Jack stared at her for a long moment. Sarah's expression changed from expectant to worried in a moment. "What happened?"

"Sarah…" Jane started stepping forward.

"You promised that you wouldn't let anyone get hurt." Sarah accused Sarah. "You promised!"

"You don't know what happened." Jack intervened, putting a hand on her back, to try and calm her down.

Sarah shrugged off his hand. "Then Why are you staring at me like I'm not going to like what you have to say." She argued.

"What happened? Did someone die?" Sarah shook her head. "I told you I should have gone."

"No one is dead," Jack said.

Sarah's self-spiral ended and she turned to Jack. "What?"

"No one died," Jack repeated. "As far as we know none of the reapers that were there collected, anyone." Jack turned to Jane and Amelia. "Right?"

Jane and Amelia both nodded incessantly. "Yes," Jane said. "No one at the pole was collected."

"Oh," Sarah said resting on her bed. "Then what's with the doom and gloom?" She asked curiously.

Jack took a deep breath and started telling her, afraid that what he said would send her into another spiral.

And they were right, the moment they told her Will was taken, her face crumpled. "Will?" She said her voice cracking. "But there's a way to get him back?" She asked staring at them. "Right? Are you doing whatever you can to get him back?"

"Of course, we are," Jane said, "It's not in our nature to let people languish in places they don't belong."

"Ok," Sarah said then she noticed the look on Jack's face, it looked worried. "What?" She asked.

Jack hesitated for a long moment. "Nothing you should concern yourself with." He finally said.

Sarah stared at him for a long moment her eyes narrowed into slits then she relaxed and nodded, "Alright" she said then she turned to Amelia and Jane. "I'm hungry." She said.

Jane and Amelia turned to look at each other surprised, before they nodded, "Of course." Jane said,

"We'll find you something to eat," Amelia said.

Then they both turned and left leaving Jack and Sarah alone.

The moment the door closed, she turned to Jack. "Liar." She hissed, kneeling on the bed, and grabbed Jack's face to force him to look at her properly.

Before he could stop her, she spoke again, this time her voice taking on the familiar hypnotic lilt that she hadn't used in years. "Tell me the truth."

Jack's eyes came in and out of focus as he tried to fight the compulsion, but Sarah refused to be deterred. He stood and tried to leave but Sarah just shouted out, "Don't leave me!" before he could even make it two steps.

Jack couldn't move on his own, and he tried. Sarah could see it as he tried to fight her off. But Nicholas wasn't an amateur wizard. He'd taught his daughter well. "I deserve the truth, Jack.

You know I do," she said pouring more belief, and therefore more power into her voice. "Tell me."

But Jack resolutely kept his mouth shut, so Sarah switched tactics. "I want to help." She said softly. "Will is my best friend, don't I deserve the chance to do whatever is necessary to save him?"

"You're a child," Jack said softly. "You shouldn't need to concern yourself with-

"So is Will," Sarah said refusing to be let up. "And you don't actually want to protect me." She said, "I hurt you, I hurt kids."

Jack shook his head. "No." He held his head, "Stop Sarah please."

But Sarah refused to be deterred. "Tell me"

But still, he fought her off trying desperately to not tell her what Sarah wanted to know. His feet were locked in place from Sarah's command to not leave her, it took everything he had to keep his mouth closed so he didn't tell her anything.

"You know I should know." She said gently and softly. "You know. Because deep down, you want to punish me too."

Tears fell down Jack's face. "That's… that's not true." He ground out, even as the words she was saying tried to change his thoughts.

"Will's my friend," Sarah said again, sounding almost soothing. "If there's anything, I can do. Shouldn't I know? Tell me."

The compulsion took hold, and just as Amelia and Jane entered the room, Jack's eyes lost focus completely and he told her what she wanted to know. "Krampus will give Will back, on the condition that you sacrifice yourself." He said.

Amelia and Jane's eyes widened, and they stared at each other, and, before Jack could reveal anything else about the ultimatum Krampus had set grabbed Jack by the arms and dragged him out of the room and shut the door in front of Sarah, leaving her alone.
