Will
Will blinked in the sudden darkness, attempting to see where he was, but it was impossible; there was not a single speck of light anywhere.
Will's hearing, on the other hand, was just fine, could hear Krampus not that far away grunting stepping backwards and forwards, and could smell the sweat that was clinging to him.
Krampus hadn't said anything to Will since he'd dropped him in this dark space. Though given the rocks that were digging into his backside he had to assume that he'd been dropped in some cave somewhere.
"You won't get her," Will said. "Sarah has too many people that care about her."
Will could hear Krampus' pacing being replaced by his laughter, "Oh, is that so? Even after what she did to you and your family three years ago?"
Will glared at him, "I forgave her, most of my family forgave her. What business is it of anyone else?"
Krampus laughed. "Even if she lied to make forgiving her easier?" He said.
"Sarah hasn't lied," Will said. "She has nothing to lie about."
Krampus grinned, "Oh my dear naïve boy." He said. "Your precious Sarah has been lying to you since the moment she was cleansed."
"Yeah, right." Will hissed.
"Really?" Krampus said his voice dripping with malicious glee. "Then tell me, young one. How long was Sarah trapped on that island?"
Will looked in the direction Krampus' voice was coming from in suspicion, but he answered anyway not seeing the harm in giving him information that everyone else he knew. "3 weeks."
Krampus laughed.
"I don't get what's so funny," Will said. "How could she lie about that? That's how long she was gone."
"Oh Will, how can the former leader of your town, be father time and yet you have no understanding that time can be manipulated?"
Will shook his head. "You're lying."
"No. Time moved quicker on that island. She was there for a lot longer than she led you to believe."
Will's eyes widened, secretly thankful that it was too dark for anyone to see his face "How much longer?" Not wanting to believe it. Even if too many things were starting to make sense.
"She was on that island for 3 years."
For a moment Will stared in the direction where he believed Krampus to be in shock and horror. He put his hand to his hands. "That's not true. That's, no, she, wasn't there that long. She couldn't have been."
"Deny it all you want," Krampus said. "You know it makes sense.
Yet the more he thought about the more sense it made, it explained why Sarah had looked older when he saw her again after she'd turned. He'd originally attributed it to the darkness having forcibly aged her, like when Pitch was first turned by the fearlings, and Pitch had grown so big and tall as a result of the fearlings. But to hear, that Sarah had been there far longer than they thought… the evidence had stared him right in the face and he'd ignored it.
Then he glared in the direction Krampus's voice was coming from.
"That was your plan?" Will asked in disgusted disbelief. "Your plan was to tell me that Sarah had this big, huge secret, and the secret was… that she suffered for far longer than we thought?" Will shook his head. "That's not a horrendous secret, that's just horrifying. Of course, she didn't talk about it, I wouldn't want to talk about it."
"You don't feel the least bit betrayed?" Krampus asked. "You and Jackie are supposed to be her best friends. And she told you nothing."
"And that is between, Sarah and I; and Sarah and Jackie. You have no business in punishing a scared person, who is trying to move on from a traumatizing time."
Krampus laughed, "Or is she trying to avoid consequences?"
"I don't know if you're aware." Will said, "But when someone is trying to avoid consequences, they don't necessarily go up to the person who would dish out those consequences and apologize."
"Then why is she hiding now?"
Will rolled his eyes. "There's a difference between walking up to the person you wronged and saying, "I'm sorry" and letting yourself be captured and destroyed by a monster that wants to kill you. She's not suicidal."
For a long while, Krampus said, nothing. Will couldn't see him, but he had the oddest sensation that Krampus was staring holes into him. As though trying to let what Will had just said sink in.
"We shall see." Krampus finally said sounding far too pleased.
