I don't think I ever really clarified how big Azzon's dragon form really is. If you want a comparison, and have seen House of the Dragon, he's the same size- length and height wise- as Caraxes, prince Daemon Targaryan's dragon. A little less serpentine in the neck, and with four legs instead of two, but the same size.
Washington DC
July 4th, 14:00 EST
Cameras flashed as Aquaman, Batman, Flash, and Green Arrow led their proteges down a red carpet. Martian Manhunter nodded politely to them as he greeted the group at the top of the stairs leading into the Inner Sanctum. "Have all four sidekicks ever been in the same place before?" Flash's protégé, Kid Flash, asked excitedly. Speedy, Green Arrow's protégé, opened his mouth to protest being called 'sidekick', when the air shook. Batman halted, along with the other three founding members of the League.
"What was that?" Robin asked cautiously, the other proteges tightening their circle as their mentors scanned the skies. The crowd of civilians had gone quiet, all looking around the area for anything that could have made the sound. "A concussive air wave," Flash said, eyes narrowing as he tensed, hearing the sound again. "Something with wings is coming. Something big."
The sound grew closer, making Batman tense and raise his hand for Robin to act on his signal, when a familiar voice rang out from the sky.
"WAIT!"
A blur of red and gold coming down from the skies had everyone hesitating, and then breathe a sigh of relief when they realized it was Wonder Woman. "Hold your attack! It is merely my own protégé!" Kid Flash raised an eyebrow towards Robin, but the Boy Wonder merely shook his head, equally confused as his other companions. Diana landed elegantly on the ground before Batman then turned and waved to the clouds above, and the crowd screamed in fear as a massive dragon came barreling from the sky, wind shrieking in its wings and it's black and ice blue body reflecting the sunlight like millions of tiny mirrors.
"Impossible…!" Aquaman gasped in, stepping forwards hesitantly, eyes wide with wonder. "That's-!"
Diana nodded, her face showing blatant pride. "Yes, the last and only one left of his kind." Batman scowled, watching the beast as it circled the Hall of Justice, before coming down to land. The ground jumped slightly at its landing, but once it hit the earth, the dragon's form began to contort. The sound akin to grinding bone and sloshing liquid inside a barrel or drum followed, and the dragon went from being several meters high, seven at most, to the height of Kid Flash, adopting a more humanoid appearance.
"Wonder Woman, who is this?" Batman growled. Diana turned and flashed a slight smug look at the Dark Knight before moving to place a hand on the newcomer's shoulder. "This," she said. "Is my adopted son. His alias is Skyking, and he has long since wished to meet the other protégés and work alongsidce the League after hearing the stories I told him." The boy standing beside Diana now still had the wings, horns, hindquarters as legs, tail, and scales of his larger form, but he was much, much smaller now, and more human-looking.
"You never said you had a protégé!" Robin said excitedly, eyeing the newc0mer with interest. "Because, as far as I know, no one asked her," Azzon said, tail flicking cheekily. "It's a pleasure to meet you all, though! I hope we can get along."
"We can discuss this more inside the Inner Sanctum," Green Arrow said, eyeing Skyking in surprise. "But for now, welcome into the fold, I suppose." Everyone ignored Batman's displeased frown- the risk of bringing an unknown into the Inner Sanctum was high, and Batman hated unknowns.
Evidently, some things were left out of the initiation, such as how the Hall of Justice wasn't actually the Justice League's real headquarters, but instead a satellite in space was, or the fact that this wasn't a team that would be going out on missions any time soon. With the immediate flouncing out of Green Arrow's partner, Speedy, and the others seeming only slightly less put out, Azzon didn't really think very well of the other mentors. He had turned to explore the area with his mother when the one calling himself 'Batman' made him pause. "Wonder Woman, a word."
Azzon turned to lightly glare at the black-dressed hero, but Diana gave her son's shoulder a firm squeeze. "Go and get to know your new comrades, son." She murmured. "I'll be fine." But before she could indulge in Batman's need to know everything, a chirp made Azzon's elf-like ears perk, and he looked over when a wall lit up, producing a picture of one of the most prominent founders of the Justice League, Superman.
"Superman to the Hall. There's been an explosion at Project Cadmus." Superman's face was in a frown as he spoke. "It's on fire." Batman switched gears immediately, but not before shooting Wonder Woman a look that said, 'this isn't over'. With the older mentors gathering around the screen, they paid little heed to the proteges behind them.
"I've had suspicions," Batman said lowly, "But this presents a good-."
"Zatara to the Justice League," a second transmission opened, making Azzon tilt his head. 'Everyone has trouble today, it seems.'
After something about water-elementals trying to blot out the sun with an amulet, the Leaguers decided to handle the latter first after Superman confirmed the locals had the Cadmus fire under control.
Diana glanced back at her son and placed a hand on his head, ruffling his hair gently. "Stay here," she said. "Get to know your comrades- and if you feel you are ready, let your warrior's heart guide you." Azzon hugged his mother briefly before she followed the other Leaguers through the door marked League Members Only.
Spreading his wings, Azzon flew upwards to circle at the ceiling, taking stock of everyone before he landed over at the lounging area with the other three remaining protégés. The one calling himself Aqualad stood when he saw the dragon coming towards them. "Well, not that the excitement is over with, I would like to be the first to say that It is an honor to meet an Ancient," the teen bowed deeply. Azzon felt something spark in his memory, an instinct really, and bowed in kind to the Atlantean, partially spreading his wings and circling his tail to bare the fins in a sign of non-hostility. "Pleasure is mine," Azzon replied, smiling crookedly.
"Okay, time out," Kid Flash said, standing and quickly blurring into Azzon's space. "Who are you? I mean, we know Wonder Woman called you her protégé and all, but it doesn't look it to me." Azzon chuffed and tilted his head, squinting merrily. "Well, you are right about that," the dragon prince said. "She's my mother, actually." That grabbed Robin's attention. "I thought Amazonians were… infertile."
Sitting on the plush cushions, Azzon hummed. "Well, they are," he said. "they were crafted from the clay of Olympus and the fires of Hephestus, after all… I'm adopted- my origins as to where I was born are a mystery to me. My mother, and sisters- allegedly, I'm the last dragon, and the only unique one of my kind in sixteen years." and Kid Flash scoffed at the notion- dragons weren't real! "Though, I'm technically a half-breed, my dragon blood will take over my human blood in time." Aqualad furrowed his brow. "I was under the notion that dragons had gone either extinct or they cut themselves off from the rest of the world thousands of years ago…" Azzon's eyes widened minutely before slow blinking at the Atlantean.
"You're… partially correct," the Dragon Prince muttered. The small group fell into silence before Robin broke it.
"Well, you probably already know, but I'm Robin- Boy Wonder, only real normal one out of this band," Azzon chuckled and rocked back and forth, pleased to put at least one name to the colorful triad he was joining. "Yes, and I am Aqualad, an Atlantean." The darkly-skinned and snow-haired teen nodded politely as he introduced himself and Azzon appraised him. the smell of the sea was strong on him, and his hair was a color he had only seen on the old humans he flew over on the way here. Interesting.
"And I'm Kid Flash- my mentor is the fastest man alive, and I replicated his accident to give ne his abilities." Azzon's tail flicked but he nodded politely. "So…" Robin prodded. "Aside from your obvious features, what can you do?"
Azzon sat up straighter his tail flicking as he looked over at the proclaimed Boy Wonder. Robin was watching him with equal attention, an ebony eyebrow raised as he appraised their newest teammate. Azzon smirked. "If you want to know that we'd need a much bigger space than inside this building. I don't want to bring the ceiling down on us."
"You make it sound like you've got super strength," Aqualad said, crossing his arms. "I may not be too knowledgeable with your kind, seeing as the scrolls of Atlantis hold limited knowledge of the dragons, but I don't recall Half-Breeds having enhanced strength like the purebreds." Azzon chuffed, slightly offended. "Well, it's not like I'm expected to know everything about my kind- the most I know has been gotten through a generational memory, if you want to be specific… and only when I'm in dire straits."
"Yeah, okay, now that we've introduced ourselves and got cozy," Kid Flash said, beginning to pace. "Can we talk about how our mentors don't think we're ready?" Aqualad frowned. "I had hoped my king would have trusted me, but I can see that it was a misleading notion to think."
Azzon crossed his arms, tail wrapping around his taloned draconic feet thoughtfully. "I don't think it's that they believe you aren't trustworthy," he said. "nor is it that you're untrained… they operate on a different level than we do. Their years of experience put us to shame- think about it."
Robin turned to glare at Azzon. "How would you know? You've never even been off Themyscira as far as we know!"
The Dragon Prince's eyes sharpened, his oval pupils thinning like an irritated cat's. "That may be," Azzon said sharply. "but the fact of the matter is that they already work as a cohesive unit. They already worry about each other as it is." His ever-shifting hues of emerald switched from one teen to another.
"Putting their protégés on the fields with them, not that you would be an extra burden, but they would be familiar with you in a way that would have them focus more on you than what they needed to be as an instinct to protect their closer companions. While your help would be beneficial, it would also be a distraction in their subconscious concern for your safety."
Aqualad's eyes widened at the logic. It made… surprising sense when one thought of it that way.
"Well, still," Kid Flash said huffily, crossing his arms. "I wanna know what else they aren't trusting us with if they didn't tell us of the headquarters in space."
Robin scoffed. "No… what I'm wondering is why we didn't leave with Speedy."
They fell silent once more before Aqualad broke it.
"What exactly is… Project Cadmus?"
Robin's eyes narrowed, and Azzon flicked his wings, sensing the change in the air. "Dunno…" the Boy Wonder admitted. "But I'll bet I can find out~!"
Tapping at the computer that the Leaguers had used only minutes before, Robin was immediately stonewalled by an Access Denied. He chuckled evilly, muttering lowly under his breath. "Oh, is that so?" he said, popping his knuckles. "Wanna bet~?"
Azzon tilted his head at the sudden change in attitude. "Is he alright?" Kid Flash waved the Dragon off. "Don't worry, this is normal." With a beep, the computer suddenly granted access and Robin instantly opened the file on Cadmus.
"Says here it's just a genetics lab here in DC…" He crossed his arms. "But if Bats says it's not normal, then we should check it out!" Azzon smirked. "You wanna solve their mission before they do? Talk about poetic justice."
Aqualad hummed. "Well, they are named the Justice League… But we were told to stay put." Azzon shrugged, feeling excitement begin to flicker under his scales like his flames. "Well, to be fair, they said to stay put for the Sun mission, not whatever Robin is suggesting." Kid Flash grinned, gripping Robin by the shoulders. "You going after Cadmus?" he asked excitedly. "Cuz if you're going, and Skyking's going, then I'm going!" the three comrades in crime-fighting turned to the oldest, matching grins stretching their faces.
Aqualad sighed, an exasperated, but no less excited smile twitching at the corners of his lips as well. "So just like that? We're going to disobey our mentors and form a team?"
Azzon smirked. "Well, between you guys and me, Wonder Woman gave me the okay to do whatever I think is right, and I say we go after this Cadmus. Planting dragon teeth my tailfins, bet you they're doing it wrong anyways."
The Atlantean huffed. "Very well, then." Glancing at the monitor where the file on Cadmus was still open, he furrowed his brow when he realized wherein DC it was. "But it's on the other side of the city. How will we get there?"
Azzon grinned, draconic teeth sharp and white.
"How are you three with heights?"
