Gabby looked at Antonio's framed picture of him and Laura and the kids on the beach that summer and wondered if she would ever have a family as beautiful as the one her brother had with Laura. Upon hearing the sound of the door opening, Gabby jumped and turned quickly, but regretted it when she saw Jay accompanied by a blonde with light eyes beside her.
Jay's heart raced faster than normal when he saw her there. How many times had he thought about going after Gabriela and talking to her? How many times has he considered approaching Gabby and asking them to get back together? Now she was there, but Jay knew her presence there had nothing to do with them. He was disappointed by this and angry that he hadn't come sooner and said hello to Gabby.
Gabriela, in turn, felt a lump in her throat when she saw that stranger next to Jay. So he's already forgotten about me, she thought sadly. However, she mentally cursed that she was dwelling on the fact that her ex-boyfriend had shown up with another woman instead of coming to terms with what she had said to Antonio the night before. She took a deep breath, ignoring her traitorous heartbeat, and lifted her head as she looked at Jay and Hailey.
"Sorry if I showed up at the wrong time", Gabby said sounding a little harsh. "I'm waiting for my brother here. He's going to be a little late, but he asked me to wait for him here."
"I understand", Jay whispered looking hypnotized at Gabby, she was more beautiful than he remembered. "You can wait as long as you want here, Gabby. You are part of the district in some way."
"Thank you." Gabby thanked looking away.
Hailey followed the conversation confused and a little unsure. She noticed that Jay was looking at Gabby with longing attention. She wasn't stupid, she knew that something had already happened between the two of them, and she wanted to know what it was and how it had happened.
"Do you work here too?", Hailey engaged in the dialogue a little clumsily.
"Oh no", Gabby quickly denied, forcing a smile. "I'm the sister of one of the detectives here. I came to talk to him, but I think I'd better come later."
"No Gabby", Jay rushed to answer, he didn't want Gabby to leave. "Stay. Antonio must be coming."
"He said it will take a while." Gabby lied, containing her nervousness. "I'll be back later. Excuse me."
She swallowed past Jay and Hailey and closed her eyes when she felt her shoulder bump into Jay's arm.
All Gabby wanted was to go back and wrap herself in her arms, but she couldn't. No more. And now he was with this blonde whose name she didn't even know, she thought bitterly. Ignoring someone calling her name, Gabby exited the station, completely forgetting about the coffee she had ordered for Erin.
"Gabby, here you are..." Erin entered the second floor room and frowned in confusion when she saw that Gabby was gone. "Gabby?"
"She just left." Jay said with anger and annoyance upon realizing that Erin knew Gabby was there. "Erin, why didn't you tell me she was here? I would have come earlier."
Erin glanced at Upton, who was watching the conversation intently. Lindsay didn't know if she should get into personal business there with this woman who didn't know who she was, and also because Voight was almost at the police station.
"Jay, we'll talk later." Erin said ignoring Halstead's frustration. "Voight doesn't like us mixing personal stuff at work."
"It must be very busy here...", Hailey insinuated referring to Gabby. "I'm going to enjoy working here."
"I know why." Erin muttered to herself.
Gabby walked through the common room, waving at her co-workers, and headed to the locker room to pack her bag. She was frustrated and angry, frustrated that Jay was apparently moving on and angry that she was jealous of him when the two of them had already broken up two months ago.
Matt Casey walked into the locker room and leaned against one of the lockers watching Gabriela toss her backpack into her own locker. He suspected that irritation had a name and a last name, and if it was who he thought it was, he would take it upon himself to teach Jay a lesson. Matt couldn't deny that he had feelings for Gabriela for a long time, he appreciated her affection and her friendship, and when the shifts ended, he felt empty for not having Gabby around anymore.
"Are you okay?", Casey crossed his arms looking at Gabby.
"Casey, hello." Gabby smiled weakly.
"Problems at home?", he asked sitting on the bench.
Gabby hesitated. She didn't know if she should talk to Matt about the woman from last night. She knew he would be worried and insist that they go and talk to Antonio. However, Gabriela didn't want to go back to the police station and see Jay with that blonde from a few minutes ago.
"I just didn't sleep well last night", she sighed. "It's not a big deal."
"You've been working a lot at Molly's", Matt said worriedly. "You better rest more in your free time away from the barracks."
"Maybe I should do that", Gabby muttered considering the proposal.
"Great", he smiled satisfied. "I don't want to see you as tired and depressed as you are today."
"Are you my best friend or my lieutenant talking?", Dawson asked playfully.
Matt hid his disappointment at hearing my best friend. He wanted to be more than that for Gabriela, but she seems not to have noticed. Matt wondered if he had stopped thinking about him since Jay came into his life.
"Both", Matt gave a fake smile so as not to show jealousy. "Gabby, you need to rest."
"Work is the only thing that occupies me at the moment", murmured the brunette.
Matt wanted to ask why, but the siren went off, indicating a call. He looked at Gabby as if to say they would continue this conversation later.
"Jay can I ask you something?", Upton asked Halstead.
Jay and Hailey were in the car watching a suspect at an establishment in a tough neighborhood in Chicago. The black car was chosen so as not to cause turmoil and mistrust among the residents there.
"Ask", he took a sip of his coffee.
"Who was that woman that was there today?", she asked bluntly.
Jay sighed knowing he couldn't dodge that question.
"She's... ", Jay was cut off by the sound of gunfire.
The sound of the car windows being broken by the shots was the only thing that could be heard and then everything went dark.
I end this chapter with a cliffhanger and bring up the question of whether Gabby will help Jay on this call or not lol. That question will be answered in the next chapter :).
Well, as you could see, Dawstead's reunion was tense and marked by an awkward atmosphere with Upton present and attentive to the signs that Jay and Gabby showed a lot of contact. Obviously the impression is that Hailey didn't like this, but we'll see how she deals with it in the next chapters.
And dammit! It pained me to write Matt disappointed that Gabby put him in the friend zone, but better days will come for my boy. You can be sure of that :).
Also advancing that the next chapters will have an unexpected and surprising cliffhanger (for some), and maybe shocking too. Be prepared.

@Writersblock2014: I can't wait to read your review! I'm really glad you're following the story. Thanks! No, the blonde is not Hailey. She's part of Jay's past, but she's not Upton. Later on I'll talk more about this mysterious woman xD. The Dawson brothers, best duo 100%. Jay won't get out of Gabby's head anytime soon, that's for sure xD
@Sarrabr4: I wanted some people to disrupt Dawstead in a way so Hailey was introduced before the show for that purpose lol. But yeah, Jay's feelings for Gabby never died. And now they all came back in full force when Jay reunited with Gabby xD
