It took nearly 10 minutes for Jackie to stop crying, and another 20 for her to realize that she needed to come up with a plan.
First things first, she needed to find Krampus.
Doing so was going to prove hard, given that it was winter and sending any leaves was impossible since the leaves had fallen and died in the fall.
Still, she'd been able to glean a bit of info to know that Krampus preferred the dark.
It wasn't much but at the very least it gave her a starting point. She looked out the window, and up at the moon, given that he liked the shadow and dark it was unlikely that the Man in the Moon was going to be much help. Else the Guardians would have asked him at the beginning.
He'd originally hidden in a cave in Serbia, but it was unlikely that he would keep using that hideout.
Jackie wondered idly, if getting his attention was easy, or if he would just know when Sarah was back on earth and if that was why he hadn't bothered to give anyone a way to contact him if and when someone was willing to barter for Sarah.
She wasn't about to trade Sarah away. Not by a long shot. But it seemed like a vast oversight unless his powers included hearing his name or sensing Sarah.
Perhaps he was hiding somewhere in Burgess? Jackie thought. She got up off her bed, and nearly kicked something over in the process, she looked down and her eyes widened, she smiled and bent down to pick it up before hiding it in her pocket. Then she turned to her desk and fired up her laptop. It would be easier to take people Sarah cared about if he was still in her room.
"Don't worry, Sarah, Jonathan and William," Jackie said. "This won't last, I'll make sure of it."
The Guardians had their chance, now it was Jackie's turn.
After screaming and yelling for 10 minutes, Sarah finally calmed down.
Had Sarah not been so emotional she would have marvelled at how, despite the rudeness Sarah had exhibited, Jane had not forced Sarah out of her room.
Grims needed sleep, but Jane in an act of kindness had not forced Sarah onto the floor, instead opting to give Sarah the main bed, and instead had a second bed created. (The Grim house can manifest anything so long as it's needed - except food apparently.)
Jane tried to talk as they both got ready for bed, but Sarah refused to talk to her. Instead, she just looked away and buried herself under the covers, closed her eyes and pretended to sleep.
For hours she waited and waited and waited until Jane's tossing and turning had stopped and her breathing evened out. Then once she was sure Jane was asleep, she slowly climbed out of her bed and slowly made her to her mentor's bed.
Jane wasn't stupid. She'd taken her hairclip-disguised scythe off her hair, but hadn't placed it on a bedside table, or the vanity, as she probably usually did. Instead, she'd opted to transform it into a bracelet and then slipped with her hand under her head the bracelet snuggled against her chin.
It would have been hard for anyone to steal it like that, but Sarah had been stealing since she was five years old, and from more difficult places.
Occasionally Jane would toss or turn, and Sarah would freeze up, worried that she was waking up Jane, but Jane just settled down again, and Sarah would relaxed and kept trying.
After about the 5th time Jane moved, Sarah, started to hum to keep Jane relaxed, and asleep as she slowly made her way to the bed. She placed her hand on the bracelet trying very hard not to touch any more skin than she needed to. Never once stopping the hum.
There was no hypnotism or magic in Sarah's voice, just a very deep desire for Jane not to awaken.
Whether it was Magic or just her singing was that relaxing Sarah didn't know, but Sarah kept doing as she did. Finagling her arm so that it was out from under Jane's cheek.
Sarah didn't dare move the arm more than she had to, so once nothing was impeding its removal, she carefully slipped the bracelet off Jane's wrist.
She smiled happily at finally pulling the bracelet off. She stared at Jane, "I'm sorry." Sarah said. "But I can't let anyone else get hurt."
