the Engine and Truck rolled back to Station 20. He couldn't help but think of the beautiful woman he saw at the duplex fire. Deep soothing voice. Long brown hair. Naturally beautiful. He has seen his fair share of beautiful women in LA- models, dancers, even fellow firefighters- but this woman…
"Yo Lieutenant!" shouted Roman Pearce from across the apparatus floor. "I heard you caught a hot one" Dom simply shook his head and sat down in his favorite chair to relax and debrief after the call. He does this after all calls no matter the outcome. His 24-hour shift was coming to an end. 7 am could not come any quicker. He was ready to go home and sleep in his bed but he knew that was not going to happen anytime soon.
The new firehouse candidate started breakfast once they returned to the station and at 6:30 am on the dot, they all gathered around the table silently praying that they did not receive a call. They made chit-chat about plans for their 48 hours at home as they ate. And as the next shift rolled in, Dominic and his team rolled out.
"Tell little Brian to have a good day for us," Tej shouted before pulling out of the parking lot. Dominic nodded and gave a slight wave to his closest friends. He quickly drove to his sister and brother in laws house where his 6-year-old son Brian spent the night when he was on shift. Dom was eternally grateful for his little sister.
As soon as Dominic opened the front door he could hear his son and nephew running towards him. He crouched down to their level with his arms wide open for hugs. This was their routine. And now is the part where he scolds them from running from the kitchen where Mia is trying to get them to eat breakfast. They all slowly walk to the kitchen for breakfast, smiles all around.
"Dom, how are you?" Mia asked as she passed him a plate. "How was your shift?"
"I'm good Mi. Happy to be home as always. Glad to be home. How was little man?"
"Baby Bri-"
"I'm not a baby!" Little Brian shouted with a mouth full of pancakes.
"Brian did well. He's such a good boy and slept well as always." Mia informed her brother. "Just a reminder, you're taking both boys today since Brian and I are going to his friend's wedding."
Dom simply nodded knowing he owed his sister big.
