Luna felt completely at peace as she leaned forward against the balcony railing, her long black curls floating in the night breeze. She loved to look down at the crystal streets, busy even at this time of night, at the citizens of her home planet as they hustled to their destinations.
She was patiently awaiting her father, who often worked late into the night as a guard. He was a reputable soldier, known for his loyalty to the Mautian Assembly, a group of twelve democratically chosen representatives of the planet. Soon she would see him passing below her, his white suit and tie as prim and proper as the moment he first donned it, his long black hair tied into a ponytail. Before entering the complex, he would transform into his resident cat form, ready for the snuggles from Mom and Daughter that would be waiting.
Father was taking a bit longer than usual to get home and the gentle breeze that had once comforted the small girl now chilled her to the bone. A shadow appeared behind her, bouncing off of the white paint of the balcony. She felt a familiar warmth wrap around her, recognized the weight of her mother's shawl as it immediately shielded her from the cold.
"Mother," she asked, her blue eyes wide and worried, "where is father?"
Her mother smiled gently, and lifted the girl into her arms.
"He will be home soon. Let's get ready for bed."
The woman hid the tears in her eyes from her child, ignoring the sudden heat from behind as a star of gold and orange crashed into the distant Assembly Hall, destroying the building completely as it fell.
There had been news of Sailor Galaxia's attacks on nearby planets, talk of her relentless attack and slaughter of those born with sailor crystals. The attack on planet Mau was deemed inevitable. Every thousand years, the goddess Mau bestowed her power upon a child, and this millennia was due for her blessing. A child had been born, the next reincarnation of the goddess Mau, and was assumed to be the next target.
Diana's father had sent her mother an urgent message, confirming the landing of a strange Neko calling herself Sailor Tin Nyanko. The message was for her and Lina's immediate evacuation.
"Do not wait for me, my love. I won't be returning home."
Luna squeezed her mother tight, attempting to turn her head to look behind her. The sudden change in temperature had startled her, as did a sudden flash of white light. Her mother clutched her to her chest, tears streaming down her face, running fu speed as she pressed a small button on the wall in the living room.
A latch underneath their feet opened and Luna could see a glass tunnel below them. The whir of mechanics starting up assaulted her ears, and she held her hands tightly against her head.
The noise immediately elevated her heart rate, causing her to transform into her cat form. Her mother gently cradled her before lowering her into a small space pod that had appeared.
"What's happening?"
Luna now began to hear screams and crashes from all around; her eyes were wide with panic.
Her mother removed her trademark yellow choker and placed it around Luna's furry neck. The yellow bow shone like the moon against Luna's dark fur.
"Beautiful, just like my little girl."
Before Luna could even react a gust of air blew her back and she rolled into a soft cushion. The airtight viewing chamber had closed. Luna's meowing soon turned to gasps, and then silence, as the space pod reached intense speeds, soon catapulting her into darkness.
